Palace really have been the new Stoke under Pulis of the last decade type side. Simply existing in the lower mid-table range doing diddly squat.

Hodgson was the most un-inspiring appointment they could have made. Beyond boring.

Palace panicked & sacked Vieira after a poor run as the owners feared relegation. In fairness to Hodgson, he guided them back up to mid table safety. They're now on another poor run & playing unenterprising football so I reckon Hodgson is likely to go. Forest spent a shed load of money in the summer of 2022 - they did need better players if they were to have a chance of staying up. Unsurprisingly, it took a while for the team to gel & they had umpteen injuries last season. They are on a terrible run & the loss of Awoniyi is a big blow, especially after selling Johnson Jnr. The fans are still behind Cooper but he is also under massive threat. It's also December, with the transfer window beckoning.

The latest is that Cooper has been given 1 more game. A pathetic 5-0 defeat against another bottom half club is the sort of performance that gets a manager the sack. I'm sure McKenna will be high on the list of the PL's endangered species & we are now entering the sacking season. Let's hope he has the sense to see the season out at Town rather than take on a fire-fighting role, which might not suit him. I will forgive him if he takes the Man U job, however.

I don't think that's the case at all. They're just lacking a bit of quality with Johnson gone and struggling in their second season. I think you might just be building up for another rant but Forest's situation has few parallels with ours under Lambert and Hurst.

Quite an attractive proposition to be fair. Well funded, big club, not doing great this year but I don't see them in genuine danger of relegation. Potentially a very solid premier league club. I think there's only a handful of clubs we're exposed to, they're probably one of them.

Marinakis is allegedly worth £2bn, but shipping is a very asset intensive business so he might not have that much free cash to throw at Forest as well as Olympiacos. Marcus Evans was a "billionaire" as well, remember?

I think you're right. I could see him very much taking a job at Palace, although I suspect that would be a better job to take in the summer, rather than mid-season. Which might be our saving grace with a few Prem teams, if they do come sniffing.

True. Their wage bill is estimated to be about the 10th - 12th highest in the country though and they spent £100m in the summer, and a shed load the summer before. They've definitely invested to stay in the premier league.

He wont leave for anyone outside the Premier league, and I don't think he'll leave for any of the bottom 3 / 4 / 5 who are in danger of going down. Realistically the 'big 6' or even 8 won't be looking at him until he's done something at that level, so it's probably those middling PL clubs that are the biggest risk. Palace, West Ham potentially if Moyes moves on, Forest. I can see the appeal to be honest, although obviously hope he stays here a while longer yet.

I think it is quite generous to call Forest a middling PL club. They've been up there one season after just about staying up last year. They've spent a hell of a lot of money to end up with a poor squad for that level. On paper, they are the 4th worse side in that division for me. For McKenna, not sure what he could achieve there really. Is there more kudos and reputation enhancement for keeping them up or taking us up? [Post edited 7 Dec 2023 13:38]

I don't see the appeal of Palace whatsoever. They don't have our history or our ceiling IMO. West Ham would be a galling one to take. I just have a hunch he wants to really build something here and wait for United to come calling.

You can't live your life waiting for one person to call. McKenna is ambitious but I can only hope that he's level headed enough to know that while Town are upwardly mobile, it makes more sense to stay unless a really plum job comes up, which is more likely in the summer. He has less than 2 years experience as a manager & he may well be reluctant to take the big jump too soon.
