We have absolutely fcked this haven’t we 19:40 - Feb 11 with 45278 viewstextbackup

Even a draw after pissing about going 2-0 down isn’t good enough.

We were fcking top, points clear.

This is an absolute shtshow, we’ll probably nick a 5th 6th place finish due to the sheer amount of sht we have left to play… but I don’t see us getting anything from barnsley Bolton or Derby, might nick a point or two if we are lucky, which really then gives nobody any hope that the playoffs will result in anything but 82726 passes then concede from the only shot or two we have against us.

Stokie hasn't caught me out. He'd helped to prove the point.

You've twisted yourself up. You're now agreeing it's not the best football. It's the nicest looking. Which is different. So fine if you feel its the nicer looking. But then it falls into people did like the nice football managers like Hurst were putting on despite results and lambert football was nice to many until it failed. So yes I agree it's nice.

It's good to finally agree however that it's to early to call it the best football since Burley.

I give up. It's just lies, disingenuousness and swerving now.

I haven't twisted anything, you have.
Stokie embarrassed you, the complete opposite of proving your point.
We were discussing the nicest football - you even came into this bit with "nice football". We've been discussing the aesthetics for several pages. You are either being disingenuous or are really dumb.
No-one looks back fondly on Hurst's football. What do you mean "until it failed"?! It failed from the start. He had 1 win and was sacked after 15 games!

Try holding your hands up once in a while. Everyone can see how this has gone, it happens all the time with you. Look at the downarrows you receive and think about why. And stop twisting things, building straw men and swerving. Everyone can see it.

And have a nice day.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

I wouldn't have thought so Metal. Otherwise anyone else that does it you'd have to say was being provocative aswell.

But yes politeness is nice.

To be honest Frimmers seems I’m going off on a tangent and getting away from football as per the thread and I’m sorry for that but I can’t actually recall others doing “it”

If I did / do I’d also think it was a provocative act in all fairness but thanks for the clarification about it not being provocative and it’s just being an act of politeness

As someone had already pointed out to you. Pre season firstly then the games against Blackburn as the opener. People were liking the potential of the team. It was a quicker style than micks. He had a plan. ( ended up and awful plan) but people were liking what he was trying to do and were enjoying the football. Again tho and as I said and why SBs point has no effect on what I was saying. People were happy with it until it ultimately failed and now like your and him are proving, all you talk about is the failure and ignore that people once... that's key... once, happy with what they were watching.

And I'm not suggesting you should be upset by them. But when it happens time and time again, over endless threads (you must surely be the record holder for downarrows by now) it's surely an indication that you're doing something wrong.
I say that as someone who supports your right to post nonsense.

So with people loving Hurst's football until it failed - you're basically saying 1 league game?! And friendlies. Let's remind ourselves of those friendlies;
Braintree 2-0 Ipswich
Crawley Town 0-1 Ipswich
Barnet 0-1 Ipswich
MK Dons 0-1 Ipswich
Ipswich 1-2 West Ham

Scintillating stuff in there! 3 goals scored against lower league/non-league teams. And you reckon people were excited about the entertaining football based on that?!

I imagine you're going to say this actually supports your point in some way now!

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

I think people were optimistic under Hurst for pre-season, and they enjoyed the football for about 20 minutes during which Gwion had put us ahead against Blackburn until they equalised, then scored again and ..... well that was it as far as enjoying Hurst's reign lasted as far as I could tell.

This weird discussion about best / entertaining / successful / enjoyable football misses one thing. Wasn't 2014/15 enjoyable? And the season before it where we finished just out of the play offs when we all expected to be bottom half. - Note, the rest of Mick's seasons that followed were dire. But my point is that a more basic / agricultural playing style can be enjoyed if it's relatively successful, but if it isn't then it's a massive turn off.

I don't (for once!) massively disagree with you on this - but think the difference between the 'good football' we are playing under McKenna is both that it is measurably good - i.e. we dominate games, we create good chances, we limit teams, we dominate the ball - plus it is easy on the eye - pass completion, possession, territory etc.

Whatever happens results wise with McKenna going forwards, if we stick to this style and have the same metrics, then we will have played what every neutral would consider good football whether we get over the line or not.

I think with other managers in the past (and bearing in mind they haven't had the financial backing) is that we have at times played winning football and that is always good to watch unless totally dire but we've never dominated a division like this since George Burley or Joe Royle days.

You simply can't roll along at 2 ppg for full seasons plus which we did under GB, JR and have basically done under KM without being dominant in key areas like creating lots of chances and not conceding many.

But if we don't get where we want to get under KM, I think it will be viewed with frustration that we were playing good football the whole time.

At the moment we remind me a lot of us under Burley 1996-2000. Play fantastic football, dominate virtually every game but struggle to get over line by the metrics of a top 2 finish. And as good as we are, I'd worry about us over two legs against a side like Bolton in a play off game.

With 1/2 tweaks, we've got the players, management team and playing style to produce a similar 1st season in the Championship as we did the Prem under GB though. We just need to get out of this bloody division.

No. At the time people were concerned about lack of goalscorers etc as Hurst had Evans selling the furniture. However at the time. ( again. That's the point ) at the time, the style and football that we were playing people were liking the look of.

I'm in total agreement result wise it was shte. No one is disagreeing there. And the whole Hurst project didn't work. But at the time and at the time alone. There were people enjoying the football itself. Which is why I said it would be interesting how KM football is viewed in years to come if it doesn't equate to any form of achievement.
Has he done better than Hurst of course. That's a given.
Both without any form of success. In 10 years time, would people still call it the best football or even the most enjoyable to watch since Burley.. or will it just be remembered as another failed manager and the football itself isn't a thought.

Mostly agree, I was at the West Ham game and saw some encouraging signs. Dozzell, Downes and Nydam looked good in the middle against Premier opposition. Harrison actually looked threatening up front.

As I said I think that encouragement lasted for another 20 minutes of football afterwards

We'll have to agree to disagree on how much people were loving Hurst's style. I've laid out my evidence, I'll let others make their mind up.

So which manager - if you had to pick one - has had us regularly playing the the most enjoyable football to watch since Burley in your opinion? Not just occasionally, when the wind was blowing in the right direction, but regularly across their tenure. And I'm talking style of football played (put success to one side, although we haven't really had any since Burley anyway).

I know this question isn't aimed at me, but.........

I've been going since 1986, and the current football is the most enjoyable, satisfying (when it comes off), aesthetically pleasing style we have played since 2001. It's not even close. The level is irrelevant.

Saturday was the most intense game I've been at since the play-off semi final. It was electric. "Pulsating" some might say. I was emotionally exhausted at the end.

Long may it continue.
