Saw he was at the last Maidstone win in the cup and Elokobi had nice words and that McCarthy is still his mentor and helps him with advice etc. Some nice words.

I would hope McCarthy would get a decent welcome. It's clear he's a decent man when you hear how he helps others in the game like this.

Careful, Phil's treating open trolling very harshly this evening.

It didn’t end well for McCarthy but he did a cracking job here under god awful circumstances. He deserves nothing but credit for what he did, and totally respect the guy, but the football was shocking towards the end, But I'd applaud him.! I was desperate for him to come to Ipswich at the time.

Given that Mick rocked up at Elland Road to watch a Town team averaging a thousand shots a game and nullified us with his presence so effectively we didn't have a single shot on target, if we fail to score against sixth tier Maidstone with McCarthy present, he needs a lifetime banning order!

Joking aside, whilst I am not really a fan of Mick anymore with how it soured at the end and some of the dross he served up (on a personal level his style of play turned my eldest from someone that liked football to someone who didn't want to go most weeks and even now has a season ticket but rarely goes - which will always annoy me) but he was also responsible for the best season we'd had in a decade, the only bright spot across 14-15 seasons and clearly deserves a warm welcome back.

I don't think he's going to be sat in the dugout offering tactical support.

If not, a student of the game like McKenna will have a degree of respect for managers like McCarthy, Allardyce, Warnock and so on. Blood from a stone managers who routinely punched above their weight and often had pittance to work with.

I see them as specialists in what they do. Blood from stone managers sums it up quite nicely.

Mick have very little to work with. I respect him for getting us anywhere under the financial restraints that he was under. I will welcome him.

Punched above his weight? In 6-years he managed 10 FA Cup games and didn’t win one. We never made it passed the 3rd round under him. If he’s there tomorrow, it’ll be very ironic for him to take an interest in our FA Cup progress as a spectator when he didn’t as a manager.

He's taking an interest in Maidstone and Their manager who he is close with and mentors.

His FA cup games were even worse than his league games.

And that’s saying something.

That Lincoln away defeat was so embarrassing. Utterly outplayed by a team 3 leagues below. We didn't put up a fight.

I think that's when a lot of support went for MM

MMc is not a ‘bad man’ he got a great reception from the Wolves fans when we went there.
I may not have liked his football, but we’d have dropped into L1 a lot sooner without him here.

…relegation is never a good thing but would that have been a bad thing? It might have accelerated the sale and the demise of Evans. For all the hysteria about dropping into League 1, it worked out very well, as some suggested a reset might.

Relegation worked out well simply because we got lucky. Some very good people (at the right time) were looking to buy a club and luckily they deemed us a good fit. Fortunately, ME had the decency to sell after years of running the club into the ground.

No, getting relegated is not a panacea to re-set and sort out a club. We were lucky that we got Gamechanger , plenty of other clubs get bought out chancers and shysters. Prior to the buy out we were firmly set to drop another league rather than get promoted.

That relegation should never have happened and, let's not forget, that Mick saved us from the drop after Jewell.

Mick should get a good welcome. Deserved overall it and if we ignore 2 seasons of dire football and the haemorrhaging of the fan base.

He’s also come across really well when covering Town as a pundit.

I’d clap him on the pitch.

Out of interest what was his FA cup game record here?
