Kieran McKenna 17:15 - Aug 17 with 6901 views | Vic | I see and hear a lot of people say how fortunate we are to have him, that he's the best in the division, etc. I'm really, really happy he's our manager but is he really, objectively better that Carrick, Schumacher, Mowbray, Robins, Maresca, and dare I say, Martin? Discuss (nicely!!) [Post edited 17 Aug 2023 17:17]

Kieran McKenna on 23:28 - Aug 17 with 1715 views | ChampionsofInnsbruck | As far as I am concerned as long as we don’t get relegated he’s got as long as he likes to get things right here.

Kieran McKenna on 17:52 - Aug 17 by GlasgowBlue | It’s not just the results or the promotion. There are several factors that convince me he’s the real deal. Very good man manager. All the players praise him highly. Even the ones he let go. He’s improved every one of the players who was already here. He is very smart tactically. Bringing on Jackson Saturday being a prime example. He’s a nice bloke but is utterly ruthless. Look at the way he replaced Ladapo and Donacien with Hirst and Clarke. He has very good pedigree. A former assistant manager at Manchester United. Open and honest at press conferences. Doesn’t look down in people who haven’t been in the game. [Post edited 17 Aug 2023 17:53]

I think this is it. At Sunderland when under the cosh, I had no doubt that once we’d weathered the storm, small adjustments would be made to get us a foothold in the game and so it proved. It’s been. Consistent hallmark in his time here. Our work off the ball is as good as it is on it and he’s preached good habits that alleviate bad mistakes. Most importantly, this has all provided confidence which you can see glowing throughout the side. Confident my pre-season prediction of a top 8 finish will come to fruition. Given how many bodies we get between the ball and shots too, I don’t see us losing an awful amount of games.

That's a fair point, you could argue that the subs against Sunderland had the opposite effect but it's quite rare that happens under KMc
Kieran McKenna on 08:01 - Aug 18 with 1517 views | BondiBlue | Impossible to say because if we finish above the teams managed by those on your list, it's going to be partly down to the players. And vice versa. I think it's pretty obvious that he's quite good.

Kieran McKenna on 17:32 - Aug 17 by Daninthecampo | You're not Pep's assistant unless you're very good, so Maresca should come good the others are good but McK is another level above them |
Not saying he won't come good - he might be excellent (and I suspect he will be). That's like signing BUT, being a very good number two doesn't neccesairly translate to being a good manager. Just ask Brian Kidd, Mike Phealen, John Carver etc. Maresca managed just four wins in eighteen games at Parma - who were heavy favouites for Serie B that season and finished 12th | | | | Login to get fewer ads

It’s a massive season for him. He’s finally got a top 2 squad to work with so if he doesn’t deliver this season his stock will rightly plummet.

Kieran McKenna on 09:19 - Aug 18 with 1417 views | CityBlue | the qualities of a manger can be measured in a number of key metrics such as: - in-game resilience - club house chemistry - player well being management - influence Just on the above four he has excelled so no complaints from me.

Kieran McKenna on 14:23 - Aug 18 with 1313 views | pafcprogs | Ok, an outside interested view. Of that list I think the stand outs are KMC and Schumacher, who interestingly arrived at their first senior jobs within a few days of each other, and Robins based on his achievement last season. Mowbray is a been there done that kind of manager...Maresca is unproven in the in charge role but his pedigree is pretty good. Carrick had a great start but has tailed off and now has to do the job that KMC and Schumacher have done and build a side to compete at the level he is at. In many ways it suits us to have KMC doing so well as it takes some pressure of us when the vacancies start to appear ( Watford must be overdue any minute) but the difference is when we get approaches that a re from clubs in and around mid to top Championship.....I think KMC pressure will start when the mid to top Premier league clubs start getting itchy feet. that reflects his pedigree of Man United /Spurs, whereas Schumacher has come up from Crewe Stevenage Bury etc So I think just on the last season Schumacher would be perceived as having done better, but if you look at immediate ceilings KMC is perceived as having a higher one. On expectations I think Schumacher has an easier ride....we just want to stay up and gradually build.... I suspect the demands on Ipswich, including from the fans, on KMC will be higher, and whilst we could go on a losing run and people would be relatively patient. I do wonder what will happen if you lose four or five on the bounce. Managers have to fit the clubs they succeed at and he undoubtedly you have a very good fit.... If the worst happened and Schumacher went I am not sure , even if he wanted to, KMC would be the best fit for a Club like Argyle....to me Robins would look a closer for in terms of background and experience and resource expectation. Martin is a strange one...I describe him as failing upwards in my Southampton preview on Pasoti. He has a playing philosophy and clubs clearly buy into that.....so far he has yet to make it stick in terms of engravers bills. Southampton will be the making or breaking of him I think....he should succeed although so far he seems to be assembling a team of former players as the current Saints throw themselves into any passing lifeboat. Much will depend on how much of the cash landing he gets to spend....so far not much it seems. He would never manage at Argyle, and I suspect your fans would rather play like KMC sets up and miss out than play like Martins teams and win everything.... Or would you? So there you have it.....naturally as an Argyle fan we are super happy with Schuey...and vice versa....but I do get the hype around your boss and so far he seems to be delivering on all fronts. I certainly expect you to be top by 5Pm Saturday. Poor old Gareth. I notice he wasn't in the list you started with :)

Kieran McKenna on 18:21 - Aug 18 with 1243 views | OldFart71 | The problem Kieran has is to become a legend like Alf Ramsey or Sir Bobby he needs to produce something that is better than those two. Because times are so much different. Many players for instance that Sir Bobby got were trade ins with a Town player going one way and a player coming from another club to Town. Deals like selling Brian Talbot to Arsenal for £350,000 and buying Thyssen and Muhren for £250,000. Getting Kevin Beattie because of a mix up somewhere between him joining Liverpool and a railway station. I think Micky Mills came via the break up of a teams youth system. Getting hold of Jimmy Robertson a superb winger for Spurs and Frank Clarke, brother of Sniffer Leeds Utd to save us from relegation. Getting Rod Belfitt who was Leeds supersub. Some of these players would be many, many millions today. Kieran hasn't as yet plucked a superstar from obscurity. But we must remember as with Sir Bobby he needs time. I feel sure one day he will manage a really big club. He has an excellent personality, speaks enormous sense for a rookie and has had a brilliant start to his managerial career.
