For the sake of (not having an) argument... 14:00 - Jul 14 with 2730 viewsOriginalMarkyP

Let's say that there are no more ins this window. And then Pigott goes.

Where do you reckon this squad will finish in League One?

I'd say 6th.

It depends.

In order to determine where we finish you need to post all the other ins and outs at all the other League One clubs, so we can decide who we will finish above and below.

I imagine you have that sort of time on your hands.

2nd

It's not even about the quality for me. We seem to have the same sort of team spirit we had under Burley. That in itself will help us win games.

However. I hope we've done some set piece practice. If we haven't. Then take my 2nd and change it to 9th as you have to score set prices at this level. No question.

Yes. Clearly, if you were going to do a computer modelled style prediction. I mean more your gut feeling.

I mean that's a big improvement on last season. I'd take it right now if you offered it to me.

18th, with 46 points and no goals scored.

I'd say higher than that. Not unreasonable to look at top two.

We still have the defence in place which, under McKenna, was by a reasonable margin the tightest in the division.

We were mid-table when it came to goals scored, but it wouldn't take a lot of improvement to boost that and start turning draws into wins. Perhaps some better corners, for example. Or greater willingness to shoot from the edge of the box.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

7th, level on points but 1 less on goal difference, due to conceding in the 7th minute of added on time in the last game of the season.

It's the ITFC way.

Think second ur all dreaming if piggott leaves we need a good striker not 7 or 8 a season a injury to Ladapo and we are down the river without a paddle

Gut feeling would be that we finish 7th but maybe sneak into 6th as it stands. Slight improvements in CM and ST but we’ve lost our most creative player in a team that doesn’t score goals. Didn’t see much change from last season in the West Ham friendly to make me think we’ve fixed our issues in the 2/3 weeks training so far.

Of course still plenty of time left in the window and pre-season for this to change come Bolton.

I think as it stands we have one of the 4 best squads in the division, along with Sheffield Wednesday, Peterborough and Bolton.

Where you finish after that is part personnel, part how you work as a unit, part luck.

Honestly believe this will come down to the GD column

We'll keep a good number of clean sheets I'm sure of that and I'm sure we'll have someone else coming in (at least one) with goals behind them

There is also going to be a player we didn't expect to bag a few more than expected for sure .Did we expect Burns to create and score as many as he did ?

Ladapo could easily hit 20+ in this league

Let's all chill a little and worry when the window has closed

Top 6 for sure

I think we need another striker and another attacking midfielder.

So 6th, with a decent defensive record but not enough goals.

A lot of 6th/7ths been posted but not sure I see 6 better squads out there as it stands. Of those that finished above us/got relegated, can't say that Barnsley, Derby, Oxford, Wycombe, MK Dons, Portsmouth and Plymouth look especially terrifying.

I do wonder if we're just projecting from our worries about our squad, without thinking about our relative strengths.

I still think we had the 2nd best squad last season and we finished 11th. Obviously we don’t have some issues going into this season as last but that doesn’t mean we’ll do well based on squad strength alone.

I think we have a better squad than 6/7th but still not convinced we have what it takes to consistently win games of football as it stands.

I think the first 5 games will show us if we have learnt anything.

We need to find a way to beat the sit deep teams and we need to use set pieces to our advantage. We also need to score more goals from outside the box.

In the opening fixtures. There's opportunity to see if Amy if those weaknesses have been resolved.

Our first away game will be the prime example imo.

What is there to judge things off if not squad strength? How do these other teams going to consistently win games of football with worse players?
