Have you yourself ever had a year as bad as Paul Cook? 11:33 - May 1 with 5170 views | Illinoisblue | Father dies Sacked by Ipswich Returns to management in non-league, struggling to make playoffs after terrible run of form (losing at Bromley yesterday in front of 1000 fans) Sees his mate and former assistant win L1 title. That’s a heck of a run for anybody to deal with.

Have you yourself ever had a year as bad as Paul Cook? on 13:39 - May 1 by Sharkey | Despite their crap form, Chesterfield could stll land up playing in the National League play-off final, quite possibly against Stockport, who looked to be cantering to the title a few weeks ago. Whoever the final is between, it's going to be at West Ham's ground. So Mr Cook's torrid year could still finish wih a very very big day out. |
In the non league paper he was moaning about them being too soft
Have you yourself ever had a year as bad as Paul Cook? on 18:31 - May 1 with 868 views | JammyDodgerrr | He's been dealt a bad hand at Chesterfield, to be fair to him. Two best players get season ending injuries in the game before he started(one of them is still the top scorer in the league despite being out for months) and just not worked. Like here, he should be doing better but you'd imagine he'd get them up next year, especially if Wrexham win the league as it's looking like they will and that's the biggest team out of there.

Yeah. Really weird take to think otherwise. Given how dreadful he was, Cook has had possibly the best treatment of any recent managers. Not sure he had any of the personal venom others did which makes a nice change.

Have you yourself ever had a year as bad as Paul Cook? on 11:41 - May 1 by Cheltenham_Blue | The thing is, he seems like a really nice guy, but it looks like his career might be done. He must rue the day that he came here but couldn't persuade Richardson to come with him. Could have been all so different if he did, and he'd still be one of the most sought after managers at this level. |

Have you yourself ever had a year as bad as Paul Cook? on 13:36 - May 1 by Ryorry | Perhaps you don't appreiate how your headline (without opening the post) reads on the forum front page at first glance, ie - "Have you yourself ever had a year as bad as Paul Cook? 11:33 - May 1 with 819 views Illinoisblue Father dies". It's the first thing you mention - and in a year when many have lost loved ones as a result of the pandemic on top of all the more usual causes. |
That’s a fair point of judging only on the preview text; then it would seem a rather heartless post. But again, absolutely not the intention. It was a post sympathetic to Cook.

Have you yourself ever had a year as bad as Paul Cook? on 18:14 - May 1 by WicklowBlue | Reading this thread, makes it seem like ChateauWines is J2's alter ego... I didn't take the OP as distatesful more cognisant of the thought year PC has had. Wish him all the best and that he goes on to be successful once not against ourselves. Being a Manager must be a 247 role with zero job security, can have real success over a season or two and then confined to the bin within a few months. |
What an odd thing to post.

I'm not sure why folk have their backs up, tbh, Illy. You were just dispassionately listing events in Cook's recent life. There's no malice in it. Just a simple set of facts, and his dad's death will have been one of the more significant ones. An awful thing to happen for anyone. It must have effected his performance and absolutely have sympathy with him, so it has to be mentioned even if a little sensitive. But anyways as you're being given a kicking I'll give you one too :D

Yeah this thread didn’t exactly go the way I thought it was going to go! Who would have thought that a simple “hey, Cook had a really s5it year, how about you” would have been so wildly misconstrued. I shall from this day forward include a note on all posts saying I hope Chesterfield get promoted.

No, stick to your guns. People seem to be forgetting just how much the feel good factor that we started this season with had drained away under Cook's management. Professionally, he's stunk the place out at both ourselves and Chesterfield. All the complaints he made about BOTH ITFC squads that he worked with are getting repeated at Chesterfield. It's becoming clearer and clearer that as far as Cook is concerned, No Richardson, no clue. [Post edited 2 May 2022 0:10]

Have you yourself ever had a year as bad as Paul Cook? on 08:39 - May 2 with 579 views | Hipsterectomy | Chesterfield play Stockport today who are top, if they lose that Chesterfield may be 1 point above dropping out of the play offs. I assume he went there as a favour and saw it as another guaranteed promotion to get on his CV. He did say he was finally enjoying football again after joining them, but probably not so much now.

Good point. All discussions of bad things must be stopped until all the other bad things have stopped.
