Another charming message of solidarity sent to those 09:11 - Mar 3 with 6989 viewsgiant_stow

On zero hour / gig contracts suffering from rising prices, sent from the tube drivers today. To go with their gratefully received message on Tues. And not forgetting their continuing weekend show of support - they're really on the side of the less well off and never miss a chance to show that. Thanks brothers.

Possibly one of the stupidest posts in here in 2022.

Have a go at those standing up against having their wages/conditions cut.

Any wonder folk are suffering when you read such spineless crawling to their 'betters'.

He'll be having a go next, at the Kent dockers who have refused to unload a Russian ship.

“We haven’t proposed any changes to pensions or terms and conditions, and nobody has lost or will lose their jobs because of the proposals we have set out, so this action is completely unnecessary... we’re urging the RMT to talk to us so we can find a resolution to this dispute which has already damaged London’s recovery from the pandemic.” - Andy Lord, TfL’s chief operating officer.

And my point is perhaps they have to strike in order to maintain their positions and those of their colleagues in cleaning back office etc
Whilst I take your point and understand it, alternative transport is always available for the people I think you are talking about who get “hurt”. As another poster says above sadly this is all part of the dance between the RMT and TfL.

Fair enough, I was talking past you, somewhat. Dsiagree on worth of the alternative transport though - say you work in Oxford st in a shop om minimum wage but live in Epping for instance....I wouldn;t fancy that much personally. 2 hours on a bus / £40/£50 in an Uber to go earn 80 quid?

It's not so much a strong union as they have London over a barrel due to people needing to get about. Which is why they do strike over strike over strike.

"master knows best", "it haint for the like if hus to question our betters"

The strike has been brought about by Sadiq Khan going back on his word, made to tube workers working during Covid. It is not about some rightie nonsense (is anything else ?) about overpaid drivers refusing to adapt.

Tube workers have been drawn into the fight between City Hall and the government. With the latter wanting to cut further the funding of TFL. The same approach has been taken with the NHS and university lecturers. With the latter similarly striking over cuts to the pensions.

As with teachers at private girls schools. But this is never mentioned by the Quislings of the right

https://uk.news.yahoo.com/teachers-strike-again-private-school-030000095.html?gu

And it should be remembered that while on strike tube workers do not get paid, so even if they manage to retain what they were going to lose, they would still be out of pocket. However, principle matters. You make an agreement, you stick to it. That's why talks broke down so quickly and TFL are reluctant to engage.

Expect some rightie to condemn Ukrainians for fighting back - they'll join Farage and Trump who already have. And it might be worth taking another look at what rightie Johnson said about Russia's invasion of the Crimea in 2016

It's almost like the people of Britain have been brainwashed into believing that higher taxes will make them poorer. Imagine a country where university education is accessible to everyone or where parents can share a year off work to care for their newborn child.

No comparison really.
As brusque and forthright as he is, Harry drives on the side of decency.
The other character is a moral car crash that drives off without leaving its insurance details, then changes its number plates and denies it was ever at the scene.

I'm not asking for a race to the bottom - I'm asking for those at the top to stick and not twist.

The relevance of people on zero hours contracts is that these strikes directly affect those workers' ability to earn money on a given day.

Understood. Zero hours/gig economy/self-employed rights is a much broader discussion, but yes I can see they would be disproportionately affected by the strike. (All the more reason to have that other discussion about whether we want a society where there’s a large and growing number of people who are working with none of the traditional employment benefits and safeguards. But I digress).

The thing is, you just know higher taxes would make us poorer literally and figuratively. We’d do the higher taxes side of the equation but still cut back funding of the areas that should benefit.

What utter nonsense you spout.

You'll be telling us next that the way in Ukraine has nothing to do with Putin, as he has told you that.

"The Department for Transport, which announced yet another last-minute funding deal for the capital’s transport body last week, is demanding £400 million in savings"

the giff about train drivers objecting to driverless trains has quitlt been dropped by the righties. It is now about pensions and wage cuts, supposedly to wotkers on an average of £56 (Oakshott, Telegraph), whereas it is the cleaners, clerks and other workers who are in the greater munber.

As to talks it is clear you haven't the slighteset knowledhe of ant if these, but have found a quote from someone and are bleating out his words. It si because TfL would not engage in talks that the strike has gone ahead. Talks have to be meaningfu. Not one side simply refusing to engage.

It is the non driving staff who are affected, with further cuts reducing staffing levels at ticket barriers. It can be claimed that no one will be sacked - by jibs will be lost as they are not replaced. Why would someone lose a days pay, if what they were fighting for was not important ?

TfL drop in income derives from the pandemic. Why is the government not covering the shortfall for a very necessary service / There certainly were billions to be had paying for fraudulent PPE contracts.

Unfortunately there are those, as with brexit, who will listen to, and regurgitate lies, because they are told to them by their 'betters'.

No it's because the union want guarantees which TFL understandably can't give.

Why you have to keep equating this with other things like Russia, Brexit and teachers is beyond me. What with that, the litany of typos and calling me a rightie, you sound like you were on the razz last night.

The UK is one of the most heavily taxed nations in the world. University education is accessible to everyone. Parents can share 50 weeks of parental leave after having a baby.
