We have bid 3.5m for Ellis Simms and were close to getting Rak-Sakyi on loan for the season.

Nathan Broadhead was from a PL club, Harry Clarke was from a PL club, Leif Davis was from a PL club - combined fee for all 3 was around £3.5M

Ellis Simms is not worth that alone, like I said - a good player, but would need to be at a sensible price.

None of those players listed at the point we bought them had performed well in the Championship already.

Interesting player Ellis Simms.

His ability as a finisher is quality, create chances for him and he will score goals for you. He is very different to Hirst off the ball, he isn't the sort of striker who will run himself in to the ground pressing defenders like Hirst was, or at least he hasn't been previously. Wasn't one i expected us to be after for that reason, but Mckenna knows best.

As for JRS, get that deal done and we have an absolute gem for a season. I see him very quickly nailing down that rw position for himself, should the deal happen. Superb footballer.

How does that affect Burns?

When watching Everton escape relegation on the last day I did wonder if Simms might be one we'd try for. Year left on his contract and wages reported as quite low.

Fits the profile. Young and potential to sell on for multiples of what we pay.

Completely different player to Burns though. Think we'd lose a bit defensively.

£3.5M is absolutely bonkers money.

Like the player, but not at that price.

Indeed, ridiculous figure.

If he can jump to win a defensive header it'll be an improvement.

100%. Think the recruitment strategy is fairly clear. Plyers aged 20-25. Played at top academies and are already good, but have a higher ceiling. Simms certainly fits every part of that criteria.

I am sure Ashton already has them down to £1m, plus a further £1.5m when Everton win the Champions League.

If you're saying we can pick Simms up for considerably less than this (say, 2m?) then that's surely an absolute no-brainer? As others have said, if it's a similar price for both Hirst and Simms, surely you go for the latter? Or maybe both and sell Ladapo!

Whilst I appreciate at a lower level and only basing most of my opinions of simms on limited viewing & highlights reels. I would say that Hirst has more technicality about him and his finishing but is older and hasn't done it in the Championship. I would still like hirt as well though, but maybe they are too similar in profile

Wouldn't surprise me if we signed two central strikers.

Harry Clarke had had a strong start to a season with Stoke, Leif Davis had been with a promotion squad with Bournemouth and Broadhead was averaging 1 in 4 with Wigan for the opening of 22/23 season all in the Championship so I’m not sure that’s strictly true.

£2m for Simms and £2m for Hirst - sell Ladapo for £400-500k. New young forward line for just a £3.5m outlay!

Harry Clarke had been dropped by Stoke at the point he was coming to us, and by many accounts was underwhelming. Leif did not play very much, as you know by the use of squad in your comment and Broadhead had been struggling with injuries again or he wouldn't be with us now.happy to straighten that out.

That would leave us with just two forwards as Jackson is considered as a winger and Ahadme isn't in KM's immediate plans.

We need a minimum of 3 quality strikers in the squad plus another as back up. I wouldn't sell Ladapo.

Hey now, hey now, don't dream it's over

That would be great business. I'm sure Mowbray will be selling Ipswich to Ellis ahead of any other club that may be interested.
