Who else???? 11:14 - Jan 9 with 3547 views | BigCommon | Assuming we get Broadhead done, on top of Luongo and Hirst. Are there any other areas we could do with strengthening?? I would be quite content with those three tbh. Hirst as an out and out CF to give good competition and rotation options for Freddy. Broadhead as a slightly deeper option, in one of the advanced 10 roles, with the versatility to play up top in a 2 or as back up striker. Or wider Luongo bolstering the MF options. Giving us Morsy, Evans, Humphreys and Luongo as a solid 4 to choose 2 from. Maybe, now, we can see Jackson as a wide right option and back up/rotation for Burns? The only one I can think of, where some were asking for a decent back up for JD. But I recon, between Fridge (Who played that role quite well, imo, when he came on against Wycombe), and KVY? We've probably got enough on board already for that role. I wouldn't mind seeing another AM, greedy I know. But it would give us license to really freshen things up, in game and keep up the intensity in their third. (Whittaker not officially dead in the water. Although looking unlikely). I guess Humphreys or Jackson could be used in those roles for last 15-20 if needed. It's another one of those, where, just like early season, we look strong again on paper. But a couple of bad injuries might see us a little stretched again. Anyone think they'll be a 4th or even 5th arrival?
Who else???? on 11:22 - Jan 9 with 3452 views | xrayspecs | We are already maxed out on senior outfield players (22) and assuming we sign Boradhead, it would mean one of our seniors (Ball most likely) will not be registered to play in the second half of the season. After this, it will need to be a one in, one out approach. Whittaker (I suspect very unlikely) would not count as he is still classed as an U21. I do wonder if we will go back in for Taylor at Posh toward the end of the window, we still seem keen on him.

No point doing this unless he is going to be playing. At the moment, he is being far better served with regular football where he is.

Who else???? on 11:27 - Jan 9 with 3340 views | LankHenners | I'm sure if we can get a sensible price out of Peterborough for Taylor we'll push the button on that if the opportunity arises near the end of the window, plus if we can get another attacking midfielder we will as it'll be like the Celina signing - an extra bit of quality to (hopefully) make sure we can keep all guns firing until the end of the season.

Who else???? on 11:28 - Jan 9 with 3299 views | geg1992 | Personally I'd like someone to compete with Burns - I don't think Jackson is the answer. I have no idea who besides Whittaker perhaps? But someone in his mould. But I think I'm being greedy at this stage. I just would love someone to be able to run at defenders and make them panic. Although Jackson has pace, he doesn't have particularly good dribbling skills - more straight line speed.

Broadhead is surely instead of Whittaker, seems like a similar player?

I see Kenny Jackett and Andy Hessenthaller have both gone to Gillingham. Plenty of experience in the building these days. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Surely Whittaker isn't going to come. He doesn't want to be here, and that doesn't fit with Ashton and Mckenna's attitude.

Has there been anything to suggest Whittaker doesn't want to be here? He's clearly a target, as first reported by Phil back in November (?), so I'm sure Ashton and McKenna will have done their background checks on him.

If we get another AM in then I would think Edwards would leave on loan. I think Taylor will be just if he’s available at the right price, I don’t think we need another midfielder but clearly he’s a long term target so we’ll get it done if we can.

Still think "if" Whittaker "could" be done. Then it would be done. Not least for the potential aspect. Getting players in now, that would/could be Championship ready, may be easier (and cheaper), than trying to sign them as a Championship club. I don't like to just assume that we will get promotion. But everything possible is being done, this season, to try and make that happen. So, some future planning, in what could be our last window in L1 for a while. Would be a wise move, imo. As far as squad places go. I'm assuming both Ball and Camara might be omitted from the new look squad. If either of them do recover ahead of time. They are going to take a while to be match ready. Which is a waste of a squad place, imo. Would love to have seen Camara featuring this season. If he is included. Then that might indicate that he's progressing ahead of schedule?

By all accounts he doesn't want to be anywhere other than Plymouth, and was very angry at Swansea for recalling him, which i understand. I mean I'm sure if he came down here and spoke to K Mc and Ashton he would be impressed and happy to sign, but Mckenna and Ashton speak about players running towards Ipswich, Whittaker isn't doing that. Lets see what happens though, i cant see that deal being done. Think he will want Championship football if he's been recalled, but Broadhead, Massimo and Hirst would be good business. This is football, money talks for clubs and especially for players. Wouldn't be surprised if the Whittaker deal gets done, especially once the Plymouth game is out of the way so he doesn't have to deal with all the commotion around that.

Suspect he's, understandably to be fair to him, pissed off at being taken out of an environment he was really enjoying being in and performing well in and will probably be wanting something to be worked out for him to go back. If it can't happen then he'll have to get over it and make a move somewhere else to keep up his personal momentum rather than sit on the bench if that at Swansea.

Clearly a deal there to be done with Swansea (for any club, not just us), but given the Downes deal/payments, that could work in our favour. I suspect the next 10-14 days are crucial, if he's not moved by then, I imagine going in to the last week of the window he will end up back at Plymouth on loan.

Sounds all to similar to the Simpson debacle we had last January.

I think the best we can hope for is one more - hopefully Broadhead. As for Whittaker, if he isn’t coming to Town (which I don’t think he will), I only hope he doesn’t go back to Muff especially before this coming Sat.

Who else???? on 12:32 - Jan 9 with 2040 views | clive_baker | We good, unless there's a silly offer for one of ours. If we're talking about a 23 man squad we've got really nice looking balance: Walton, Hladky Davis, Leigh Donacien, KVY Keogh, Edmundson, Woolf, Burgess Burns, Edwards, Jackson Evans, Morsy Humphreys, Luongo Chaplin, Harness Aluko, Broadhead Ladapo, Hirst Others: Ball injured, Camara injured, Ahadme back up. Could perhaps afford to lose one of Jackson or Edwards, although no real value in that. Ahadme could go on loan to Burton if they wanted him, might be beneficial for his development. No rush for Camara or Ball to get back fit. Luongo is a smart singing given the length of contract, covers that period but makes sure we're not overly committed beyond the summer.

Who else???? on 12:37 - Jan 9 with 1922 views | tractordownsouth | I don’t think we need anybody else, we have at least 2 for every position. Walton (Hladky, Coleman) Donacien (KVY) Woolfenden (Keogh) Burgess (Edmundson) Burns (Jackson) Morsy (Luongo, Camara) Evans (Humphreys) Davis (Leigh) Chaplin (Aluko) Harness (Edwards) Ladapo (Broadhead, Hirst, Ahadme) Hopefully Camara will be back around April so I don’t see where we can bring anyone else in. I struggle to see Ahadme getting game time with the new additions; hopefully Burton would be open to taking him back on loan because it would be a waste for him to be 4th choice in a system with only 1 striker.

Some suggestions on social media that a fee has been agreed with Swansea but the player is stalling because he doesn’t want to play against Plymouth on Saturday! Take that with as much salt as you like!
