Even the word 'curry' is Tamil. Open and shut case really, isn't it?

After all, who prefers an Indian duck in hoisin sauce, or an Italian steak and kidney pudding?

I love them both and the old Peking duck is food of the gods but it has to be Indian. Thai food, Malaysian curries, Japanese curry, different types of Indian ……love it all. One of the big changes for the better in my lifetime has been the chance to enjoy different foods. Bring it on!

Thai /Malay /Indonesia all do wonderful curries. Really miss being able to cook them as my kids are too small to eat them.

OK, we all know the OP is wrong, Indian is far superior to Chinese as far as curry is concerned.

But what's happened to sweet and sour sauce from a Chinese? Unless it's just around here, it's turned into some god-awful orange liquid sugar, absolutely revolting. It's got to the point that if I get sweet and sour chicken/pork/prawn balls from a takeaway, I'll buy a jar from a supermarket and have that instead and just throw the takeaway sauce away.

(and before anyone says anything, I know I should just make the sauce at home, it's not hard)

Just goo isn't it and certainly doesn't resemble food let alone anything remotely Chinese.

I have an old Ken Hom book from before his days of TV, (it has things like pig's trotters recipes - the sort of stuff we don't tend to cook at home), and it includes an insult aimed at the gloop you speak of.

Much of the recipes are very simple stuff and one is an easy sweet and sour sauce made with fresh oranges, vinegar, bit of sugar etc. I use that from time to time and it works just fine with pork or chicken.

Indian. There is so much choice of curries - madras, jalfrezi, tikka masala, etc. Chinese dont really do curry, and if you get curried chicken or whaterver it just looks like its been covered in baby poo.
