KmC is not going anywhere 07:48 - May 19 with 7416 views | RIPbobby | He is very happy here. Has a young family in settled schools. There is no chance of him going in the next 5 years. He has already been fairly high at the top table at old trafford and is more than happy here. This is the team he built and he is smart enough not to want out. Yes he will get linked with every job out there, but none of them are appealing.

KmC is not going anywhere on 08:53 - May 19 by franz_tyson | You make good points until you got to the history and legacy bit. Why would Kieran want to stay because he wants to emulate Sir Bobby and Sir Alf? Surely that's more for the fans.... and not for an ambitious, young manager. Brighton are a few rungs and quite a few years ahead of us in terms of PL pedigree and might be that stepping stone needed for that big, big job. I just hope Kièran backs himself for the moment and sticks with us in the hope that we'll be the stepping stone to the big time, and not a Brighton. I guess the fear is if we have a tough time and his reputation goes from being the hottest property to being a Lambert. |
His reputation won’t suffer if we struggle as we’re not expected to survive anyway...although if he’s given a lot of money and spends it poorly then it could do. In all probability the core of his team and squad is still going to be players who two years ago were in League One with a few inexpensive but hopefully shrewd acquisitions. It will depend what tactical acumen he demonstrates next season as much as whether he keeps the team up as to whether he moves on or stays for the 25/26 season, but if we go down (or stay up) I still think he’ll be a wanted man.

KmC is not going anywhere on 09:55 - May 19 by BlueRaider | If we'd gone up two years ago we would have said that Leicester and Southampton were established premier league clubs There is no such thing outside the top 6 |
Fair enough, but to keep the Brighton machine going they've got to keep on recruiting well. And that would mean managers/ coaches, as well as players. I mean their current manager is hardly a dud.... but I guess they feel he's done as much as he can and they have to recruit someone better ( or someone who has the potential to be better). Brighton are a very clever and successful outfit and I'm sure they could put a package together which could entice Kieran..or at least make him listen. Maybe they're just a couple of players short of getting into the top six and Europe and that could be that much closer to getting that top job. Let's be honest.... we're much more likely than Brighton to be nearer the bottom of the PL. I'm hopeful he's invested with us for the moment and stays .... but I won't be surprised if he goes. If he does, then it's over to Ashton in sniffing out a replacement.

I agree he'll still be a wanted man if we get relegated..... but not as much and certainly not by the bigger clubs. Just thinking... is Kompany now such a hot property as last year?

KmC is not going anywhere on 08:45 - May 19 by RIPbobby | Are you suggesting Ashton would sack him? Very unlikely in my eyes. Surely everyone can see how happy and settled he is here? He has had his name tarnished at old trafford once, he would not go back for more. Especially the trouble most who would want a change are in. Lots of those jobs are a 5 year starter plan, but the clubs would give just 2 years to turn them around.nimpossible. He has started a project here and he won't even think of leaving before we get champions league. Once we hit there then he might start to feel there is not much more to achieve here. His work is far from done. |
Who would have suggested Sheepy would have sacked Burley? Football is brutal, no room for sentiment when things start to unravel.

KmC is not going anywhere on 09:33 - May 19 by NeedhamChris | This post will in all likelihood age terribly. We're all fans and would never swap clubs - this is a career for Kieran and he will make the decision that is best for progressing it. This is just clueless drivel based on applying 100% pro ITFC emotion to a debate, with 0% logic. His agent is clearly working hard to generate interest. I'm staying out of it mostly, not worth the stress. But I would he pleasantly surprised if he's still at PR come August. |
Altho the aspects of the level of control he has at Ipswich, the time and energy he's put into shaping the squad, the idea of a longer-term project and even the stuff about his family being settled in Suffolk are important and objective factors in McKenna's decision over whether he stays or goes and, if the latter, where. It's not just about the money or even grabbing the first good offer with both hands. There are too many people (even on here) talking as if we're guaranteed to be humiliatingly relegated next season, or at least to struggle badly. Perhaps McKenna has more faith in his own abilities, the system he's created and the players we have or are hiring. He does, after all, know the Prem very well. Taking a team from League One to establishment in the top tier is far more of an achievement than a simple meteoric rise.

