England new kit has enraged Joey Barton and the gammons… 17:56 - Mar 21 with 14740 views | ITFC_Forever | But has anyone said why the flag has been changed? Or are they creating something to moan about (ie; that it’s woke nonsense)? Personally don’t see why they’ve done it, and I won’t be buying it - not as some kind of anti-woke protest, but because at £125 or £85, it’s a massive rip-off.

England new kit has enraged Joey Barton and the gammons… on 08:34 - Mar 22 by BuffaloBill | It was an example, like removing Christmas nativity plays, an example, people laugh it off as "gammons" but reality is it's the all things that lead to subtle changes. As example some fish and chip shop not being able to incorporate a union jack in some logo outside, like changing place names because "they offend" like all the virtual signalling that happens every day, week on week. The Joey Barton's of this world hold extreme views, lots and lots of sensible people see where little things like this gesture as another shift. I couldn't care less to be honest, havent bought a replice shirt since I became an adult, but each to their own. |
As TFS says, none of these things are true. The chippy example was because: “"The advert has been painted, without any permission, in a conservation area, close to a World Heritage Site,” said a spokesperson for the Royal Borough of Greenwich. “The Council is acting according to Government planning laws, as it would with any unauthorised advert.” https://www.reuters.com/fact-check/fish-chip-shop-not-told-remove-mural-because- This gets so tiring.

IMO If we're talking national symbolism most of the change has gone the other way over the past 40-50 years ago, towards more hyper-sensitivity around people's sense of national pride, not less. Take Remembrance Sunday, for instance. Go back to the 1990s and there's no "official remembrance fixture" for the football, no poppies sewn into shirts, no expectation that everyone wear a poppy on every live TV programme or every public event, no questions directed towards those not wearing them or wearing white ones. It was a question of people quietly remembering in the manner they deemed appropriate and a discrete event on the Sunday. That's all a post-2000 invention and the sensitivities around it have dialled up not down. You could do similar for other bits of national symbolism (the England flag itself! Had next to zero presence at England games until Euro '96). I see people display national flags in their gardens now, which for much of the 20th Century would have been considered a bit of a gauche Americanisation (whose benefit are you displaying it for? Everyone who sees it already knows they're in England and most of them are English). That's before we get into people's willingness to take offence on behalf of the monarchy (who are more than capable of looking after themselves). Personally, I think countries that are at ease with themselves shouldn't need to spend quite so much time fretting over whether anyone is disrespecting their national symbols or sense of national identity. It is a sign of strength, comfort and security to just shrug it off. [Post edited 22 Mar 2024 10:31]

I have seen a preview of the next shirt as well. The three lions are being replaced with three trans people in wheelchairs. In a rainbow colour scheme. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Let’s provoke with a bespoke anti woke poke that leaves them broke. A marketing disaster or a master stroke? Time will tell. They might end up going for twenty quid in the middle at Lidl. he's a poet but didn't know it. I hate to sound like a ponce, but design wise, it's sh1t. Someone linked the GB 2012 kits yesterday - that's how you do a play on the flag - this one's just rubbish, over-detailed and too far removed.

It's a shame discussions on food banks etc don't stir the same level of passionate argument! Women screaming at each other and shouting him down when he tried to keep order really make you proud of your country.

Nothing poncey about that opinion. I’ve only just googled it and it’s just a dull looking overpriced t-shirt. I doubt they’ve got time to change it now without taking a huge financial hit….unless they’d anticipated the backlash and it’s just a massive publicity stunt. ‘Only kidding lads, here’s the one with the proper flag. This is what they waaaaant’

Bastards. It's even worse over here. Card makers are FORCED to put Nadolig Llawen on their cards instead of Happy Christmas. According to a bloke with 3 followers on twitter, it means 'boo, down with Christianity' in Arabic.

I thought the GB kits was a pretty smart design. They can get really busy when use just replicate the flag. Using all blue tones looked good imo. I agree on the Nike kit version. It does look a bit rubbish. It would be better if it actually was a proper rainbow version and they team had announced it was to promote inclusivity. At least it would have made sense then and promoted a worthy cause. As it is, it's just designer bollox.

Too many people moan about things and I know some things are beyond our control where you have no choice as to whether to pay or not. But those you have control over then you decide. If it seems like a rip off or even overpriced for what is offered then opt out.

The issue is these kind of things tend to get distilled to very binary groups, where as in reality I think the majority of people can be quite reasonable and fluid in their thinking. Objecting to the national flag being changed by a big, unethical, American organisation on our teams Football shirt doesn't feel unreasonable to me. If nothing else it's just a bit odd and unnecessary IMO. Voicing such an opinion will have some people unfairly stick a label on you though, and by association you're in a bracket. As has been alluded to already in page 1 of this thread as a good example. That isn't to say the opposite is true though, and that some of the flag sh@ggers who object to this are also valid in their views when they're jizzing over Tommy Robinson and Nigel Farage.

But I just think this is an unnecessary move by the FA and Nike, play around with training gear etc, but just stick to to the basic principles of a standard kit. Can't imagine anyone at Umbro thinking it would be a fun to give us a Yellow and Green away shirt for example. [Post edited 22 Mar 2024 12:53]
