Keeping cool tips 15:03 - Jul 12 with 2542 views | unbelievablue | I live in a 6th floor (top floor) flat which faces east and north. Gets so much sun. I am melting. Fans running constantly, windows and doors open. Any tips and tricks?

Keeping cool tips on 15:41 - Jul 12 by unbelievablue | The industrial heartlands of the Thames Estuary, unfortunately. That said, I can see Canary Wharf and Stratford from the balcony, and the Thames is less than 1km due north, so I can watch the ships go by. Looks nice at night. |
There we go - seeing the ships is good!

Keeping cool tips on 15:41 - Jul 12 by giant_stow | We're spoilt by our temperate climate and therefore very delicate. |
It was only last week that I realised that I have two radiators stuck on at work. I've had to completely turn the boiler off.

Keeping cool tips on 15:37 - Jul 12 by unbelievablue | Makes sense, but we get the rising sun directly at all of our main rooms through multiple windows (some of which are wall to ceiling), and it seems to heat the hell up damn quickly, like a greenhouse. Sigh. |
Seriously speaking, you do actually sound in a very similar position to us. Big windows that get sun for most of the day, and no blinds or curtains. We got something similar to these, which we use for a couple of weeks every year when it gets silly temperature wise, oh and if people come to stay (they rarely do) Go onto the windows with suckers, it doesn't stop all the heat but definitely helps, and after a week when we're back to our normal 20C we just take 'em down, fold 'em up and pack them away. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Tommee-Tippee-Anywhere-Blackout-Blind/dp/B08BD8YCC7/ref

Keeping cool tips on 15:27 - Jul 12 by bluelagos | Cold shower. To quickly cool off, blast of cold water on back of neck. Socks in fridge before bed. Ice lollies not ice cream. Windows closed if air outside is hot, open if cooler outside. [Post edited 12 Jul 2022 15:32]

I wouldn't go with socks in bed in this weather!
| Trust the process. Trust Phil. |

It’s no wonder is so hot: I’m fortunate I get a bit of air movement through my flat which definitely helps on evenings like today.

They're good, trust me, as long as they're in the fridge with your feet inside them.

Keeping cool tips on 15:38 - Jul 12 by Lord_Lucan | I love the way Brits can't wait to get abroad for a fortnight in the blazing sun but moan, moan, moan when it gets hot over here. Brits are afraid of heat. They also moan that it's cold in the winter. |
You should have seen him in Miami the other year.
Keeping cool tips on 01:08 - Jul 13 with 510 views | wkj | 3 years ago I got a portable AC unit. This is probably the worst way of air conditioning (Swamp coolers aren't ACs) but it is a life saver when it gets too much.

Keeping cool tips on 04:06 - Jul 13 with 490 views | Chondzoresk | Get a couple of large thin cotton sheets, dampen them down, put into freezer. Then when you go to bed, you will have a brilliant frozen damp covers. Only lasts for 30 mins, but works treat.
Keeping cool tips on 07:04 - Jul 13 with 455 views | Pinewoodblue | Have heat reflective film applied to windows

Keeping cool tips on 15:10 - Jul 12 by Mookamoo | Put a glass of ice in front the fans. Keep your curtains shut. |
Ice should go behind the fan so the cold air gets drawn through the fan

Partly my lack of general fitness isn't helping. I went for a job at 6.30 this morning though and it was cooler outside than in the flat.

Keeping cool tips on 07:48 - Jul 13 with 428 views | Churchman | From his navy days in WW2 my father in law always swore by curtains or blinds against direct sun. Not much use if you don’t have any, of course, but it does actually work to an extent, but as was pointed out in another thread, we are just not geared towards weather extremes in this country. As an aside, watch out for pets. My two young cats came in at lunchtime panting like grand national losers and were very very hot. So they were shut in for the rest of the day with plenty of water available. It was actually cooler in the house than outside in the afternoon and they were all the happier for it.

Keeping cool tips on 10:35 - Jul 13 with 381 views | ElephantintheRoom | In countries where they think 40 degrees is pleasantly warm - France for instance, they tend to use shutters to prevent the house heating up - and open them when the outside sir is cooler than the inside - at night and early in the morning I doubt you have shutters. But you might have curtains. A fan will just move warm air around
