I like the respectful minute silence for remembrance, that's what it should be about for me, silently contemplating the horror of war and the sacrifices people have made. We've ended up in a place in this country where its almost about glorifying it all and I'm really uncomfortable with it - I generally don't wear a poppy these days because of it, but I do genuinely spend that minutes silence in contemplation and hoping we don't have another major war.
I was born underwater, I dried out in the sun.
I started humping volcanoes baby, when I was too young.
Sports over here, the NFL in particular, have a fetish-like obsession with the military. It’s all very unseemly and I’d hope English teams would be a little more dignified and respectful around Remembrance Day.
That said, when you’ve had a few beers pre-game and the F16 jets fly over just before kick off after a hearty rendition of Star Spangled Banner… that’s pretty cool to be fair.

Being a British Legion poppy collector, I find that statement of not bothering to wear a poppy as a bad comment against those who served in World War 2 and any battle that British serviceman have taken part in and lost there lives protecting us.

Seems to have been suggested by the Combat2Coffee guy rather than a club idea. I've served and won't be wearing mine - I'll have them on at the Rememberance Day Service the next day but my 'going to football clobber' doesn't really go with wearing medals.

While I'm happy to put some money in a British Legion collection box and join in the reflection on armistice day I choose not to wear a poppy. It's not that I 'can't be bothered'. My grandad was one of the first British soldiers who went into Changi prison. What he saw never left him. He never wore a poppy.

Essentially, where I'm at.
I do wonder if the ever surging jingoism that accompanies Remembrance nowadays is related to the fact that most WWII veterans have either passed away or are extremely elderly and frail now. I'm certain my grandad who served with the Royal Navy would have bee horrified by some of the garish and tacky displays(some of which have been endorsed and or sold by the RBL) we've see in increasing numbers over the past decade or so

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

I'm in the same boat as Dubtractor. I agree with the original sentiment of Remembrance, but choose not to wear a poppy owing to what it has become over the course of the last 10/15 years.
Sadly I would suggest that the RBL has helped in the push towards the fetishization of military/remembrance and the glorification of war, with their willingness to churn out all sorts of poppy-emblazoned tat and, no doubt, willingness to license the poppy to anyone willing to pay the requisite fee.
To me, the modern stance amongst many of "YOU MUST WEAR A POPPY OR YOUR HATE FREEDOM" is the complete antithesis of what the Poppy Appeal should actually stand for.

I personally will always wear a poppy but judging those who dont is very silly
I just hope no one is mugged by a drugged up teen looking for an ebay item. No need to have medals on display unless attending a funeral/memorial event.

What has the Poppy "become over the course of the last 10/15 years"?

Blimey, that's a hot take.
You have a very creative mind Frimmers, have you ever thought about a job in advertising?
Trust the process. Trust Phil.

It is an idea that has come from a veterans charity and the club are happy to support. No-one is forced to wear medals. It is a small gesture of appreciation to those who/who have served,

He hasn't stated he's "not bothering" though, he's making a decision not to due to a valid reason.
I'll stand and observe a silence, reflect on the futility of war and pay my respects to those who've died, but I don't feel the need to wear a poppy and show it to everyone.
Trust the process. Trust Phil.

Nigel Seaman, the founder of Combat2Coffee, proposed the idea, which will be repeated at future Remembrance fixtures at Portman Road.
“We usually only wear medals at funerals and on Remembrance Day. Why shouldn't we wear these at a Remembrance match to continue to grow the Armed Forces message?” he told the club site.
I found the bit about growing the armed forces message really odd. It would be a no if I had a vote.
I wear a standard poppy pin. I don't want it 5x the size of a normal one, I don't want it showered in glitter, I don't want my club's badge next to it, I certainly don't want one with some right wing BS shoehorned in. Even the date can fook off. Just a minimalist poppy pin as a mark of respect.

I think the point is that vets/military only get seen on discrete occasions - the rest of the time they appear to be remote from the rest of society. This idea is trying to correct that but I’m not sure both parties seem very comfortable with the it.

Indeed. Which is rather ironic given the lack of support vets get from the people who sent them to war (the govt in case of any doubt for those at the back!).
We’re heading that way. I’d like to acknowledge people’s contribution, but don’t want to feel coerced into it and neither should it replace proper repatriation and support from the govt. we shouldn’t need charity to prop up those who’ve risked their lives in service and need help as a result.
