Don’t shoot the messenger on 15:03 - Dec 19 with 2990 views | BigCommon | I'd like to think that Town's recruitment radar and Ashton's dashboard reach further afield than the same 3 or 4 names that get touted about by the fan base, with every window... Leif Davis, for instance. I doubt was on many people's list of in comings , last window, until it became public knowledge. He's a great example of the kind of players we need, imo. Young, talented and hungry. With an, as yet, unknown ceiling in terms of development.. I doubt a player, that scored one goal in half a season, whilst being given the lions share of minutes under KM, would be top of his shopping list..? Especially if they've done little since, to suggest they are going to rip it up... Agents have a job to do. They contact clubs in order to get their clients a pay day.. Personally think that Ladapo is an all round better version of what KM looks for in a striker. Than anyone else we've had up top since KM's arrival. And off the pitch, he appears to be, very low maintenance, no noise, no baggage. Very important with such a tight group of players, imo. Others may disagree...

Freddie been exactly what I thought he'd be. But we just don't have the right support around him. Chaplin banging in 3 goals every 15 games isn't of use. We had similar last season where he scored 1 in 12. Then scored 2 in 3 and everyone loved him again. Its not enough imo when playing such an attacking role. Davis for all his positives.. he's got to chip in with a few goals himself. For the amount of attacking areas he gets into. 0 goals is shocking imo. Burns.. again another who imo should be providing much more than he is. The biggest difference and plus is we have scored from set pieces. Thankfully otherwise that goal scored column would look midtable.

I've wanged on about it a few times, but we really should score more goals from open play, when you consider the amount of good positions we get into, and the chances we create. We have had a really strong first half of the season, and all of us would have taken our current position at the start of the season, but a couple a choice attacking additions could see us take things up a gear and become unplayable.

Indeed. We are already top scorers in the league so imagine if we had a striker tucking away more of the chances we create. We'd be out of sight. I'm not sure Bonne is that player. But I also have no idea who might be - unless we really push the boat out on someone like Clarke-Harris. Everyone else seems a bit of a gamble - and this isn't really the season to be gambling - we really need someone nailed on to come in and give us that lift over the line. Absolutely. I think if we were sitting here in Feb they'd be a bit more of a concern but we certainly do have January and I think we have to trust that not KM but the owners can sense how close we are to promotion but also how tight it is at that top end and really give us that boost we need to take us from promotion contenders to promoted.

If we did sign Bonne imo it wouldn't be for the scoring. What Bonne did do was run and run alot. So that 70th minute sub.. that might be him.

I suspect you are right. I cannot recall (m)any of KM's signings being on the radar Town fans until they were signed or very close to signing. IIR, there may have been some chat about Ladapo and possibly Harness as the type of player we should be after but TJJ, Ball, Leigh and Keogh were all late breaking news. There was also not much clamour for Camara and Ahadme until news broke on deadline day. KM has said he like athleticism and technically proficient players who have come through good academies so we are starting to get a sense of the qualities he is looking for.

Don’t shoot the messenger on 14:09 - Dec 19 by Parky | Harsh to write off Ahadme when he’s played 50 minutes off our bench in the league, with no starts. Admittedly against Buxton, but he’s scored in his only start for us. FWIW, not saying he’s the answer, but I’ve seen a lot of people calling for him to go out on loan and say he isn’t good enough. I’d like to see him actually given a chance before making that decision. |
It's not a case of writing him off as a signing, but more a case of saying he isn't going to do it for us this year; or certainly doesn't look likely to.

We've scored 28 goals from open play this season which is 3rd in the league - the mid table teams - i.e. 12/13th have scored 16 from open play We've had 267 shots from open play, 1st in the league - the mid table teams have had 183 Our open play xG is 22.6, 1st in the league, is 14.5 So it's wrong to say that if we didn't have set pieces we'd be mid table, we'd still be basically at the top of the league for goals scored

My bad. I thought someone posted the other day that we were top of set piece goals with 7 or 8 something. You're still right though it still wouldn't make us midtable We are tho as you say pretty much there. Jan can just help us reach even higher levels to ensure we finish in the top 2 and drop out of them. Turn these draws into wins and make being top of all these stats count.

I think they are currently counting, we are top 2 going along at over 2 points per game, but it's just making sure we keep this standard up and return the squad to where it was/needed to be in pre season - i.e. replace Ball/Camara, John-Jules and a striker

I don't feel as confident now as I did about 8 weeks back. Something about games lately just don't seem to flow. I think someone said we've just dipped below 2ppg? They may be wrong. I'm not sure. I just want to see a nice run of 3 4 wins just to cement ourselves in that top 2. The last few weeks have just felt like any moment now we will drop to third. And with Barnsley going on a run. Having another side within the battle isn't a nice thought. But. This is town. Hopefully come boxing day evening we've put Oxford away and pick up another 3 points.

Thanks J2. Joe said similar. I'm aware of the current standing. I was referring to the post I'd seen where I believe they were talking about a run of fixtures had dropped us below 2ppg after sat. No need to try get personal when I'm just actively having a nice discussion with Joe. If I've misunderstood a post then sobeit.

I think maybe sometimes problem can be you hear something that is false and don't check it and it panics you, we are still on 45 from 22 so over 2 per game and haven't dropped below that all season
