Seems like a good time to commit to legalising Weed… on 15:23 - Feb 28 by monytowbray
Is anyone going to provide evidence for this or are all the bootlickers going to keep up arrowing factually incorrect nonsense?
it all depends on whether you're comparing it to illegally-grown weed or no weed.
in the uk, it's a very high carbon load.
in warmer climes there's a tendency to grow it as a monoculture which is environmentally degrading, then you've got all the carbon costs involved there. there's also the ethics of it taking up land which could be used for feeding people or left to nature.
if you smoke it, it's as dangerous as conventional smoking for your health and the consequent demands on the nhs (though you're unlikely to smoke as much!). then you've got the mental health aspect which is more controversial.
in short, i'd say legalisation is definitely better from a purely capitalist point of view, but no weed (or growing for your own consumption) is better environmentally...

It also has massive medical benefits for pain/anxiety/MH and is backed by medical science (although not 100% in all cases, it's not for everyone but nor are certain SSRIs).
I'm against the prohibition of narcotics. But simplified arguments like this don't help. If it was about medicinal benefits it would be a case of legalising it for NHS prescription, not about making it freely available in a way similar to cigarettes or alcohol.
The act of smoking weed is a health issue, in a similar way to smoking cigarettes.
The science backs it as a health benefit in very specific cases, and is very much a different argument to full legalisation.

Off course Hops, how much you looking for?
I wouldn't have a clue... was just asking, as it would appear to be an Amazon Prime benefit I'm not making the most of. But then again, even if I ordered, it would be wasted on me.

It's complete nonsense, zero truth in it. But 8 people have up arrowed it. Quite impressive
There are many pros and cons for legalising marijuana, it destroying the rain forests definitely isn't one of them, let alone the idea that it has a comparable environmental impact to meat production.
I was born underwater, I dried out in the sun.
I started humping volcanoes baby, when I was too young.

I'm more interested in how cannabis compares to other resources for land/resources, nothing can be done in the world without leaving some kind of footprint, but to claim it's as bad as meat was BOLD. Context is everything. I'd like to know what cannabis growth looks like per metric vs meat or other vegetables/plants. It drills down to that old WHAT ABOUT SOY most anti-vegans make without realising, again, the wider context.
Most data I've seen is in regards to carbon footprints is indoors grows which are gonna be heavier than outdoors, but cannabis is a hardy plant that can grow outdoors in the UK. If it were legal, I'd expect the indoor ratios to change.
Buying small and local will always be better for most things. Weed included.
Health wise I often debate where the Nanny state starts and ends. I don't eat much fast food or junk food. I don't drink. I vape my nicotine these days. Those are all choices that are free and legal to the population.
Is it as bad as the fags though for health? My chest is no where near as bad as it was as a ciggie smoker. I don't expect it to be good for my lungs either, but all data I've seen suggests fags are a lot worse, for instance...

if its grown on an industrial scale then to maximise profit, they will tend towards the high pesticide, high energy, high yield model. if it's legalized to grow for personal consumption only, that'll negate that.
anything you burn and inhale is as bad as each other. however, you're unlikely to inhale as deeply with weed than tobacco and you're unlikely to be on 20-40 a day as you might be with cigs

"no stems no seeds that you don't need, Mato Grosso gold is bad ass weed"
Put aside the environmental and crime issues connected with it. Go and speak to people involved in child protection about the problems associated with heavy cannabis use and the mental health issues thought to be asosiocated with it.

I know alcohol problems first hand too, I’m over two years booze free bar a night in Summer I had 3 Guninesses to instant morning regret and a couple of neat whiskeys in Berlin with a mate for old time’s sake.
Cannabis is no where near in the same ball park for negative effects. Nor does alcohol have any of the redeeming features cannabis does.

What are the redeeming features of cannabis?

Again though, Booze isn’t illegal and the stats are so much worse.
If we are going to live in a free or nanny state, we need consistency IMO.
If alcohol was invented today then it would easily be a Class A drug…but it wasn’t and culturally its been part of society for centuries. Saying that weed (which is harmful) should be legalised due to alcohol being legal is nonsense in my opinion.

I find it very strange that I can drink half a bottle of whiskey which would then probably make me very aggressive yet I'm not allowed to have a smoke which would make me calm. P.s...i don't like whiskey and I don't smoke but you get my point.
All you need to know to understand it is that Cannabis was historically a drug used by Black minorities in the UK. It wasn't long between the Windrush generation's arrival and Cannabis being referenced in "moral panic" articles, often with clear racist overtones.
Opium, on the other hand, was used by the White Upper Class and was legal for years. It was made illegal after being referenced in "moral panic" articles, often with clear racist overtones, in that case against the Chinese community. Of course it was white British merchants who introduced Opium to China...
