....anyone had any luck with switches etc.

I was mid switch between Green (now Shell) and Avro (now Octopus), I still can't get hold of anyone - Green took 3 DDs they shouldn't have done, Octpus have now stopped taking DDs.

The estimated increase has gone up £2.5k this year, with the monthly payment more than doubling and is now nearly at £400 a month

Why/how on earth do you pay £400 per month?

My bill is £100 a month at the absolute maximum.

EDIT: Also with Shell.

I was paying £160 before, so expecting it to be more than £200 now, but not that much more!

I was with Bulb, and have just moved home. They can not switch me as I am moving from just electric (lpg heating) to gas and electric. So to stay with them j am being treated like a new customer. They are still offering pre cap rise prices as they only have one tariff. It will rise in April for sure but for now they seem like the best option.

400 a month seems well over the top, that's nearly 5k per annum. Much more than the £2.5k you're forecasting

The missus works in the energy industry and that’s the one bill that I don’t take care of. All I know of that our renewal is up today (I think). We were paying £57 a month, so god knows what that’ll go up too … she’s not given me that news yet!

Mine was roughly £45-£50 and is now approx £70 - £75 as it stands.

Live alone in a well-insulated downstairs flat atm. Decent boiler.

I suppose I need to out in an actual reading to see what transpires...

Watch it then jump to £500 and me freaking out

It's not good, if it goes up much more then things like season tickets might have to get cancelled, no chance of holidays given these costs, meals out etc, and the knock on affect will be recession as people just won't be able to afford to go out.

Restaurants will be under huge strain from lack of custom and huge energy costs.

As you can imagine, I'm not overly optimistic for the foreseeable future.

That fills me with dread as fear I’m going to be similar - had lots of issues with energy over years as at one point ran £800 debit even though submitting meter readings regularly as our house is a very energy hungry house

We were with Green and got moved to Shell and our bill is roughly £90/month (£1100 year)

However we will move on to Shells Flexible 7 tariff from April which will see bill go to £130/month or (£1600 year)

Trouble is don't think switching is a possibility at the moment, rates are sky high everywhere.

Think you'd be better off looking at finding ways of reducing your usage than switching anywhere currently.

I was with Igloo and got moved to EonNext

They are currently doing a 2 year fix at the same price as the new cap and you can leave without penalty at anytime.

Very similar to mine. I was paying £104/month but it’s going up to £140/month - Shell Flexible 6 tariff. I was with PurePlanet before Shell took over. To be honest I’m a bit lost at what to do, but I think Martin Lewis is still advising to sit tight and do nothing yet…

So are you fixed or on the std tariff?

From what I understand for the first time in a long time, the std tariff is cheaper at the moment.

I switched to Green on a fixed tariff and they went bust a few days later before I had actually switched. Went back to SSE who then wanted to up my £100 pcm to £200 if I was on a fixed deal.

They were quite good (as I was within 14 days of signing up to Green) so they let me cancel my Green transfer and just carry on the std rate for me it's around £100 pcm which is capped - so am expecting that to get to £150 ish from April.

I didn’t think you were allowed to switch until the new cap had been decided …. I was trying in December but none of the comparison sites were allowing any switches .

There’s nothing that says you can’t switch, you can do so at any time. Comparison sites have just stopped running switching quotes as new fixed tariffs are way more expensive than staying with existing suppliers, even when being moved onto their variable rate

If anyone else on this thread has had a PM from a Broom99 offering to get them a cheaper than standard fixed tariff - I'd be very suspicious.

No posting history to think of (1 post) and he is offering to get you a cheaper deal (that simply is not available) - no doubt at some point you set up a dd and/or hand over bank details.

Will abuse my own post so Phil/Gav can check the poster to see if they are as dodgy as they appear.
