I have mentioned before don't believe we were ever after him my view think we will go for Mark McGuinness still left footed and much improved since here last.

Very good for Wednesday for the first half of last season.

Disappointing if so. Not overly impressed with the dealings this summer. As I said before, the only players who have agreed to join us are someone we had here last season, someone who we'd been tracking and courting for months from a lower division plus two youngsters who possibly had little interest elsewhere. Now it seems like (albeit we can't be sure) we've been beaten to the punch to another player we showed interest in.

Welcome to the Championship, I guess. Perhaps I missed it less than I thought.

OK, over-dramatic pessimism done with.

I understand that, yet we had several players with Championship experience already or who were far too good for L1 and both Hirst and Taylor should be good additions for this league. We’re not a L1 team who needed to build for the Championship. We were a Championship team in waiting with a few gaps that needed to be strengthened. There’s no way this team is bottom half. All we’re waiting for is a couple of players to make us contenders for the PO spots upwards, imo.

Well if we are , quote , “down the road with a few”, then that would suggest McNally was NOT a target …

He’s right footed btw. (Was told by Rene Gilmartin the night we won promotion that he wants us to sign him).

Fair point. However, we are missing a centre back at the moment and the targets are falling one by one. Trusty was always beyond our reach, seemingly costing £5m, and hopefully that means we spent very little time pursuing him. McNally is a bit of a kick had we been interested as reported.

Hopefully we have some more irons in the fire. It'd be nice to get the target through the door before Sunderland.

Was surprised at being linked tbh as lots of Burnley sources saying a permanent move was out of the question.

I reckon we were interested in a Perm signing, not a loan. Not sure it would make much sense as a signing to be replacing Woolf/Burgess with another clubs loan player unless there was an option for us in the end.

Yeah, last year was an absolute disaster

For the record I still think we'll have a decent season, but lets not forget that it took an incredible January and best in the world run of form to get us over the line. One signing of which we chased all summer and didn't get until Jan.

Exactly.

We had an incredible run with the team we had now plus we’ve signed Taylor.

That’s some way to spin the Hirst and Taylor signings. Hirst wasn’t permanent last year so we’ve managed to get two very good players in permanently. These deals weren’t easy to get done.

People seem to be underestimating how good we were in those last fifteen or whatever games. It was a team and performances that would have done fine in the Championship, imho. Also can't overstate how important it was to get Hirst in on a permanent, notwithstanding the need for another striker...

I dont think this is as bad a post as some are making out?

I think it's fair to say we would've wanted a little bit more, given the players TWTD has reported are on the list. I imagine McKenna would probably have wanted more by now as well will all the talk of not standing still.

The good side is, there is still 1 month left of the window. Ashton has set his stall out by saying he wants 2-3 more. Lets see what we can come up with.

Agreed. We've spent the last 6 months or whatever saying how we're really going to attack this league and how ambitious the owners are etc... But we've not really shown that in the transfer market this summer so far.

There is a long way to go, but we appear to be struggling to get in the targets we want.

Disappointed if we were in and have lost out. Been completely behind the process of the club but it would seem we are finding things difficult this summer.

Transfers won’t be the only thing we find difficult to get this season

A real shame - a lot of time and energy has gone into this target, and Trusty - finding it difficult and club will be very frustrated.

Told us, Stoke and one other Champ club had all agreed terms with Burnley and down to the choice of the player

There is not a lot in this thread that I disagree with. Although, I am not concerned with our dealings this summer in the context of never wanting big changes and we are the new kids on the block at this level. Itfc need time to demonstrate we have arrived for players with a higher ceiling to choose us over those able to show progress at this level or those with high spending power (headroom on FFP).

All those saying we would spend our way out the league this season we’re dreaming.

MA, GC20, the funders wanted to see where the core squad could take us, while adding a little more quality, then begin a change up probably starting Jan 24 and then next summer as contracts expire. I’m not saying they didn’t want certain targets that have gone elsewhere, they appear to have simply baulked at valuations which would be out of kilter at this stage.

I personally think the signings have been quite exciting, targeted the right areas, and we’ve shipped out those they contributed little last season.

Considered, deliberate and sustainable.

Bit strange that. Could understand moving there on a permanent as many factors will go into that decision, but surely for a one season loan you'd want to play under McKenna who would surely improve you as a player massively.

Feel like we're massively struggling this window, not sure what is proving to be such a hard sell.

Yep, a shame, hopefully he’s made the wrong choice and will flop, Stoke usually do to be fair.

A lot of people from the outside still see us just as a ‘league one side that’s just been promoted’ unfortunately.

But if he had talks with us, and spoke to McKenna and or Ashton but chose Stoke then more fool him.
