Very sad news this. His lyrics were so cutting, Friday Night Saturday Morning remains one if my favourite songs. Lucky to have seen The Specials live a few times. An icon of British music.
We now live in a world where Stereotypes and Gangsters are the Lunatics who have taken over the asylum, passing laws to ensure Our lips are sealed, creating Ghost towns with their policies.
No more going out Friday night coming home Saturday morning after a visit to the Nightclub.
Terry has checked out of the Rat race.
(If you ever think of me) I'll be thinking of you
RIP Terry Hall There goes another key person from my childhood and specifically the 79-82 seasons

Another shocker for me, so close after Wilko, this time of year does seem to love harvesting musical icons.
The Specials were my first band, I bought the album having just become a teenager and it opened the eyes of a young rural kid to some aspects of things that had passed me by at my young age. I played that record to death, in our local Youth Club it got more plays than anything.
RIP Terry, very sorely missed.
No idea when I began here, was a very long time ago. Previously known as Spirit_of_81. Love cheese, hate the colour of it, this is why it requires some blue in it.

Rural kid too. They made a huge impression on me growing up in a village and going to a village school where there were no non-white faces.
They came along just as I went to the bright lights of Ipswich and when there was a fair few NF groups making noises. Very important band for that time and the first to teach me music could mean something and not just to pogo about to.
Christ, that’s some tough teenage years. Didn’t know about that.
I knew Terry Hall had mental health issues & had been diagnosed as a manic depressive, but I didn't know about his abduction & abuse as a teenager until now. I saw The Specials twice, once at Hammersmith Palais in 1980 & again at The Roundhouse in 2014. RIP.

I remember watching that programme at the time, and love the little skinhead next to Terry Hall.
Rock Goes to College brings back great memories. In my first term at Leeds University , we had the Specials, the Ramones, the Clash, the Stranglers and the Jam, a succession of bands that could never be beaten.

EDIT: my mind is playing tricks. The Specials played a year or so later.
