A). JC appears with some horrible people - JC is an awful person.
B). Butcher appears with a horrible person - We shouldn't crucify people for who they appear with.

maybe you didn't read the bit that said "at the expense of everything else you know about them"? with corbyn, a leader of a political party and a politician of 40 years standing, who he met confirmed everything else we knew about him. you need to read the whole sentence including the bits between commas.
And so as the loose-bowelled pigeon of time swoops low over the unsuspecting tourist of destiny, and the flatulent skunk of fate wanders into the air-conditioning system of eternity, I notice it's the end of the show

No. What was already known about Corbyn was made into a connect the dots for people to project the worst possible narrative against him.
Before 2015 he was what he’s always been: a campaigning MP who fights for peace and justice. But it wasn’t until he was going to upset the apple cart that the accusations came. People just didn’t want him messing up the status qui and the comfy little establishment politics they’d created for themselves.
And as we saw they lied, cheated and stole to build and push that narrative.
I mean, if we were being honest ….

nonsense. everyone who knew anything about him prior to 2015 knew exactly what he was. he was a joke mp who had done nothing, achieved nothing, and spent his time wallowing in the gutter of hard left nuttiness outside parliament. with 'fighting for peace and justice' you're the one re-writing his history. he was known as a joke - he only stood as the left's leadership candidate because abbott had done it once, didn't want to do it again, and no one thought they stood the slightest chance. he was the space filler of last resort. prior to 2015 there was also no dispute that he was far from the sharpest knife in the block. you wouldn't know honest if you tripped over it.

Hard-left nuttiness is what is known as the social democracy which existed in this country until 1979, and which exists these days in most advanced Western European countries. It involves public services (including utilities such as rail, energy and water) being run for the public good. Sadly, Corbyn wasn't a particularly good salesman but he was savaged by all sides (including his own) all of whom are in thrall to the neo-liberalism in this country which has led to every public service (including the legal system) crumbling and beyond repair. As the Jam said "the public gets what the public wants".

Hard left nuttiness is Corbyns foreign policy, where everything anti US and anti the UK is seen as the right side of the argument, even when it means siding with Russia as though they are some old communist nation opposed to an imperialist super power, ditto China.

A bit weird sums up quite a few individuals on this board.
I hope they never hear anything about Sir Bobby or Sir Alf that they find "upsetting" or the statues will be in the Orwell before you can shout overreaction.
That's some take on Robson and Ramsey!
You seem not to realise the statues that were torn down were of philanthropists who MADE THEIR FORTUNES FROM SLAVE TRADING! They weren't people who did an unpleasant thing once. The reason they were celebrated was because of what they had done with the money they made from exploiting black people.
I am unsure whether you choose to misrepresent this or you are simply unaware of it.

Would this be the same Peter Oborne, who called Corbyn's Labour "a party of Momentum, anti-Semites and Marxists" & called him "unfit for public office" & "unworthy to be an MP"?
The same Peter Oborne who is an apologist for Assad gassing his own people?

Or was that a different Peter Oborne?

I am not sure what that has got to do with the substance of the article, but I think you will find that Oborne has changed in recent years from being a journalist who slavishly follows the establishment line. As regards your second sentence, I am not sure what the basis is for what you say, but it seems to me a smear, and I am sure that whatever he may have said there is some nuance to it. But it looks like Oborne, like Corbyn, is now fair game for the type of smears which clouds the truth given he is no longer toeing the establishment line. Sadly, it's a case of playing the man not the ball.

I disagree. Campaigning politics works at a certain level, and we always need people like that. But it doesn’t work at head of state and international level where politics becomes the art of the possible and necessary compromise to get the best deal for everyone. I don’t think JC could do that.

Where has Oborne been smeared?
Did he write the words about Corbyn that I linked? Is he an apologist for Assad gassing his own people.
And how the fook did this thread turn into being about Corbyn?

I don't know if he did write them, but if he did, I explained that he has changed his view in the last year or so. This largely because he has come to realise just how corrupt the media and the establishment are. Saying someone is an apologist for Assad without evidence seems to me to be a smear. I didn't start talking about Corbyn but responded to what someone said about him. It's funny in some ways that this thread should really belong in the general section but the link to Terry Butcher I suppose just about justifies its inclusion in the football section. And I can never resist a political argument when I see something I don't agree with, which is probably why I don't generally look at the general section.

Without seeing the original article, it's very difficult for me to comment. But as you might say, how the fook did this thread turn into being about Oborne?

Terry Butcher is an Ipswich legend full stop! How some of you lot are turning that into party politics is beyond me. Legend if you didn’t quite catch the word.
