political expediency is a big part of it. if people were aligned with him over their opposition to the US and the west, then he choose not to look too far beyond that. for him those were the issues which dominated his political life - the domestic stuff have always been secondary. but it goes deeper than that. all his political life has been spent amongst groups where anti-semitism is culturally engrained to the extent that they just don't see it any more. that 'internationalist' branch of the far left go right the way back the early C20th and are entirely bought into the jewish conspiracy stuff.

“all his political life has been spent amongst groups where anti-semitism is culturally engrained to the extent that they just don't see it any more.“

Feck me, you’re a smeary liar. You’re smearing groups with probably more Jewish members as a percentage than in the general population. Certainly in the UK and US.

Gmpf.

It’s your last post on the subject because we both know you can’t back that accusation up. Even now you’re scrabbling around for other stuff to conflate it with.

He wasn’t booted out of the party and not for his “enablement or incompetence allowing racism and bigotry to fester” because that’s a load of nonsense. If it were true he would have been booted out and rightly.

I didn’t say he was booted out for that - I said that’s what led to the EHRC investigation. You’ve conflated two different sentences. Apologies if I was unclear- the double-down comment was in relation to his downplaying peoples experience of racism.

If you are so blindly tribal that you cannot accept an independent investigation which found serious failings, then there is no point me engaging.

It goes back further than the early 20th century. The post-Hegelian conception of far left 'Internationalist' thinkers, philosophers, economists and political activists, including Marx, Engels, Bakunin et al was completely awash with anti-Semitism. There are innumerable quotes attributed to Marx, as well as things he wrote directly, which are to our eyes abhorrently anti-Semitic. And, often, people use this as a kind of stick with which to beat modern leftist thinkers.

But it is..
A) Important to recognise the pervasiveness of anti-Semitism across most of Western pre-industrial society at that time (this doesn't excuse it, but it does help to explain it); and
B) Totally unfair to equate contemporary far left groups with that type of rampant anti-Semitism just because the origins of such groups were embroiled in that sort of conspiratorial thinking. To say they are 'entirely bought into the Jewish conspiracy stuff' is a misappropriation and, to be fear to DK, rightfully called out as a smear.

Do some modern neo-Marxists and those on the far left (even of the Labour party) believe in nonsense about a Jewish conspiracy? Yes. Is it pervasive? No. Should it be rooted out? Yes, damn right.

(Yeah, I'm back for a bit)

One of “his major failings” according to the EHRC was getting involved to expedite cases because the Party apparatus wasn’t doing its job.

The EHRC findings don’t say what you alleged at all. There was a process problem (most probably down to factional obstruction internally and bad faith actors trying to flood the complaints process) that even the EHRC recognised improved when Corbyn got rid of the General Secretary he inherited, Iain McNicol, and when certain HQ staff then had to answer to Jennie Formby instead.

Anyhoo ... returning to the point. The reason your and others’ blithe accusations haven’t resulted in Corbyn being thrown out of the Labour party is because they’re essentially not true.

You know that circle can’t be squared. Let’s stop kidding ourselves.

The Labour leaks document seem pretty clear on that. Most of it primary evidence. That’s why the Forde Report is particularly slow coming out. 2 years late and counting ...

I’ll forgive you if you just don’t know any of this and have been following the issue from afar over the past 6 years or so. But if you do know this and are still pushing your narrative, then you’re a smear merchant yourself.

Or you could stop ducking the question.

Why hasn’t Corbyn been thrown out of the Labour Party given your long list of serious allegations? And if you believe he should be, why are you and the other loons now silent about the Labour Party’s handling of antisemitism?

Here’s my theory. Feel free to correct any of it.

Because you know it was a smear campaign and a scam. And the whole thing comes crashing down if you pursue it.

"Why hasn’t Corbyn been thrown out of the Labour Party"

I'll have a crack at this: because if he was, the labour left would sh1t a brick and go to war with the right. ...Just when we need a bit of unity to get rid of the worse government of all time. Pragmatism again - I know you hate it, but it's the only way out.

Is that smears?

It’s not my “narrative”, I have no skin in the game, I didn’t want this govt any more than you. But that sort of toxic culture was not something I was willing to enable.

Pre-2018 there was certainly a case. The complaints process was shocking and heads should have rolled.

I never saw any acceptance of antisemitism from the leadership. Certainly nothing like ullaa just showed – and you by upvoting him. Awful stuff.

Whether Corbyn is a hard core jew hating racist seems to be a matter of opinion, rather than fact, hence the choice. I can see why he's got Corbyn as 'out' as he can, but no further. Also, if Corbyn were to stand as an independent and having a good name locally, i can see him winning against a labour candidate.

Nonsense. There's no way they could possibly keep him in the party if there was some actual evidence of antisemitism, regardless of what the left might think. If there were, and they didn't get rid of him, the Labour Party would lose all credibility.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

I don't think the investigation was into Corbyn personally was it? Genuine question - my memory is addled...

I think we all have to take a view over what Corbyn's beliefs are. My own angle is that if he sees a person as part of his group, he's a good local ally (I've seen the way he support local Islington community organisations first hand).
