Hands up, fair play and an apology 08:26 - Mar 20 with 3001 viewsBlueStreak

I have been fairly scathing around Walton and Wolfie over the last few months but they have been excellent the last few weeks and really getting back to their best. So hands up, they’ve proved me wrong I’m delighted for that.

I do feel like they could both be a little stronger but it’s L1 and can’t wish for everything.

Loving the team loving to defend again, you can see the determination to keep that clean sheet and I love it.

It’s easy to apologise now. We have won six on the trot and haven’t convened since as long as I can remember.

Just try not to wet the bed again when we do eventually concede. It will happen you know.

Woolfenden is so underrated, it is silly. It seems to go under the radar how comfortable he makes it look virtually every week both in the air and on the floor. It's very rare a centre forward gets the better of him.

Absolutely, and it's not clear to me (with the exception of the first goal at Oxford, where he was not the only person at fault) that any goals we have conceded this season could be put down to him.

Of course he is encouraged to play out from the back and has on occasions miss-hit a pass, but I am not aware of any of those incidents leading to a goal.

It's a definite weakness in Walton's game. His goal scoring record is also pathetic, quite frankly

No need to apologise for sharing a personal view at a time when the side wasn't achieving the minimum expected of them. Thankfully the players have turned things around and performed above expectations over the past month.

What we have now though is a fan base all enjoying what is happening on the field and long may it continue.

I genuinely meant physically stronger. I still feel like Wolfie gets bullied off the ball by a bigger striker sometimes and CW could be more physically imposing in the box but that is just my opinion. Wolfie is obviously a terrifically technical footballer, but my fear is in the Championship we may be found out there.

Anyway, I had been vocal and they have proved me wrong (not like they care anyway), so praise where praise is due.

Dont worry - you should soon be able moan about them again, demand the manager be sacked if and when they have another sequence of draws. Or even have the temerity to lose to Barnsley.

I think it's the fact he is so consistently good. Donacien is very similar in the fact they are so reliably good it is almost taken for granted.

Woolfenden is 24 years old, and I can only recall him ever dipping out of form once, although I can't remember if it was under Lambert or Cook.

He still young, although has vast experience now, but has been so good for us for such a long run now it is frightening.

Absolutely.

All defenders in this division will make the odd mistake, big or small. Even the head it, kick it ones.

The upside you get with Woolfie over one of those type of defenders is huge. Hes a quality footballer.

One of the best defenders in the league - possibly the best. Has been all season, even during our sticky patch. His reading of the game, pace and passing is ridiculous for this level, and I'm amazed that anyone thinks otherwise. So crucial to the way we play with his sweeping up in behind defensively too.

People used to say he was too laid back - I honestly think that's partly because he finds it all a bit easy. Top end Championship CB, IMO.

He would be in the conversation with the top end defenders.

Think Eiran Cashin, Ronnie Edwards, Ricardo Santos with Luke Woolfenden are the best batch in this division.

Dunno why people think this about Woolfenden. He's 6'4", he's now very strong, wins most headers and aerial duels, and barely ever gets muscled off it.

It's like just because he's good on the ball and was a bit slight when he was younger, the rare times an opposition striker does manage to better him momentarily confirms a cliché that was maybe true about 2 seasons ago but isn't anywhere close to the truth now.

For sure.

Could easily play in the championship. If we don't go up, clubs will be circling for him and Leif.

It's a fair point and one that could prove costly at the end of the season, if he was a bit better in front of goal and had taken that last minute chance against Plymouth at their place, we'd be in second place now.

We could really do with a free scoring keeper. Anyone know if Jimmy Glass is available?
