Joe Pigott - could be hard to shift 13:35 - Dec 14 with 4418 views | Radlett_blue | Pigott still has 18 months on his Town contract, presumably on high wages as he came on a free. I understand his wish to move from Pompey, but I doubt we would find another club to pay as much of his wages as they are doing so he could prove hard to shift. If he comes back here (I don't think Pompey can force a recall) he'll kick his heels as a squad player. His value will have plummeted again so hard to see who will take on his wages for next season.

I think a pay-off & a free in the summer is the most likely route. If Pompey had gone well, we could probably have offloaded him to them or another decent League 1 club. I think they are effectively stuck with him for the season.

He'll just be out on loan again next season. Pompey are lumbered with him unless someone else will pick up whatever proportion of his wages they are paying. Next year he will be into his final 12 months and will want a loan to try and earn a contract somewhere you'd think, can't see anyone buying him. Probably the worst of Cooks signings overall.

Joe Pigott - could be hard to shift on 13:48 - Dec 14 with 3376 views | Vic | I suspect he'll be loaned out to a lower League 1 side - maybe a team who've just been promoted and see him as a step up from what they had in League 2. He'll be viewed as experienced and someone able to help them consolidate.

Joe Pigott - could be hard to shift on 13:57 - Dec 14 with 3304 views | clive_baker | I think all parties would have to agree to terminating his loan, so presumably we wouldn't do that unless we a) found another club for him on equal or better terms for us or b) Pompey paid up some of what we would've been due for them in the 2nd half of the season and we got to a beneficial agreement. Ultimately we're in a much stronger position than they are if they want to send him back. So we're probably just looking at him as a 12 month problem from summer 23 until the end of his contract. I wouldn't be surprised if he gets half the money elsewhere and there's a bit we need to pay to incentivise him to go.

I genuinely don't know what he brings to a team - he isn't a poacher, he isn't good in the air, doesn't bring other players into the game, doesn't chase, sh1thouse and harry and isn't particularly quick. I've heard he's on circa £9k per week (!) so I doubt he's going to get £4.5k from a bottom half League 1/top half League 2 club.

And no doubt a big pay rise if we get promoted this season so could easily be another £4-5k of wages a week we need to shift if we go up this season.

And yet he scored something like 20 goals for AFC Wimbledon in league 1 a couple of seasons ago strange one .

If you look at his career - that is the 'only' decent season. His average is typically single figures for a season.

I think that's probably about right. If he's on £500k a year and a Bristol Rovers or Bradford can stretch to £200k then that's a relatively big chunk of change to bridge the gap. There will be an element of him just wanting to play football, and the length of his next contract will be front of mind for him, but equally why would he walk away from that sort of money when he could probably sit tight and get exactly the same move 12 months later. I imagine we'll be in for a couple of hundred grand in the summer to get him shifted.

He lucked out and his agent likely played a blinder. Sunderland were apparently interested, we viewed them as a divisional rival and we almost certainly overpaid for him. The fact he was on a free and there was no fee involved meant he was in a very strong negotiating position. Fair play, that'll be his 1 big career pay day and he's cashed his chips well. From our perspective it's looking like an expensive 7-figure mistake though when you consider his wages and probably signing on fee.

I'd heard we were lead to believe he was going to Reading, heard what they were offering then went in way over the top to get him here.

Joe Pigott - could be hard to shift on 14:45 - Dec 14 with 2835 views | J2BLUE | He's a 12 month problem for us. He's Portsmouth's problem for 6 months unless someone steps in to pay the same amount of his wages and it suits us to let him go there. Portsmouth insisted on the no break clause and if we tried to end the loan early and he was banging them in they would quite rightfully tell us to do one. Joe mentions a promotion wage increase for him. If he just wants to pay I would like to see us remove that as part of any deal to end his loan early. Obviously he might not agree to that in which case we would need to negotiate but no one we would want to send him to is going to pay a higher percentage of his wages than Portsmouth so we're the ones who would be doing them a favour. To be completely honest, i'm not sure what we would gain from it if something like the above was not on the table.

I keep pointing out that he was terrific in the first few games of last season. I think we did not play to his attributes after that and quite possibly his attributes do not suit our style of play. But players do not generally become bad overnight. There is still a decent player in there.
