BOTTLE TOP-GATE on 16:03 - Mar 30 by Skip_Intro | surely it's much easier (and more cost effective) to just fill your pockets with stones and bring them into the ground...or buy a packet of gravel and a couple of big pointy ones from a bloke outside... |
Steady on. We're non league but we're not THAT non league

Lessens the opportunistic risk though doesn’t it although I agree it’s ridiculous as you’re allowed to take those EADT bags in with a bottle of water inside. The missus just keeps a Diet Coke lid in her handbag now anyway. Job done.

Next one of those forums, I'm going to go and ask a question about what the club are planning to do about fans who are asked to stand up when asking questions in forums and repeatedly ignore the request. IT'S A DISGRACE!!

BOTTLE TOP-GATE on 09:59 - Mar 30 by ITFC_Forever | I don’t know why people get so upset at this, the policy has been in place for over twenty years. The reason being that a full bottle thrown with the lid on would weigh more than a bottle thrown with the lid off that loses a proportion of its contents along the way. |
haha it would hardly lose any of its contents, and still do plenty of damage!

BOTTLE TOP-GATE on 10:56 - Mar 30 by Tractor_Buck | Point of order - the other reason the tops are taken off (at least why we do it at Telford) is that a bottle top with a coin in it is a missile with similar properties to somebody throwing a stone. |
I was told by a staff member at a concert venue once that the reason that they don't give you the bottle top is for safety reasons. If a bottle has no lid on it and somebody stands on it, it will just crush. If it has a lid on it, it will roll and could cause somebody to fall or twist an ankle. I don't know if this is true, but it sounded feasible.

BOTTLE TOP-GATE on 13:37 - Mar 30 by Churchman | I agree with this. I don’t know what the world is coming to. You get to go to one of these forums and you have the chance to ask a question to the manager and/or CEO and you ask about water bottle tops. Desperate. 50% of forum time was basically a waste. Fortunately, there was some interesting stuff in the remaining bit. I went to an evening thing with Botham and Lamb some years ago (around the time Pakistan were ripping the sides of cricket balls). What they did for the Q&A was to take the audience questions in written form, filtered out the nonsense and duplicates and arranged them broadly thematically. The name of the person asking the question was read out so IB and AL could answer them to their faces. It worked rather well. |
I remember going to see them at the Regent/Gaumont, was it Beefy and Lamb in a Stew or something like that anyway though Im still waiting for the infamous bottle top (see its still on topic) ball to be released from the safe they talked about after nearly 25 years. and Ive seen that format a few times for Q&A sessions, it works quite well I think, filters the inane questions, though FWIW I think its perfectly reasonable to ask the club why do Town insist on removing bottle tops, I mean remember the time they gave everyone bits of card to hold up pre match, and the game was so tedious they were just continual flurries of paper/card aeroplanes directed at the pitch, so dont give me the you are preventing injuries excuse if you are willing to tool people up with objects they can throw. and as people at the Red Hot Chili Peppers concert at portman road showed its perfectly possible to lob bottles full of liquid at others without lids. Whether its something the manager or CEO necessarily are expected to comment on is another debate. But its the club meets the fans session, if people want better questions, then really the answer is get off the proverbial behind and get down there next time and ask them yourself. Id probably have asked questions around catering and the bars, why havent we sorted out servicing people quickly during halftime & why cant we get our drinks provider to name a few Ipswich Town specific beers, since every other club seems to manage it thesedays (apart from the 81 pilsner I mean). | | | | Login to get fewer ads

The issue with bottle tops is more to do with them being seen as a health and safety hazard. It’s standard practice at venues like the O2. I was told that if stood on they don’t crush, but potentially act as a form of roller which can be dangerous in the event of a mass evacuation. Don’t shoot the messenger, but that’s what a security guard at the O2 told me!

Is that all it was about? I wasn’t paying much attention, but ffs of all the things to moan about. It’s an embarrassment. Some people have nothing to worry about or lack any meaning in their lives.

The goody bag outside the ground, where you can save yourself 50p and gain a bag of crisps and some rolos. Mmmm, rolos.

BOTTLE TOP-GATE on 12:33 - Apr 1 with 322 views | The_Flashing_Smile | I think people are being rather harsh on that chap. It is ridiculous that they take the lid away but you can bring in a bottle with a lid - just where is the common sense there? If you're the sort of person likely to chuck something on the pitch then you'd just bring your own (or chuck a coin). To Swansea - I don't think he lacks any other worries in his life. It was a forum for questions about the club, and it's infuriatingly daft to have your lid taken (so your coke goes flat and/or can spill if you don't drink it all at once. Seems from this thread that people are more annoyed with the question asker than the question asker was actually annoyed by bottle tops. And all of you moaning about daft questions - well why didn't you get down there and ask your erudite and pertinent ones then?
