Interesting Tuesday morning for me... 09:43 - Nov 28 with 7033 views | _clive_baker_ | I've handed my notice in at work, just been put on immediate gardening leave. Never happened to me before, didn't expect it to now either. I'm not leaving for a competitor (I guess loosely, but not really). Emails and Slack disabled immediately. Not sure how I feel about it, although getting paid for the next 3 months to do nothing is something I can probably get used to. Bonkers.

Interesting Tuesday morning for me... on 10:53 - Nov 28 by blueasfook | My best deal was leaving a company with 6 months pay and an NDA cos they'd done stuff I could sue them for. I got paid to sod off basically. Nice! |
I think many of us would pay you to fook of Blueas!

The time will whizz by unfortunately - but do make sure you ramp up something resembling a work routine for a couple of weeks before you start your new role, or it will be tough to get back into it straight away!

Interesting Tuesday morning for me... on 11:19 - Nov 28 with 2547 views | bluelagos | 3 months off is a fck sight better than 3 months trying to keep motivated when you know you are leaving Jan and Feb is horrible weather...can you get away or are you tied to home? If you want to help out at the local food bank am sure they will appreciate any help. My worst one was when I resigned, recruited my replacement and trained them up. I then literally had nothing to do. Used to go into the office wearing footie shirts, stopped shaving and would play loud music all day (hoping for garden leave) Had a bit of a standoff...eventually negotiated an early exit after agreeing to do some work in Cameroon for a month. Then 6 weeks paid garden leave and a nice roadtrip in Africa :-) Not often you get he chance to do a proper trip...

How much is too much? Can that be extended by extending one's diet to, for example, Monster Munch? Edit: Oops, sorry, missed clive's similar question, he's obviously dynamic, switched on and a serious lateral thinker, so should easily find gainful employment quickly. [Post edited 28 Nov 2023 11:28]

Interesting Tuesday morning for me... on 10:01 - Nov 28 by hype313 | I remember getting Gardening leave for 3 months in the June heatwave of 2003, still had full use of the company car and fuel card, spent 3 months on the beach at Dunwich and ended up looking like a Turkish sailor. |
Not that I'm questioning your judgement for a second, but; you had 3 months paid leave, a free car and unlimited fuel and you only got as far as Dunwich???
Interesting Tuesday morning for me... on 12:31 - Nov 28 with 2418 views | Pendejo | Who knows what Machiavellian plans are afoot. I worked for a company that didn't want to lose an employee, so used a period of garden leave to investigate why they were leaving and terminated the employment of another (toxic IMO) individual successfully retaining the person who resigned. Either that or the "loosely competition" are about to become closer, one way or another

Getting away probably isn't a goer with 2 little ones. Had I been presented with this opportunity in my 20's I would've been off in a shot visiting a far flung corner of the world. That's a good idea, I've sent an email to Gatehouse food bank in BSE to see if they need another pair of hands over the next couple of months.

So next best thing to swanning off - some quality Dad and sprog time together. Again, not many opportunities in a busy schedule to really see them developing up close - make the most of it :-) Even if it's just a couple of afternoons a week- will give yer week some structure and defo good for the soul. (Volunteering) And remember all those jobs you didn't do in lockdown...the Mrs hasn't forgotten

If a man says he's going to put up a shelf, he'll do it... he doesn't need reminding every 6-9 months.

100%, and nothing gives me more satisfaction than seeing smiles on their little faces. A nice time of the year to take some proper time off with them. My wife is a nurse for the NHS and works some unsociable hours, so will certainly help with the practicalities of childcare / pickups / drop offs as well which I can take over. Can't promise any of those jobs are going to get done though :)

I get my DIY prowess from my Dad who took 7 years to put up a shelf. A true believer in "Why do today what you can put off til tomorrow?"
