Birmingham - Parking 09:09 - Jun 13 with 3882 viewsZx1988

Does anyone have any knowledge of good places to park in Birmingham?

I'm going to the Springsteen concert at Villa Park on Friday, and probably spending most of the day in Brum. For a major city, there seems to be pretty limited information on parking, and no sign of any sort of Park & Ride system for anyone coming from the east of the city.

Am I best advised to take the hit on the clean air charge and head for somewhere like Snow Hill? Or are there better options elsewhere? Star City looks like a good potential option, but I can't find anything online about whether there are time limits on the parking there.

I don't know if this is a good option to get to Villa Park but Lady Dollers parents live on Tixall Road, which is free to park on... and it's a couple of minutes walk to Hall Green station, which takes you right into the centre.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

I used the JustPark app a lot for parking at away matches last year. It’s a combination of car parks and peoples drives who have said you can park there. Shows you all the different places you can park on a map a bit like hotels.

Really recommend it.

I would suggest not here if you want to come back to your car in 1 piece.

Have you tried parking there though?

Springsteen, eh? Enjoy. I saw him in Cardiff last time he was there (must have been about 10 yrs ago now) and he was immense.

Sorry, can't help on parking. I always come in from the West past the Hawthorns and then street park about a mile from the ground, but that won't be any use to you.

Surely there is a shuttle bus from Gatwick to Birmingham Airport (and then all you have is the brief nine mile stroll to Villa Park, job done.)

There's a small industrial area near the ground, there are a small number of car parks under the bridges...

I don’t know if things have improved around Villa park since 1975 but some urchins wanted money to ‘look after the car’ back then. Not giving them anything turned out to be an expensive mistake.

Indeed! That's what has prompted me to give a little more thought to the parking situation, as the article makes it sound as if it's fairly endemic in the Birmingham area.

I was going to mention Star City, they have over 2000 spaces - and then get a Uber.

Plenty of NCP's in Birmingham but then you still have to get to Aston - and after you will have to get back to the city centre from Aston to get the car.

Can't you get one of those Airbnb stylee parking places?

When we played at Villa Park in the Burley era I parked at Bescot Stadium station and got a train to the station nearest to Villa Park.

It's really close to the M6 if that matters too.

Looks like the next one in on the Birmingham direction - Tame Bridge Parkway has a car park too.

Edit - last train from Aston in the right direction appears to be at 10.20 pm which I bet would be a bit early for the end of a Springsteen concert.

Thanks for the suggestion - managed to bag a CCTV-monitored driveway just outside the Clean Air Zone for £6 for the day. 20min walk into the city centre, and then a shuttle bus to/from Villa Park. Happy days!

More recently for matches we used to park at Tame Bridge Parkway station and get the train. Free parking (at least it was then) and the fare not much.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

A bloke parked up near a ground. Local kids said they'd mind his car for a tenner. Bloke said it's ok I'm leaving a rottweiler in the back. Kid asks is it any good at putting out fires?

Sorry might be a bit late but if you do get let down the B4 car park at Colmore Row is decent, the Clean Air charge only applies for petrol vehicles over about 15 years old (about 5 for diesels). No Park & Ride, big spate of mobile phone thefts at Gig's in Brum where organised gangs regularly target the big gigs with large standing areas coming out with dozens.
Welcome to Brum.

Sensible people paid them on that day. Although I had been there a few times before the 75 game and seen what those urchins did to cars of those people who refused to pay.

Star City is walkable - about 20 minutes - from VP, and relatively easy to get away from afterwards. Parking is free. Buses to city centre every 15 minutes or so. Train from New Street to Aston for the concert

I guess that many if not all of the football car parks will be open, but most are gridlocked after games / events. The closer you get to the ground the worse it becomes, prices vary considerably.

Also you can always jump on the bike scheme, I plan to use this for getting to the Ashes this weekend. Probably not for the way home, that didn’t end well last year.

Think there are a few stations near Villa Park

Definitely dont get a train to Aston. Got to Whitton.
