So aside from not being to run onto a footie pitch in excitement, what other simple joys have been banished by our changing societal attitudes?

Before seat belts were compulsory, my Dad would happily sit 3 kids in the boot of his Cortina estate. If we were really good, he'd let us up front and we could steer the car, while he was busy lighting up and didn't want to risk any ash on his shirt.

Can't see any of those being accepted today...

Insurance and the Corporate Manslaughter Act 2007 explain much, but they do not make for a Daily Mail headline

Rake in the dosh carrying 'no win, no fee' ads, then endlessly whine when companies and councils take action to reduce liability.

My daughter shouted 'I''m not strapped in' as we rolled off the drive a few weeks back. My reply was, "I've been all the way to Barcelona without being strapped in!"

Different (but less safe) times!

It's 106 miles to Portman Road, we've got a full tank of gas, half a round of Port Salut, it's dark... and we're wearing blue tinted sunglasses.

I missed the obvious one - raves.

Dancing to sh1t music in a field is now extremely dangerous / criminal unlike in the 80s when it was quite cool and fun.

We live in such a f****d up world don't we. We strive endlessly to make anything and everything safer to save lives yet do the same to develop weapons to kill more people.

We used to just discharge raw sewage into the rivers. Then Health and safety gone mad (or not) stopped it. Thankfully, now we have left the EU, we are free to do it again.

When I was in primary school in the mid 70's we were given a full pack of Swan vestas and we covered the box in felt and added windows etc and cardboard to make a roof and made a matchbox house to take home to our parents. On the way home me and a mate burnt down two garden hedges. Imagine a school doing that now.

Do kids still get to use bunsen burners at school? We used to set fire to all sorts when the teacher's back was turned.

Leaving aside the fact that the prohibition on going on the pitch came about because of football violence, another important factor in this is the fact that people in recent years are always looking for someone to blame.

The sea scouts' I was a member of in Ipswich in the 60s and 70s had a dinghy bought by the parents of a scout who had drowned. These days the parents would sue.

Sometimes things just happen, but with a "where there's blame, there's a claim" culture, very few people just accept that life sometimes kicks you in the teeth.

We had a pyscotic teacher that used to whip us with the tube when we were caught talking. Distinct lack of teacher/pupil gratuitous violence these days - another thing modern kids won't get to experience.

Absolute carnage with the burners back in the day. Mad they let kids loose with that stuff. Also mad, when you think about it, our PE teachers showering at the same time as kids. Wouldn’t happen nowadays!

Back in around 1982, we got a whole team of U9's in a Hillman Avenger estate when only one parent turned up.
Think it was 9 a side back then.

We had a PE teacher in Sudbury from Yorkshire who was seriously into cricket and a good player( anyone from Sudbury reading this might remember MR Turner from Uplands Middle School) and he challenged anyone from the lesson to bowl him out. Up stepped Karl Mayes aged 13, bowled him first ball. If you have watched Kes with Brian Glover then you can imagine how this was accepted. Mr Turner was Mr Sugden.

You know that boring smartarse in the room who spoils the fun? That's going to be me today.

'May contain nuts' or 'may contain traces of nuts' is a perfectly sensible on packets pf peanuts because peanuts are not nuts. Peanuts are legumes more closely related lentils than, say, hazelnuts.

Pull the other one. Next you’ll be telling us ginger nuts aren’t nuts.

Mum and dad going to the pub and leaving me in the car with a bottle of pop and a packet of crisps for a couple of hours.

Also. Mum and dad at Butlins leaving me as a six month old in the chalet whilst they were in the bar. Which all parents did. Every 15 minutes or so there would be an announcement over the tanoy announcing there is a baby crying in chalet (insert number)

The fire works displays were far more fun without health and safety. The Brantham one this year - they've banned sparklers ffs.
