Media Speculation 09:58 - May 28 with 12751 viewsbluesbrothers

These people that keep pedaling the line "Ashton told us not to listen to the media etc". Are you suggesting that you think it's all been a load of b*ll*cks and that it's made up, just because he's ended up staying? I don't really understand why that's being chucked out there at people who were worried or did believe he was off elsewhere.

FWIW a source close to it at the Brighton end thought it was all wrapped up pre the interest from bigger clubs and they're v.surprised it's ended up with him not going anywhere.

Media speculation can be true, even if that same speculation doesn't end up playing out. He's now essentially said yes to two different clubs, and ended up back-tracking. I love it, but just cause he hasn't gone, doesn't mean he wasn't very close.

Clearly managers are like players when it comes to club loyalty. There aren't many lifers these days. We are just not used to them choosing to move on to bigger things instead of being sacked!

McKenna is going to move on at some point. Get used to it. I'd like it to be in 15 years after we win our eighth Champs League in a row. But it could easily be in Jan. Or next summer. The aim of the game is to enjoy his expert guidance up the football league while we can.

I think that's standard. Maybe a sailing boat from what Kieran said at the end of the season.

The fact he's almost gone twice in just 4 months isn't that great herbz. The fact he's stayed is which us what we all agree on.

He's chosen not to.. why. That's the key.
But there's no way you can say it's commitment to the club otherwise he wouldn't have almost joined either.

What it does mean however we now spend our seasons wondering if and when he talks to his next club.

Of all the things I'll be wondering next season, KMs future will be pretty low down the list.
It's part and parcel of football.
The best managers get touted for the best jobs. It's no different to any other vocation in the world.
If we have a decent season, the chances of him leaving will only increase.
This revisionist approach that he's somehow let us down or shown us disrespect serves no one.
I suggest we all just take a breath and look forward to the season ahead.
It will be a bumpy ride no doubt, so let's save our energy for that.

Distortion becomes somehow pure in its wildness.

But what does coming close mean? The closest it could have got was him being offered terms, weighing up his options, and ultimately turning them both down. If it was that close, the outcome is still that he chose to stay at Town rather than leave to join established Prem sides and yet that still isn't good enough for some of our fans. People have lost their heads.

In fairness Herbs, the Palace one in February couldn’t have been any closer. It was completely done. His staff, his wages, etc all done. Was literally only the clubs deciding on compensation and then McKenna pulled the plug. For 12 hours, he was done. As for Brighton, that was not as close but they did expect him to be through the door by the end of this week.

Seeing as you’ve mentioned it publicly, can I elaborate as to the Crystal Palace situation? Asides from a few PMs, I’ve been biting my tongue for ages about it haha..

For 12 hours in February McKenna had actually agreed to join. Everything was done and dusted other than the fee palace would give us. The rest was completely sewn up. Then late in the evening McKenna contacted Crystal Palace to say that he was doing a u-turn because he believed that ‘the project wasn’t complete’ at Ipswich. But for 12 hours he was genuinely a gonner. That’s how close it got.

He pulled the plug on it. 100% down to him.

But to suggest it wasn’t close is wrong because it couldn’t have been closer.

I never said it wasn't close, I just pointed out he ultimately decided not to leave, which is evidently correct given he's our manager still and not Palace's.