KmC is not going anywhere on 09:53 - May 19 by jayessess | Whilst I do think the OP's being a bit naïve here, but I think it likelier than not that McKenna's still here in August. There's multiple reasons why which have little to do with McKenna. Firstly, Premier League clubs don't poach managers from other English league clubs very often full stop. There's not a single current incumbent PL manager who got his job in that way and no-one has done it since Autumn 2022 (Potter to Chelsea, Jones to Southampton). Before that the last one was Lampard to Chelsea in 2019. Secondly, it's big wide world out there and whilst McKenna hype is all we're thinking about in Suffolk, most clubs ultimately look to appoint managers whose achievement are commensurate with their stature. The other candidate being linked heavily to Brighton is the head coach of Nice, he's De Zerbi's former assistant at Sassuolo and just took Nice back in the Europa League. He's objectively less of a risky appointment than KM. Manchester United and Chelsea are potential landing spots for global elite coaches and haven't even sacked their current manager. Thirdly, most managers don't leave stable jobs most of the time. The kids in school thing might not be a huge factor, but at Ipswich KM has total buy-in for his methods from everyone at the club, infinite credit with the board and fans, his word is gospel. Getting those things is never a given when you move club (look at Graham Potter) and things can go sour very quickly if you don't get them. You have to think very carefully about how many rungs up the ladder makes it worthwhile to lose all that (especially when we're now in a position to be relatively competitive with other Premier League clubs on wages). Well said. This is probably the most considered and well-balanced summary I've seen in several days; congratulations, Jayess. This should be an automatically-placed response to every BS bedwetting panic post we get over the next (Jesus!) two months.

KmC is not going anywhere on 09:40 - May 19 by Ftnfwest | I must admit I just can’t see him going there at this stage. Still a lot more potential going forward here and certainly a lot more time. He might only get 6-9 months somewhere like that before poor form sees him out the door and onto the failed managers merry go round with the rest. |
The first time I spoke to him, maybe a week or two into his time here, I pointed out: "You are our second-youngest manager, between Sir Alf and Sir Bobby. They both have statues" He replied: "That's worth aiming for!" FWIW, I think he will at least stay next season. He values the stability and structure of ITFC, in clear contrast to the organisational mess at ManU and Chelski. If it goes incredibly well, he won't want to leave. If it doesn't, he may not be in such demand... | | | | Login to get fewer ads

KmC is not going anywhere on 10:01 - May 19 by TheMover | One thing that doesn't seem to have been brought up is the fact that he us currently the manager of Ipswich, not the head coach. Most of the positions he has been linked with are for a head coach. He currently has major input in to improvements throughout the club, as opposed to having players bought for him and told to coach them, a la Chelsea |
...and I think it was well reported at the time, that that 'manager' role was very important to his requirements.

KmC is not going anywhere on 09:38 - May 19 by MK1 | You really are getting ahead of yourself. This is the worrying thing. Our fans have had 2 amazing seasons against FGR, Bristol Rovers, Fleetwood, Stoke, Plymouth, Huddersfield etc. We now play Liverpool, Man City, Arsenal, Chelsea etc. A reality check is definitely needed by some. Survival this coming season is key, then take it from there. We are going to lose more games this season than we win, but have enough to survive is my prediction. I am a very optimistic person, but also a realist. Please stop with the "champions league" though. That ain't happening for a fair few years yet. |
Do you still think I am getting ahead of myself. One thing I have learnt about KM is he is a very precise and measured operator. He will have us ultra competitive in this division.

Why have you come back to this 2 months later? Seems a bit desperate for recognition. You weren’t the only one to think this.
