I've been to a few away games this season, but last night was my first home game (I coach on Saturdays, so cant make it all the way to Ippo in time, don't judge!)

I was genuinely shocked by the silence in the North Stand lower! Yes I know away games are always much noisier and yes it was a nervy game, but a big crowd in, team are on a roll.... but no noise.

Is that normal?

RIP Sir Bobby

Was very flat last night to be honest, bar a pocket of youngsters trying to gee up the North Stand in the lower Cobbold it was quiet silent.

From within the stand, I thought it was relatively noisy first half but got quieter as it dragged on at 0-0, then annoyed at Cheltenham's gamesmanship late on.

In truth though, there's only pockets of supporters who actually sing, there's a lot in the Lower North who don't much.

Guess thats why I make the extra effort to go to away games, just so much more fun!

The atmosphere can be really good, but usually when were winning. Saturdays was decent, but if were 0-0 or playing badly fans don't seem to gee up the team. Players need fans just as much as we need them.

Does my head in. There's a fella next to me who piped up for Sweet Caroline when they were playing it pre-match, joined in with "Delia's a whore" and "we'll sing what we want" on Saturday, but never sings anything else. A group of lads behind me who never sing and spend the whole game chuntering on about their acca and slagging the players off. That's all right behind the goal.

Loath to criticise the organised groups (Blue Action, Section 6 etc.) who are the only ones who actually make sure there's an atmosphere, but I do wonder if it'd help if they pitched much more simplistic songs to a lower common denominator. Lyrics are hard to catch even 10 seats away from the main singing groups. Been trying to catch and join in with the Morsy song for weeks and still couldn't tell you what the words are! Of the new Edmundson song all I got was "George Edmundson"!

Tuesday night games are rubbish.

Everyone is tanked up on a Saturday, don’t get the time to do it on a Tuesday.

I've actually concluded, and this is not in the slightest a dig at anyone, that while attendances have been great, we very very rarely create a sustained noisy, roaring atmosphere at home games be it Saturday or Tuesday.

There are the inevitable noisy patches like when Cook would run out or when pushing for a late goal but I can't remember any games where we've kept the noise up consistently.

The Blue Action guys do a good job at keeping some perpetual noise going but I just don't think we have enough fans who are keen to sing constantly to create the continual rousing atmosphere that many would like or expect. I have no problem with this as I'm a firm believer that each person should be able to spend the 90 minutes as they wish.

Perhaps if we got even closer to the Play-Offs and into the Play-Offs themselves then more would come out of their shell however for 'mid-season' league games, we just don't have the take-up.

FIrst halfs are generally quite quiet and then can build into a crescendon in second half - probably because we attack that end in second half

Unfortunately our performance mirrored that yesterday - had the halves been swapped round and we played in second half as we did in first then atmosphere would have no doubt been much better

Our section was non-stop for the first half hour. Problem is nobody across the aisle from us ever carries any songs over, they barely break into a clap.

Second half would have been bouncing in there if we’d have got the goal.

"Each person should be able to spend the 90 minutes as they wish" is a weird one to me. Don't we all go to the football because we're desperate to see Ipswich win? Don't we all expect the players to give absolutely everything they have on the pitch for this club?

Don't we, the people who reckon we're all Ipswich till we die, who love the club, have an obligation to do everything we can to help it succeed?

I understand your logic but some people just enjoy watching football and should be able to watch it without the obligation to sing against their will if they're not that way inclined. Simply turning up is a sign of support and everybody claps and cheers goals and claps moments of quality to show their support and I'm sure you'd agree that it wouldn't be fair to exclude people from coming if they don't want to chant.

And of course not everyone is Ipswich 'til they die and bleeds blue etc. just a fan of Ipswich who likes the game.

Need you guys in the middle because there are willing singers in section 4, but they basically sing their own stuff because the noise doesn't carry at all from the left of the goal to the right.

I don't think exclusion is what I'm looking for, just that people should feel an obligation.

We expect these 11 lads to die for the club when we're just another employer to them. We expect them to me more committed than us, to whom the club is supposed to be everything? It's not right for me.

I do know what you mean. I also think being a supporter is more than just constant singing even though it is the most conspicuous sign of support. You go to a place like Anfield where the Liverpool fans live and breathe football but after YNWA rendition pre-game, it is largely flat.

I have full respect for people who want to sing all game, I myself am someone who gets involved regularly when the songs are there but enjoy relaxing into the game and enjoying the footballing aspect too. I guess ultimately people will do what works for them to enjoy their matchday best and we have to respect it and our fanbase for now will need encouragement to be more vocal. Success will bring that but then it's chicken and egg.

The lads in the SAR put the SBR to shame last night. Not for the first time either. What they lack in numbers they make up for with enthusiasm.

Sadly 80% of the seats in the middle section behind the goal have been occupied by people who almost never sing at all.
It has been like that for the last 20 years at least.
I used to be there but finally gave up about 10 years ago and moved to section 6.

We sit right behind the goal, probably around halfway up. The trouble seems to be the two halves of the Lower North are never singing the same thing at the same time.

It's like that middle bit is where songs come to die.

THIS IS DEMOC-RRRRRRR-ACY MANIFEST!

Yeah that’s how I saw last night too.

Far too many passengers in the lower north.

If you’re not in there singing then why are you even there? The view of the game is absolutely terrible.

performance from the North Stand... absolutely terrible.

The Blue Action section kept going, but a small number. But literally all the middle section and all the left were virtually silent, and very inactive.

Its just not good enough.

The players had given the stand enough to fire and there were lifeless. Could have spurred them on.

Very disappointing on such a key night, and could have made a difference.

I was quite impressed by the small section in the SAR upper near the away fans. Not sure I've ever heard noise from there before but their chants towards the Cheltenham fans were audible from my Britannia Block N seat (was with oldies yesterday).

I actually think they out sang the Cheltenham fans, which may not have been hard but I always find it pathetic when away fans can hear the SBR chanting but choose to target the family section of the SAR - it was good to see some given back last night.
