28/1 With Sky.

Can't see Sheff Wed letting go.

I’m hoping for Weds to beat Barnsley tomorrow as that gives us a defeat in hand on them.

It’s about us Plymouth & Barnsley for the 2nd place really.

We have the harder run in on paper with Barnsley, Derby & Posh away as well as Wycombe at home still to come.

Even a draw between those two would be ok, in my opinion.

Hoping for a Barnsley loss. Break their momentum, give us a three point minimum cushion and a minimum 15 goal lead in the goal difference (at least until they play their second game in hand).

It's a tough one.

Weds have two in hand and, as you say, don't look like stopping their run.

Them knocking the stuffing out of Barns form would be very useful. But a Barns win and a Weds dip in form, really could open things up!!!!

The bookies (well Bet365)…. on 11:51 - Mar 20 with 2268 viewsBloots

….have us as second faves to finish top 2.

8/11, compared to 11/10 for Plymouth.

Seems odd.

Bookies are rarely wrong, reflects the bets not the likelihood, gambling should be banned. Etc, etc…

Sky are the same. I can only think that most money was placed in pre season and includes league winner accas etc and they are still trying to balance their books by taking a bit more on Plymouth.

Four teams will probably end the season on 90pts+. Has that ever happened before? It could even be 4 on 95+, definitely not beyond the realms of possibility.

Still, not as crazy as the National League. If Wrexham or Notts County don't both go up then one will almost certainly have got over 100 pts and missed out, which would be insane.

I've said this 3 or 4 times now, but never mind... the outright odds will be increasingly based on xG for and against. It looks at the law of averages on how often teams will score and concede. We're streets ahead for both xG for and against, with very few shots conceded per game. Statistically, this makes it much harder for teams to beat us - and also tallies with the fact that we've only lost around 10% of our games.

4 horse race for sure.

Think Wednesday will do it, but they have a couple of injuries I think, and they made very few signings in January so maybe depth an issue?

….at least far more likely than saying it’s because our xG is better!

The only time you really see what the bookies think is when the opening odds are released and they have taken no money at all. The subsequent markets and prices are entirely based on liabilities and betting patterns.

Whilst we do of course have a harder run-in, I see it more as we have more opportunities than the others to break those around us, particularly Barnsley of course. And I think we will.

Any outcome has it's advantages and disadvantages.

For me, Barnsley winning would be good as that puts severe pressure on Wednesday to win their other game in hand and not have any slip ups. The fact we get to play Barnsley as well means it's still in our hands.

If it has to be the play offs, we should be confident of beating anyone over 2 legs, whether that's the team in 5th or 6th place.

It will of course be so typical for Town to get a record number of points and finish 3rd 😂

However, whatever happens, take this form, and quality, into the playoffs and I’ll be very confident

We’ll be good again... one day

True, a Barnsley loss would be in-keeping with my ‘don’t care about first place, just get second’ thing!

They had us favourites even when we were 8 points adrift for some reason!

It's because we are the best team by most of the metrics bookies use.

It's why when we play Plymouth we were something like 1.40 or 2/5 to win and are 1.20 or 1/5 to win most home games

We are the biggest favourite in the league every week, whereas Plymouth are not so they expect them to slip up and us to win every week

I think we were shorter odds to beat Shrews at the weekend than Plymouth were to beat FGR

I want a draw tomorrow
Will leave us with a 2 point advantage over Barnsley(really 3 if you include goal difference)
Wednesday will then only be 4 points ahead with a game in hand. definitely within our reach

Long. SW are at cigar and glass of sparkly stuff stage. Players getting read for Ayia Napa, looking through the options list for the new BMW etc.

Now Plymouth, who I thought were at pack the budgie smugglers stage a month ago, now have work to do, but given the fixtures and their home form you still have to fancy them for second spot. Barnsley and ourselves are still in with a shout though.

After dismal January/early February we’ve done well to get this close and in the manner we have. We’ve just got to keep winning and see where it takes us.

I'd like a draw and would like Wednesday to be pulled back into the fray. I'd rather us be one of four teams going for two places then three teams going for one.

we either accept Wed win this and hope they beat Barnsley to make it a two horse race for second, or hope Wednesday lose and ignore Barnsley and keep winning ourselves

There is a new opening line on promotion after every round of fixtures, though - an odds compiler will have to take a position on these things before taking another penny.

We are shorter odds than Plymouth because we are more likely to win more points than them in the remaining games based on pretty much every model out there (the obvious retort being that has been the case all year and we have fewer points than them, in which case 11/10 is available for you to pile into).

Me either, it would have to be a monumental eff up.

I did have a smile on my face the other day thinking about if we faced them in the play off finals and won, it would be a cool little bit of history repeating.
