Looks like Prince Andrew has settled out of court.... on 17:34 - Feb 15 by Mullet | The monarchy should be finished shouldn't it? It's abhorrent on every level, the criminality, the obstruction of justice and the implications for a country where the cost of living spirals at a rate far higher than the money being "lost" to the folly of the elites. |
"...the criminality, the obstruction of justice..." I can think of a high profile vacancy that's just come up.

Looks like Prince Andrew has settled out of court.... on 18:01 - Feb 15 with 1229 views | MattinLondon | I’m not a royalist at all and ideally I’d get rid of them all. But in this case it’s a ‘damned if he does, damned if he doesn’t’ sort of situation. Fights the case and wins, a lot of people will still consider him guilty, lose, guilty, settle, guilty. What I object to is trial by media which can only be a bad thing.

The other problem being though of course is that was the only kind of trial he was ever going to get!

Looks like Prince Andrew has settled out of court.... on 16:37 - Feb 15 by ElderGrizzly | Yeah that tiptoes around the issues doesn't it? Almost appears he's trying to reinvent himself as some kind of charitable leader on this topic which is rather difficult to see. |
Witchell is going for the charity angle. FFS I was joking

Dissolve the monarchy? UK would see a decrease in tourism and gain a President, who could be more corrupt. (ex french president was prosecuted end of last year?) Who would this president be, at this current time? Blair/Major or the latest winner of some TV celebrity show. Happy with what we have. Trust her more than the current crop of politicians (all sides.)

The old " but tourism" myth? That's why no one goes to Paris any more eh? As for the rest of your whatifs, it's interesting you pick vague objections. Have no presidents or leaders ever been good in republics then? It's easy to trust someone with little stake in the actual running of the country because of their insulated position. How is the attempt to get ahead of this and jettison Andrew after all these years any better than "the current crop"?

Looks like Prince Andrew has settled out of court.... on 16:34 - Feb 15 by Cotty | The Prince's legal council will have exerted maximum pressure to get this result. The financial risk of going to court and losing would be extremely burdensome for her, most likely ruinous. I think that before making comments like this you need to remind yourself that she was trafficked as a child to have sex with rich and powerful men. |
Rich and powerful men that hung around with Epstein. In unrelated news, Andrew was a rich and powerful man who hung around with Epstein. This leaves a very bitter taste in my mouth, but if she’s happy to settle then that’s her choice. I can’t help feeling this case didn’t get to the bottom of the abuse going on. Which is kind of a shame for abuse victims everywhere. Not that I’d have expected a different outcome.

O think the public has made up their mind about Andrew, despite a claim of 'trial by media'. I would venture that his ex wife has merely confirmed the thought that they are both 'on the make' using royal connections to line their pockets - https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-6920029/Fergies-40million-claim-against https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3603746/The-truth-Andrew-s-15m-house-sa His non job as a UK ambassador for trade was much as with the elongated stuck insect, Rees-Mogg, whose similar levels of competence has seen him recently shunted sideways from the only Parliamentary job he has ever had. I doubt the royal family will be abolished. It will continue to fade into irrelevance, like the Church of England and the non conformists (Methodists/Baptists etc) before them. Turning out for ceremonial occasions, but with nothing but their costumes to justify their purpose - much as with the church. Jug ears will no doubt scale down the family. Take many off the public purse - there's plenty of private money. And so their doings will not warrant so much media interest. But there will merely be another circus along to distract the not too bright 'twas ever thus

It's easy to sit here and judge her isn't it? But ultimately she's done more to break through the wall of cap-doffers, rape apologists and assholes surrounding NeverSweat and the like. What happened to her is awful, if it brings her some closure then ultimately that's a good thing. Hopefully it cracks open enough light to help others push on with bringing these scumbags to book.

His BBC interview told us everything we needed to know, frankly. Hopefully he’ll now at least disappear into the void.

I shouldn't think for a moment Giuffre's content with the outcome, but as said elsewhere, really she needed a serious financial backer or otherwise risked being ruined herself if any ruling didn't go in her favour. Horrible situation where, as usual, money trumps justice.

The world's leading tourist destination for thirty years has been The Republic of France. Heritage and history, and not the existence of a monarch, makes for tourism. (Better weather and better food helps the French too of course)

Looks like Prince Andrew has settled out of court.... on 17:13 - Feb 15 by The_Flashing_Smile | Indeed. Another example of one rule for the rich and powerful, another for everyone else. I'm sure Chickers will be along to tell us we're a heartless mob and Andrew has suffered enough. |
I can't stand any of them tbf. It is the complete antithesis of democracy, it's archaic and represents everything I despise. Why the people still seemingly support the idea of monarchy is a mystery to me. We financially support these parasites whilst ignoring many of those in need. Please don't trot out the old line of all the money that comes into the country through tourists because the Yanks and the Japanese et al would still all come to see their plethora of houses as historical relics of a bygone age even if we abolished the concept. Get rid of them all!

Possible Presidents.... I think Kelly Holmes would be the pick of the bunch, she has such a lovely smile I'm not sure we want all the expense and hassle of elections Could we not just claim that one of these had been selected by God and it was her right to take the Throne After all, that line has worked for various incarnations of Royalty since time began
