a Championship team with aspirations to go up this season sack their manager. When they do, McKenna is going to be near the top of their list.

When was the last time we had a manager linked to jobs at a higher level? Sir Bobby? I don’t remember ever thinking that Burley might leave to further his career.

Only 34 months until Lambert’s contract expires.

😂
Re the OP - KM is highly intelligent, I'm sure he'll have worked out that there'd be few bigger feathers in any manager's cap than taking a club which has been languishing in mid-table L1 for the past two seasons, into the Prem.

So I don't think he'll be going anywhere for at least 2 seasons after this unless he & Gamechanger have a massive falling out, which I'd say is unlikely.

Fingers crossed.

There were enquiries for McK in the summer.... Ashton soon told them where to go.

I'd have thought he'll need to have achieved more (and will want to) before really interesting clubs come sniffing.

I suspect the real tempting offers would come if we were promoted. Which will be a nice problem to have.

At the moment all he's doing is getting a good squad performing as expected.

It's unlikely any top 10 Championship side is even vaguely interested in McKenna.

Certainly, the likes of Brighton in the Premier League will have sights set far higher than someone who's had one underachievement season in League One, followed by starting well in the next one.

You would really hope that Ashton has someone maintaining a file on suitable replacements for McKenna. Hopefully he can get us up this season and will be with us for a couple of years but succession planning will be key to our long term success.

He's not really achieved anything yet so one would hope he won't get any offers he'd want to accept until at the very least he's got us promoted.

It would be nice to be in a position when someone actually want's to recruit our manager.

When was his underachievement season in L1? Presume you're not talking about the half season where he took over a club mid table and 10 points off the playoffs?

Didn't McKenna say he was waiting for the right project? Can't see him going anywhere.

I have this vision of him leading us out at Old Trafford. He really does have the opportunity to become a legend here under the new ownership if he takes us back there. One step at a time but right now, this club is an exciting place to be.

I do think you have to take the Ipswich specs off for this sort of thing.

Viewed from outside the club Ipswich winning this league (which we are a long way from doing yet) is just par performance. Any Championship club that needs a new boss is going to look at young League One bosses that are substantially out-performing their budget. As it stands that's Steven Schumacher, Ian Evatt, Mark Bonner, Matt Taylor, Liam Manning (for last season). If you're looking for more experience maybe Karl Robinson and Gareth Ainsworth.

The style and his background bumps McKenna up the list for some clubs, but I think he has to actually win something before we have to worry about him being poached.

Might be being harsh on Manning but to come here and play the way they did would be a massive red flag for me.

It's not like our style of play was brand new.

He isn't even in the same league as KM reputationally. McKenna's CV is so impressive with his progression from Spurs to United, and through there under the sort of managers he worked for.

I think it's naive to suggest he's in the same bracket as the likes of Manning and Schumacher, he's very highly thought of in the industry. He'll definitely be linked with a lot of clubs over the next 6 months, especially if he keeps us top of the L1 tree.

Manning was headhunted from West Ham's U23s to be head of coaching for one of the City Group's franchises. He's now impressed as first team boss at Lommel and MK Dons. He's taken charge of 3 times as many games as McKenna.

He's absolutely in the same league as KM reputationally and first team management is the main quiz for most teams looking for a manager.

One of the most ridiculous managerial contracts given to a manager in the EFL that I think I've ever seen.

Ashton confirmed when we appointed McKenna, he does just that, tracks up and coming managers.

If/when McKenna leaves, I suspect we will see another similar appointment to him come in, up and coming young coach from the Prem, or someone else around the globe.

If McKenna is poached soon, which I don't think will happen until he's done more to prove himself here, then Liam Manning might well be on the list.

I'd be happy with that, especially with the Ipswich connect among his backrooms staff as well.

Best wishes to Price as well.

I would be highly surprised if LM is to get as much attention as McKenna, the only basis on which he might is that he's potentially easier to prize away from MK Dons that McKenna would be from us, especially if their mediocre start continues.

Not to mention the others that you listed. Schumacher, Bonner etc have nothing like the CV that KM has.

Evatt, Bonner, Taylor, Ainsworth all have promotions on their CV. For the vast majority of clubs time in the hot seat is the real quiz, not whether you were a good U23 coach.

I get that, but outside of Ipswich all people see is an underachievement. The playoffs were certainly a possibility.

Look at Cooper in the championship with Forest. They'd lost 6 of their first 8 but he came in and got them to the Premier League, with a lower quality squad relatively speaking at that level than we had at this level.

He is the sort of manager to get headhunted, not McKenna.

Hopefully by the time he has done enough to impress someone like Man Utd, he will have done so well with us and developed such a mutual affiliation that they would no longer be able to attract him!

Additionally, no manager is going to last forever and the most important thing is that, as and when we do have to replace him (for whatever reason), we appoint very well. I trust this administration to do that far more than I trust ME to.
