Match postponed. 11:33 - Sep 9 with 6261 views | FrimleyBlue | Feel sorry for all those casual workers wanting wages this week and small businesses who rely on matchday income. All for paying respects etc. But should have been done with a minute silence etc not by cancelling the weekend.

Not just 90 minutes tho for those I've mentioned. For businesses it's a whole weekend. From hotels to cafes to pubs to newsagents. Casual workers who would have worked through the game and after etc.

To do what though? The rest of the country is still going to be open so what difference does it make? We just supposed to sit in silence for a couple of hours Saturday afternoon to show respect? | | | | Login to get fewer ads
Match postponed. on 11:39 - Sep 9 with 3110 views | Swansea_Blue | I don't agree with the decision. people can equally show their respects by shows of togetherness in the grounds and by talking about her memories with friends around the game. Far more so than by sitting at home alone. But I can understand it - it's not a huge surprise to see games cancelled.

Isn't it about the 'sport' showing a little bit of respect though? EDIT - I understand there are ways in which you could do that with the events going ahead. [Post edited 9 Sep 2022 11:40]

What if the players/staff/match officials etc want to mourn? I’m gutted too though, think it should be on.

Yes It will make a massive difference. And the efl aren't going to cover the losses are they. Hotels. B&Bs. Cafes. Pubs. Newsagents. Bakerys. Local shops. Town centres shops. Restaurants. Etc etc

Precisely this. Compare and contrast the income of, say, The Arcade Tavern on a Saturday matchday with what they'll bring in for a midweek game.

Don't get me wrong, I'm gutted as is my boy, but it's one game and given the scale of what's happened I don't think it's a huge overreaction.

I see what you are saying. I would point out the matches are not cancelled but postponed - they will still go ahead - so in terms of 'losses' they aren't as such - just that income coming at a later date.

Personally if that 1 match/day is so important then they either should close and save on energy etc Or they're on the brink and aren't going to last too much longer. Yes some pubs. I hardly think Hotels/B&B are going to be that affected. TOwn centre shops will be fine. I think you're being a bit OTT on the point. Yes a few places will be affected. Not the mass loads you are sayng though.

They are losses though as the games will most likely become midweek fixtures which changes the income potential massively. Reduced attendances etc. Reduced need for certain establishments.. Take the greyhound as an example. Tomorrow would have been packed from morning. For the re arranged game midweek.. that changes.

Match postponed. on 11:47 - Sep 9 with 2847 views | HighgateBlue | I disagree with this decision, especially given that West Ham went ahead on the actual day of her death. The St Leger has been shunted to Sunday and there's now an incredible day's racing (the cream of Friday and Saturday rolled into one), but we don't have that luxury in football. Come to think of it, I'm not really sure why not. Doncaster races hosts 25,000 fans - why can't football organise itself as nimbly and just move it to Sunday? Why is football off on Sunday anyway when other sports are not? They've badly misjudged the mood of the nation I believe, and I say that as someone broadly in favour of the monarchy and utterly respectful of HM The Queen.

Match postponed. on 11:48 - Sep 9 with 2823 views | PassionNotAnger | It’s a postponement, not a cancellation, the game will be played and people will be able to earn money (if that’s your priority and concern) on the alternative date. Perhaps not as much as on the original date for some but I think there is a lot of overreacting to a collective mark of respect for a once in a generation event based (if people were really honest with themselves) over have to wait a bit longer for a game of football. Still we all have different priorities I guess

It's every business actually. And you don't have to be on the brink to miss a weekends income. Also as mentioned casual workers will indeed miss their pay. Some may have even used it to get through their next week.... It's a ridiculous decision with little thought other than trying to win a popularity contest.
