OK, I hate doing this because it seems like a next cab off the rank post, but... 19:37 - Jan 1 with 2432 views | NthQldITFC | ...does anyone else think that (given a striker emergency, and perhaps not wanting to cup tie anyone who might be off, and given Jacksons injury today) it might be worth trying Jack Taylor up front against the Wombles? Physically, he might be the closest we have to being able to play like Hirst, and I suspect he could be awkward for centre backs to handle. He's also got a decent engine on him for the side to side closing down role and would not shy out of contact. Is that just silly? [Post edited 1 Jan 2024 20:50]

OK, I hate doing this because it seems like a next cab of the rank post, but... on 19:46 - Jan 1 with 2287 views | Ryorry | In the circumstances, anything’s worth a try. We also have that youngster who came on and looked good as sub for a few minutes on Friday - just back from injury so will need building up, but might be able to help us out as season goes on.

OK, I hate doing this because it seems like a next cab of the rank post, but... on 19:52 - Jan 1 with 2217 views | MK1 | Not silly. We need our squad to be flexible. Taylor is a handful and could do a job pretty much anywhere. I would probably play a non starter X1, just to give those who have played so much over Christmas a rest. The league will obviously be our priority with the cup being used to give others a game. Our second X1 should be enough for Wimbledon.

Among other things Hirst’s movement is absolutely unreal, he’s just a very natural centre forward. He’s irreplaceable with the personnel we have currently. I wouldn’t be against Taylor playing there against Wimbledon as it’s not a game I’ll lose too much sleep over if we lose, but if we’re serious about a promotion push we need to invest this window. We needed to anyway, but we need to even more urgently now. Sooner the better too.

I’d change the entire 11 too. Agree, eague has to be our priority. [Post edited 1 Jan 2024 20:00]

OK, I hate doing this because it seems like a next cab of the rank post, but... on 20:09 - Jan 1 with 2110 views | Churchman | I would play a complete reserve team, yoofs if necessary. Our players need a break. With regard to the point you make, I’m always in favour of putting players in their proper position. Don’t disturb the pattern to fit somebody in to ‘do a job’. So no, I wouldn’t play Taylor there even if we put out a stronger side than I’m advocating. Edit: interesting question though. [Post edited 1 Jan 2024 20:09]

I wouldn’t play Taylor up front, but I think he would do OK as one of the three behind the striker. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

If I was sticking anyone up front on a temporary basis it would be Elkan Baggott but unfortunately he's off to the other side of the world!

Yes, I agree on the instinct - it's a totally different proposition playing up front I remember from my playing days (triggering and avoiding the offside trap being one of the most 'different' things about it), but I think Taylor might be able to make a decent fist of it as a stopgap. He'd be more mobile than Ladapo and more physical than Jackson. Not for a minute saying we don't need to invest immediately, one permanent one high quality loan striker for me.

Certainly in with a shout as a stop gap. Hopefully we sign someone with Hirst’s movement and footballing intelligence. His movement and running creates so much room for those around him. Hasn’t surprised me that we’ve drawn 2 blanks with him out, he brings so much more to the side than 10-15 goals a season. Such a bummer that he’s out.

Didn’t Clarke start off as a forward at Arsenal ? Maybe Chuck him up there as a reverse bam bam role
OK, I hate doing this because it seems like a next cab off the rank post, but... on 21:49 - Jan 1 with 1607 views | J2BLUE | I think we should rest the entire first 11 and a few of the key back up players. Have a proper reset for the next league game. Walton Humphreys Edmundson Youth Donacien if fit or youth Ball Youth Aluko Jackson Youth Ladapo If know people will start the usual thing about the cups but we are second, three points clear and have an owner who will back McKenna. We shouldn't be playing the key players IMO. Even Morsy should be rested IMO. Send them all off for a winter sun break.

Nothing against Buabo, but McK stated he's just back from serious injury and "serious discussions" we're had around whether he could play for 5 mins plus extra time. Good on him for getting his first senior cap, but this was more a statement about Ladapo/Jackson imho.
