Football things you get irrationally annoyed by on 16:44 - Jun 3 by Pique | Mixed feelings from me. Anyone who says there haven't been improvements since that era is mad - particularly when it comes to stadia, as you say, with many of the old stadiums being disgusting and often downright dangerous. But it was also an era where middle size clubs like Ipswich, Nottingham Forest, Derby, Southampton etc could, with some canny purchases, a good youth system and inspirational management compete for trophies at the highest level. And that's pretty much gone now, which is very sad. (And yes Leicester, but that looks increasingly like the outlier that proves the rule) |
Good post. Fully agree.

Football things you get irrationally annoyed by on 17:59 - Jun 3 with 2213 views | Churchman | The word ‘simulation’. It’s cheating. If a player dives, call it what it is. Cheating, conning the ref, trying to get a fellow pro sent off. Players feigning injury. Rolling about screaming. The Wednesday player did it on Monday and helped get the Barnsley player sent off. If you are truly injured you don’t scream or roll about. You’re a bit busy. Alice bands on footballers (and some cricketers). E.g. Grealish. Really? Why? What’s wrong with you? What next? Hairnets? Rollers? Kissing the badge. Just don’t. Most people if a better offer comes in and it suits are off like a shot. I don’t blame them for that, but please don’t kiss the badge. Harry Clarke and Woolfy can - they’re supporters too. Harry Redknapp. Always irritated and now it’s reach for the channel changer when one of his stupid adverts comes on. Berk. Their player crunches one of ours " get him sent off ref" Our player crunches one of theirs " get up you cheating git" It is the essence of football but you asked for irrational.

Football things you get irrationally annoyed by on 15:51 - Jun 3 by wischip | The placing of the ball at a corner kick so that its clearly past the white line and outside the area. Then the potential faffing about with the lino about moving it back, if they can be bothered. Just put the ball in the corner area. You've got to leather it at least half the width of the pitch so why does it matter so much to sneak the ball forward 10 centimetres. |
This. Seems to be the fashion these days, has only been for a few years, and although technically within the rules, gets right on my *redacted*.
Football things you get irrationally annoyed by on 18:30 - Jun 3 with 2177 views | iamatractorboy | 'Taking one for the team' with a 'good booking'. See also, rolling around on the pitch like you've been shot and then miraculously being ok 10 seconds later once the opponent has been booked, diving, and claiming for every. Single. Throw-in. Even when obvious that you got the last touch. Professional footballers who can't take a throw-in correctly, i.e. about 90% of them, yet still get away with it. | | | | Login to get fewer ads
Football things you get irrationally annoyed by on 18:38 - Jun 3 with 2169 views | MattinLondon | This isn’t just a football thing - but if for some reason someone doesn’t rate a player, someone else comes back to describe you as a ‘hater’. I didn’t particularly rate Tony Dinning but I never hated him. Just seems quite childish.
Football things you get irrationally annoyed by on 18:54 - Jun 3 with 2144 views | witchdoctor | players pulling shirts..blocking opponents at corners, free kicks etc..if it happened anywhere else on the pitch it would be a free kick…start awarding penalties at the first instance and hopefully all those shenanigans will cease…

It’s what the other 29,000 are parked on! That Champions League dirge with a bunch of mugs waving that disc in the centre circle up and down to make it ripple. Aaaargh! Players lining up and shaking hands. Why? Shake hands at the end. I prefer the FA Cup Final approach of Allan Hunter who told Malcolm McDonald in the tunnel ‘I’m going to break your ffing leg’. Quality. [Post edited 4 Jun 2023 9:25]

You’ve touched upon something which annoys me as well. A lot of posters condemn ‘modern’ players for feigning injury and diving - understandably so as it’s cheating. But then seemingly glorify in remembering old school defenders kicking and going in over the top in strikers. Odd.

Are you telling me there’s not a fair way to cripple an opponent?? A good old fashioned leg breaker, Achilles cruncher, knee wrecker, dead leg, calf raking, toe squisher? Ah, the old days. You are right, there’s a fair bit of double standards and hypocrisy, especially from me 😃
