easier to come from behind I think, so saints with momentum and more points to play for than others.

They have to play Leicester and Leeds plus 3 other games in 2.5 weeks. That workload will see them done IMO. Can see them taking points of those 2 potentially - but think they will struggle to breakdown 1/2 teams who will sit in like Cardiff etc
If you could be any of the Top 4 who would you want to be for going up purposes on 13:00 - Apr 14 with 3096 views | southnorfolkblue | That would be my ranking too....but it's unbelievably tight between the top 3 imho. I think that we still benefit from the lack of expectation compared to the others and we have been in this position before

Two of those games are verses 4th and 5th and they wasted the easiest games any team has and are in terrible form, with a hostile fan base, and the mental fatigue of a team that let a 17 point gap slip. I'd rather be Southampton than them right now.

Spectacular turnaround in form for Leeds in particular but also Leicester whilst we continue to be indifferent. You're definitely a glass half full kinda guy.

It's got to be us hasn't it? Taking nothing for granted. The away games will still be difficult if they are playing with freedom but this is a great position to be in. Let's also hope the likes of Boro and QPR make things easier.

Leicester and Leeds did not deserve to lose recent games. They've created chances but not converted. As we know from last season, in that scenario things tend to eventually give. Whereas we've looked flat for a while. Draws were probably fair results against Watford and Middlesbrough. We drifted around the hour mark at Blackburn and only switched on then versus Southampton. We didn't turn up at either Cardiff or Norwich. If we return to the performances from pre Christmas then we'll go up automatically. If not, it will be a relative struggle.

Again, that's a very pessimistic (and I'd say inaccurate) appraisal of our and others' recent matches.

Disagree with pretty much most of This - but that’s the joy of a forum Didn’t think we looked flat yesterday at all. Midds are a decent team who if they had woken up earlier are a Top 6 team Very dangerous on the break

Leicester missed one absolute sitter against Millwall and were completely freadful for the rest of the game, they woke up a little from the 88th minute onwards. They absolutely deserved to lose that game. I've not seen the Plymouth game so can't comment on that, but their supporters didn't seem to feel they were particularly hard done by.

We seem to have seriously struggled with so many games in a short space of time… if Southampton come through that lot and make top 2 then fair play

Based on xG, all three of us deserved to win our last two games. So if that carries on, chance conversion will be key (not the most revolutionary piece of analysis, I know).

The difference in the Plymouth game was finishing and a couple of saves from the Plymouth keeper. Leicester's shooting was very poor. Plymouth took their chance very well.

Knowing a draw was enough and not panicking to the degree that we had lost didn't help us get those draws? Of course two wins would have been better but, knowing what the others had done we bettered or matched their results. Do that for our last 3 matches and we are up!

I guess you are watching different matches. We also created chances, but didn't convert them, so by your logic, surely we deserved to win? We've been playing pretty well considering how tired we are looking. A two week rest will do wonders.

Considering Middlesbrough had two gilt edge chances in the second half which they should have converted... (though it would have been slightly unlucky as both were presented to them due to slips).

I know xG isn't a perfect metric, but our xG for and against versus Watford and Boro was pretty similar to the xG stats for Leeds and Leicester's last two games. For you to paint them as deserving to win and still creating chances whilst we are genuinely out of form shows a pretty significant amount of bias. We've deserved to win our last two at least as much as Leeds and Leicester deserved to win their last two.

Leeds had less shots against Blackburn than we had against Middlesbrough. Seems a bit harsh to say they are creating chances and not converting when we are creating more chances but you've called us "flat". We've certainly dropped off but the others have to an equal or worse extent. SB [Post edited 15 Apr 2024 8:30]
