Quite saddened by Meatloafs death - which got me thinking. 10:42 - Jan 21 with 10300 viewsLord_Lucan

What death of a so called celebrity which of course you don't and will never know cause you the most anguish.

I'm leaving Her Maj out of this as that's a given.

I'm struggling to separate a top three of Tom Hanks, Martin Clunes and Timothy Spall - although if I'm honest I haven't given this matter a great deal of thought.

I think I will go for Timothy Spall.

Hard to tell because you dont know until it happens. Bobby Robson's death hit me hard although it was clearly coming.

Dunno, maybe someone like David Jason.

I was particularly saddened when Harry Patch died as I have a love for modern history especially WW1. In 2016 I was privileged to see his plague at the site of the battle of Passchendaele.

It's a bit of a rogue one but I was getting ready for a night out at University with a few friends, pre drinking and listening to music in my mates flat in Durham when we found out Paul Hunter had died. Really seemed to hit us at the time, perhaps because of his age and the fact he seemingly had this perfect life. The Beckham of the baize and all that.

I think when young, very talented people like George Michael & Amy Winehouse die prematurely, I find it far sadder than the death of a 95 year old.

I'll miss you if you go before me.

I found the string of stars dying in their 50s unsettling.

There was George Michael, Michael Jackson, Prince et al who seemed to go in a short space of time.

Not to mention Bowie, although he was more like 70 I realise.

These people who have been ever-present throughout one's life disappearing that makes one suddenly feel vulnerable.

Palin, Bob Mortimer, Billy Connolly would be the main ones I’ll be truly upset about.

The last two I felt badly were Terry Jones and Anthony Bourdain. Kitchen confidential is one of my favourite books of all time and his tv shows (along with Palin) really helped discover places I’ve been in both for work and holiday.

I was in Fiji on holiday when Bowie died.

We were going out for dinner and I was trying to download 'Lazarus' on my phone. It had just been released. I hadn't heard the song and couldn't get it to download as the hotel WiFi was sh1t.

We got back from dinner and put on the TV to see the headlines that he'd gone. Then the track downloaded and I heard it ...

I honestly teared up so much that my daughter who was 9 at the time got upset as well.

Bowie had been my youth and it hit me hard. Still can't believe he's gone.

Agreed, loved Kitchen Confidential and his shows Parts Unknown which are all on Netflix, although in certain episodes you can see how his mental struggles played out in reality.

Such a shame, such a complex character but his presenting style was one of the best.

Primo Levi’s death (likely suicide) made me feel physically ill. I don’t really have any heroes like that left.

Larry David will hit hard, right? Especially as he’ll still probably be working.

I thought of both Larry and yourself when someone mentioned mourning for the living - was it the recent series when some guy wanted his funeral when he was still alive?

My memory is completely shot!

In the month of May, in the year 1981, Ipswich Town FC deservedly won the UEFA Cup trophy and as a fan you were in heaven.

Simultaneously, however another hero passed, his name being Bob Marley. The king of Reggae and an avid football player.

Two starkly contrasting events that both have made deep and long lasting impressions.

I saw them play together at Knebworth in 1990, that day is undoubtably the best day of my life and to be quite honest I don't think I have ever fully recovered.

Line up!!

Status Quo
Tears for Fears
Cliff Richard & The Shadows
Dire Straits
Elton John
Eric Clapton
Phil Collins
Genesis
Robert Plant
Jimmy Page
Paul McCartney
Pink Floyd

Not a bad line up tbf! Page and Plant played in the mid 90's with a north african and indian mini orchestra which brought a lot of their old stuff to life in a way the original tours couldn't quite do, like kashmir. There's a very good stage version of 'Hey hey what can i do' on you tube from a US leg.

To be honest I'm not a great Zepplin fan.

I should be but I'm not, same goes for The Doors and Dylan, I have a mental block with them all.

I went to that one. Pissed it down for Floyd, didn't it? They did an excellent set. Car park was chaos.

David Attenborough, *if* he ever goes, will be sad, even my kids (school ages) keep saying how they don't want him to ever die! A real national treasure.

Freddie Mercury got me, a while ago now obviously, and Rick Mayall going was a shock.

Yes, the latest series. Brilliant stuff and probably not far off what people would think about attending that sort of thing.

Mind you, I used to enjoy This is Your Life. That’d be quite a good format to use.

Yes it did absolutely p1ss down during Floyd. It really was a great day though.

Memorable moments.....

The sound was very bad to start with, you could hear sod all - even during Status Quo!

A couple of my mates never really got on that well and at the start said mate Anton p1ssed in a pint pot and threw it on the ground where upon it sort of splashed and deposited a bit of it on other said mate Dave's face.

The queue and trek back from the bar was a nightmare

During McCartney as the sun was going down everyone started throwing polystyrene drink holders in the air and they were flickering in the sky, I thought it was amazing, a real happening - although I had done a lot of acid.

My mate Steve throwing some old farts picnic basket in the air during the above.
