I'm not sure I want any more signings 07:58 - Jan 10 with 5745 viewsGavTWTD

Am I mad? I don't want to upset the team too much especially if the 4th player doesn't really want to be here.

If you liked my post, please take the time to upvote it. It's very much appreciated.

Personally I think we need a defender. Keogh not up to it and Edmundson too flakey. If wolf/donacien get injured then we are in trouble

In amongst my desired additions, another CB (more dynamic than Keogh) was in there, but I think we've done ok with what we have and can see the season out happily (injuries aside) it's certainly not as pressing a need as other areas and I think we'd be looking to upgrade significantly in that position if we secured promotion anyway.

So many games we should have had teams dead and buried by half time and just haven't done so, if our new recruits can produce a better conversion rate than what we have, it won't matter who's at the back, as we'd be out of reach anyway and could afford to concede a goal here and there without adding any pressure.

I would sort of agree, but a defender who can step up to Championship level would be nice. Keogh does not look anywhere near Championship level now. Mark McGuinness from Cardiff as a permanent signing would be my completely ridiculous choice to really take us forward as a club.

I think those of us who remember the large influx of players in the summer of 2001, which I believe disrupted one of our previously key attributes, ie team spirit (& also iirc broke the wage structure via Sereni and/or Finidi) - are likely to be as "mad" as you then!

I'd take Whittaker for sure. If only to ensure Plymouth don't get him back.

I'm quite surprised we've gone for 2 strikers tbh. Not sure how he'll keep the 3 (with Ladapo) all happy or give them all a run long enough to get into their stride. But we'll see. If we have 2 up top, then it should be ok I suppose.

Afterall they say 3 is a magic number

Very happy with the 3 we have brought in and a 4th would probably rock the boat in terms of playing time maybe

Personally, if there's one available, I'd add an extra central defender.

I think the squad attacking wise is formidable now and can't see space for Whittaker, unless there's already some players going out that we don't know about yet. There may be deals on the table that have been waiting for us to sign Hirst and Broadhead, which can now go ahead now they've signed.

I'd be hugely surprised if there's not at least two departures, whether sold or loaned out.

I personally don't think we're good enough defensively. Some of the goals we've given away this season are down to poor defending/silly mistakes. KM is very professional in his pressers and never berates a player, which I think is the right thing. Everything negative only behind closed doors. But he knows the defensive mistakes we've made. even at this level. He's obviously building a midfield and forward line capable of potentially doing well in the Championship, why not do the same defensively?

I feel our central defence needs bolstering and be more competitive. Keogh isn't good enough now (as a player) and Edmundson has struggled recently. If there's a good championship-level central defender available I wouldn't be surprised to see MA/KM go and get him.

Edmundson struggled? Not sure that's true.

Burgess has done well but there's hardly anything between them.

By various accounts Broadhead is more likely to be a Chaplin/Harness replacement/sub rather than being in competition with Hirst and Ladapo.

If we had a real crisis at CB both JD and GL can play there. So basically we have 6 CB's at this level - LW, CB, GE, GL, JD and RK. Should be enough to get us to May.

I'd generally agree. It's not like we need lots more players.

Besides which, we're just at the point where we don't have to leave anyone out for the second half of the season.

Would take Whittaker in a shot, either permanent or loan to perm., and loan out or sell someone like Jackson. His ability (Whittaker) to take a player on and score from outside the box would make him a great addition. The only question mark, and I think this is what Gav's point is, is upsetting the existing good atmosphere.

If possible I would find another CB/RB and de-register Keogh to allow him to concentrate on his coaching development.

Apart from that, I don’t think we need any other signings.

Broadhead's youtube highlights reel suggests he plays a kind of old-fashioned no 8, breaking late into the box, rather than a no 9. Potentially a Harness upgrade. Our central attacking midfield starts to look very tasty indeed, with Chaplin, Aluko & Humphries all effective at this level.
The January buys seem to have given McKenna the option to sub the front 3 or 4 at 70 mins, per the start of the season, but with better players.

There remains a slight concern over CM, but we do have Morsy, Evans, Humphries & Luongo. (Yes, I have doubled up Humphries, but that's a sign of the lad's progress).

Agree with this. My son's sent me a Tweet from Town featuring the three players and saying 'Our business so far'. Personally I don't think we need anyone else and there is potential for disruption to a fairly settled side - but if it has to be anyone else, a defender in place of Keogh would help. Though, BTW, I get nervous any time Hladky plays....

Squad is already pretty hefty isn't it... There are a few players who could do with being taken out of the picture though. I feel like we could do with an option on the right who is less of a straight-line type of player and would offer a bit more control (and can also play in the middle?) Who is the League One equivalent of Fede Valverde?

Think the same. Three is a good number.

Perhaps another one in the last week if we are carrying a long term injury, but we've got to use the squad now.

Afraid no sentiment if they are better than we have and get us where we want to go sign them

I agree. We don't have weak positions so I don't see the need to upset the current squad.

We probably need to ship out a couple before we recruit now.

Seems like Broadhead may be in line to go wide left and share that position with Harness. Harness has been a quality player for us so to go and recruit Whitaker as well and end up with three there plus Edwards seems a bit mad.

Humphreys deserves his chance more and more centre mid, so I wouldn't get Taylor either.

Championship squad depth is 25, rather than 22 in L1 so its possible that some of the fringe players might go out on loan til the end of the season, but assuming we can get out of this league, suddenly those players are back in the frame again.

Assume that Penney and perhaps Harper might move on permanently this window. Ahedme in the next?
