A bit weird sums up quite a few individuals on this board.

I hope they never hear anything about Sir Bobby or Sir Alf that they find "upsetting" or the statues will be in the Orwell before you can shout overreaction.

Who had an actual excuse and reason for speaking to these people.

Stokie's spot on. And as usual your subjective and self-interested standards are showing.

The excuse and reason was to push any cause against the West no matter who the messenger

And self interested? From the middle class liberal elite who spends his whole time talking down the only alternative to a dreadful Tory Govt and happy to do anything to keep them in power with ‘But Labour’

I was self interested enough to hold my nose and vote for Corbyn, and not spend all my life bad naming him. You are happy enough because you’ll be alright

so a poster puts up g.b. video of the butch and farage. the first few posts are about how will the lefties react to this. a few then reply to the question ,that they not going to watch it. no one slags the butch by disowning him calling him a traitor etc. so to say look at the state of this thread etc is nonsense. its a irony that people are getting upset over mild criticism . i thought that was the lefties position according to some.

Like every other English footballer from the 70s 80s and early 90s.

Absurd assertion.

I don’t care who Terry Butcher talks to or hangs around with.
I don’t like Nigel Farage.
So what?

People who respect Butcher don't like to see him tarnished by sharing a platform of any sort with a piece of sh1t like Farage I suppose.

It's not complicated.

It doesn't have to become a cheap point-scoring contest which a few have tried to do with their deliberate misinterpretations of the general reaction, as is their wont etc.

"The excuse and reason was to push any cause against the West no matter who the messenger"

I'll stop you right there. That's just made up and a smear, and you either know it or you're ignorant. It's certainly a fool's narrative when compared to the actual reality of fighting injustice and looking for peace around the world. Give me one cause that was about attacking the West and not about peace/justice on its own terms?

On a side note, anyone remotely serious knows that the West is part of the problem and part of the solution for a full range of global issues. Unless you're unable to drop the narrative and see the world as it is.

1. TB turns out to be a right-winger (in the political sense) and therefore holds views that I don't. I'm disappointed in that but it happens.
2. It doesn't devalue him as a legendary footballer who was very good at what he did, just like, say, Peter Shilton.
3. I despise Farage and his ilk but still respect other people's differing views.

I won't watch it because I don't want to see or hear NF (ahaha) on my TV any more than can be helped but I won't be putting Butcher on my sh!t list any time soon.

Fair enough. What surprises me is the self righteous attitude which would lead someone to the conclusion that Butcher’s reputation is now tarnished. Looking down their noses at him and shaking their heads in disgust……..

What surprises me is that people have got their briefs in a tangle about people being a little disappointed with TB.

I'd be disappointed with anyone propping up the scummy garbage of Farage and GB News. But as I said in my first post he's still an ITFC legend.

What’s the point? It’s just a waste of a sunny day.

I’ll continue to support and vote for the only alternative to the Tories as I did under Corbyn; and you can continue to spend all your time saying they are all as bad as each other and enabling the Tories as an absolute gift to them

Wrong in your eyes. He got interviewed by Farage about his footballing past as far as I can see. I dont think they discussed imprisoning immigrants and a mutual admiration for Donald Trump.

This,,, What a sad bunch you are you always think you have the moral high ground and if anyone dares to disagree you revert to childish name calling., have you forgotten this is a football forum? Terry Butcher is a legend and always will be, he bled for this club. If any of you righteous Lefties want to make yet another political point just do one and go and do it on the guardians or BBC sites.I repeat this is a football forum and Terry talked football. I suggest you go away and give your haloes a good polish!

State of this thread - the last 3 words on the bit under the picture of TB tell you all you need to know ‘Ipswich Town Legend’

Great guy too, as evidenced by his most recent spell here and his time on Life’s a Pitch and those who have had the fortune to meet him

I couldn’t give a shiny shíte that he has sat down with Farage.

Precisely this.

I just don't care. If that makes me a cock then so be it.

This thread has all the usual classics. Anyone who votes Tory is less educated, is brain damaged etc. Attitudes which only entrench those who they wish to 'correct'.

Of course that will never be admitted and re-posting something about real concerns for the 126th time will be seen as a better response.

Truly impaired.

Last I checked Butcher was an ex footballer rather than being the (thankfully former) leader of a major political party.

And I dont recall ITFC being being found guilty by the EHRC for racial discrimination when TB was our leader on the pitch.
