Thinking biscuits and cakes mostly. Baked some decent low/no-added sugar cakes, but if there's any ready-made biscuits out there (or recipes) that are a nice snack/treat, that'd be good too.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

Make some flapjack... mostly oats, a bit of butter/marg whatever your preference, and add a bit of one of these syrups, give it a mix to coat the oats, and then in the oven for a short while, being careful not to overdo it, as you want to keep a bit of moistness in the middle.

Cutting down on bread and pasta does a lot of the heavy lifting. They're both loaded with sugar. I cut both of these out of my diet in January and it's made a massive difference.

Other culprits are cereals, crumpets, muesli, fruit juice and some fruits like bananas, mango, pineapple and grapes.

It's not just the obvious cakes and biscuits etc.

Going "cold turkey", and not to sound edgy - but sweeteners can create a bit of a false economy in the hunger department for some people. I lost much more weight when I stopped drinking no sugar drinks. For a sweet kick, fruit... honestly

Also, the mention above about flour above is very valid too, not so much for the carbs but more because flour is often free of fibre - and fibre + protein rich foods are usually the winners for creating a total feeling of fullness, where as sugar and flour creates a high energy spike without the sustained feeling of fullness.

It's very much trial and error, but I use drops of these in various things:
https://www.myprotein.com/sports-nutrition/flavdrops/10530471.html

Some can be quite synthetic and some are plain nasty. I mainly bought to add to unflavoured protein power, which sounds counterintuitive but I find the ready made ones far too sweet and this you can add to taste. White chocolate is great in fat free yoghurt for desert.

I also have the sugar-free butterscotch syrup, which is a bit weird on its own but I like it stirred into porridge.

Sugar free jelly is ok to kill a craving too.

I honestly don't mind Bananas - which are quite maligned for weight management - but if you have a good exercise routine, bananas are really good support I find.

Not sure about sugar specifically, but I always found having a pot of peeled and sliced carrot sticks in the fridge was a good way to avoid nibbling bread or smoking fags.

(Of course, you can't just have them in the fridge, you need to actually consume them in lieu of the other.)

Or have an extraordinary amount of the other, then you'll be too shagged out to get to the fridge!

When you say loaded with sugar I assume you're just counting all carbs as sugar?

As for dried fruit being on the red list, it's not something to pound down but for a little natural sweetness a small portion is ok in my opinion.

Yeah, cut him and his sort out of my diet, and Americans too. Nowadays I mainly stick to Africans. Nothing to do with weight control, zombies need not worry about that, more a case of minimising detection. Fava beans and a nice Chianti have also found their way into the mix for some reason...

Can't you just eat stuff in moderation and then you don't have to worry about what is in it?

That's what I do anyway, well without the moderation bit.

I normally have a large piece of cake and then a lettuce leaf to offset the sugar, I call it my net zero sugar approach.

No. There can be up to 3g of sugar in a slice of bread. It's naturally occurring in flour but also added to bread dough to accelerate yeast activity.

I'd try and find an alternative rather than the 'healthy' cake/biscuit option, they're generally a bit disappointing and you'll just be wishing you had a proper cake. Another thing is sometimes when you think you're hungry you're actually just thirsty so have a drink of water/cup of tea and see if you still want to eat something half an hour later

Serious answer, if this is just a once a day thing, say mid-afternoon, then try a hundred millilitres of kefir, flavoured if you must. Should line your gut enough to quell hunger until suppertime.

What are you eating, wonderbread?

2 slices thick wholemeal Hovis - 3.8g
100g dry weight Napolina wholewheat pasta - 3g
100g white flour - less than 0.5g (not suggesting it's healthy)

Saying these foods are 'loaded' with sugar is just incorrect.

You may be interested in Warburtons no added sugar wholemeal bread. 2.2g per two slices.

Personally I think life is too short to worry about 6g sugar in a couple of slices of bread and a serving of pasta. Both wholegrain versions have a decent hit of fibre so the sugar won't be doing any harm.
