What’s that all about, McKenna hardly said that Barton had said sorry in a patronising way, JB has taken it in the wrong context, obviously.

All season we've had managers saying that we will win the league, this could be the catalyst needed to turn our fortunes back around.

I don't think McKenna should have said what he did, as soon as he did he was opening him up for this response - and Barton is right.

Can't believe how salty he's been. Hilarious. Waxing lyrical about a home point like he's some sort of tactical genius.

McKenna didn’t say it with any malice though, I thought it was interesting that Barton had said that, and thought fair play for the admission.

Being how he's always been. Obviously has some ability as a manager to get where he's got with the clubs he's managed but surely anyone associated with Rovers from the fans to the board must be embarrassed by how he carries on.

That said, he's saying what we've heard almost every single week from the opposition manager but dressed up in his over-aggressive tone and language.

Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand.

Joey Barton is an awful man but there is obviously some truth in what he has said. I didn't read what McKenna might have been quoted as saying prior to the game but hopefully he will take one or two things from Barton's comments which will serve as wake-up call for the rest of our season.

I find it interesting that so many Ipswich fans are lauding Barton for what he said (not here, in the story comments) at the expense of our manager.

Barton was caught live on local radio after Rovers lost at Lincoln at the weekend, offering to fight one of the Lincoln players. He can hardly talk about "smelling pressure" on the opposition manager and expect anyone to take him seriously.

Here's the clip:

I suspect it was put to him in the wrong context. Kieran's quotes put the apology over exactly as JB explained. I don't think there was anything about it being their cup final in the press conference either, unless that was something in the iFollow interview.

Joey Barton will always be a poundshop Francis Begbie - a volatile psychopath just looking for an excuse to draw attention to the massive, soggy chip on his shoulder.

I liked Barton as a footballer and liked some aspects of his mentality.

Comments like this ( as well as other notable actions / comments ) goes to shy why he did not have a better career.

The comments from Mckenna, whilst maybe flippant, are slightly concerning.

It almost implies an attitude within the building that all other clubs should go toe to toe with us, playing free flowing football, and if they don't it's some sort of injustice.

Reminds me of Wenger in his twilight years at Arsenal, complaining after getting kicked off the park at the Britannia stadium on a cold Tuesday night.

We're in League one, we need to accept that some (maybe most) teams aren't going to open up against us. We need to find ways of dealing with it.

Barton sticking up for himself shocker,Instead of people thinking he is humble he just put Mckenna right in what he misunderstood no problem.

Yeah. That's not really what the quotes are, are they though? "could smell the pressure on him" "civilian". McKenna is always respectful of the opposition and their manager, even when we've lost. Barton was caught on radio offering to fight an opposition player last weekend.

Especially when the manager in question is the shy, retiring Joey Barton who never has a bad word or a cutting remark for anyone else in football.

The amount of people who would rather take the side of a provenly violent gobs**te against our own manager, who - whatever his failings - always conducts himself with class, and at the same time call themselves Ipswich fans, is baffling.

Yes I believe he said “their cup final” in the ifollow interview. McKenna’s comments were clearly of a man under pressure and trying to give reasons to our fans of why we’ve failed yet again. I don’t have any problem with Barton’s response as it’s pretty truthful and he is just standing his ground.

On the night, their fans cheered the final whistle like they had won, and their players were embracing on the pitch. It was a big result for them, especially after the run they had been on.

It's hardly inflammatory to say it was a cup final.

Just because they were happy with a point after a terrible run doesn't make it a cup final, it belittles them and they will (especially when JB involved) fight back and as things stand we are an easy target

It wasn’t just that comment Barton is responding to. Even so, I’m sure Rovers will have a few more games as important if not more so than Ipswich at home this season, so not really a cup final is it. The kind of comment plebs on twitter make to try and goad opposition fans. We’ll have many more of these kind of games, I’d rather he finds a way to win them than keep telling us how hard it is for Ipswich Town but seemingly no one else.
