Media Speculation 09:58 - May 28 with 12761 views | bluesbrothers | These people that keep pedaling the line "Ashton told us not to listen to the media etc". Are you suggesting that you think it's all been a load of b*ll*cks and that it's made up, just because he's ended up staying? I don't really understand why that's being chucked out there at people who were worried or did believe he was off elsewhere. FWIW a source close to it at the Brighton end thought it was all wrapped up pre the interest from bigger clubs and they're v.surprised it's ended up with him not going anywhere. Media speculation can be true, even if that same speculation doesn't end up playing out. He's now essentially said yes to two different clubs, and ended up back-tracking. I love it, but just cause he hasn't gone, doesn't mean he wasn't very close.
Media Speculation on 10:21 - May 28 with 6251 views | Marshalls_Mullet | Even Phil has said that KM came very close to joining Palace in Feb, and now in May he very nearly joined Brighton. I think its safe to say that its been more than just idle speculation. I'm pleased KM is staying, but nearly leaving twice in 4 months isn't a great look. I hope he is now 100% committed to us for the season. Existing players and potential new signings are entitled to doubt KM's commitment to the club, which is a shame. Hopefully by the time the season starts the club will again have the feeling of togetherness.

Let's be honest here. He's stayed because we've offered 100k a week. Got for him. But let's not pretend his loyal committed and all this rubbish that goes with it. He's clearly not otherwise all this wouldn't have happend. He shall continue to get support as the manager of the club I support but I don't be falling for all this guff about his loyalty and how he's remained dignified through it all.

Whether it's £100k a week, I'm not so sure, but there will clearly be a substantial payrise. However, I would guess KMc has been promised other stuff, budget, staff maybe, those sorts of things.

It's living in cloud cuckoo land if you think out of the goodness of his heart, one of the best young coaches in Europe is going to stay here on Championship money with interest from an established PL club.

Money obviously plays into it, but I'd imagine that may have earned the same at Brighton if he had pushed it. People wetting themselves because he almost left to join Palace need to understand that Ipswich is not that special a club in the scheme of things. Once you take the blue blinkers off, why wouldn't a successful manager make the jump from a potential Premier League club (which is all we were at the time with promotion far from guaranteed) to an established one? Looking back it's pretty amazing that we hung on to him, to be honest. As for recent events, I would have been surprised if he didn't want to talk to Chelsea or Man Utd, to be honest. As anybody with a bit of ambition would do. Also aside from that last two years, he has zero connection with the club, it's not like he grew up supporting us or played for us. He is not Geroge Burley So yes, I do think he has shown some loyalty but turning down the Brighton job, even if it is last minute to carry on the project here. Money comes into it, but it's not like he would have been in the poor house should he have moved on. People need to get used to this if we continue to be successful and grow. It's all part of the exciting new world we find ourselves in. Anybody who has loss respect for him really doesn't know how the real world works I am afraid.

This is an even more ridiculous take. I'd thought the new contract and end of speculation might have dried things out a bit on here but apparently not.

Didn't see him write that tbh. But if you're trying to get players to commit esp current ones then he's right. KM almost leaving twice can't help with those discussions.

It's all dry. As said all the way through I'm a town fan not a manager one and there will be many others. I'm delighted for the club he looks as if he's staying.

That is a good point, it cant help with recruiting when the manager is in flux. I couldn't see Hutchinson coming back with a change in manager.

In the summer of 1977, Everton missed out on the best boss they never had. Approached no more than four times, Bobby Robson never became Everton manager despite even accepting the job. They agreed a 10-year deal. "It was the original offer I couldn't refuse - and I didn?t, said Robson. However, after Sir John Moores made the deal public despite Robson's request not to, the then Ipswich Town boss ripped up what he descried as 'a rather large cheque' and thus, he never became Everton manager.

That is the insinuation though - that he should be committed here whatever else happens/what he is offered or alternatively he is disloyal. Can guarantee McKenna staying is going to be far more healthy for our chances of signing players this summer than him going would have been.

The bit implying he's not committed, the bit saying players will be put off by him being linked to other jobs. Players aren't fans, they know this is all part of football when you have a successful manager. No ambitious player who is thinking of joining us will turn us down because we have such a highly rated manager that big clubs are showing interest in him.

Media Speculation on 10:49 - May 28 with 5673 views | Swansea_Blue | The reason Ashton’s comments make sense is because there can only be one outcome. In this case Kieran can’t go to Man U AND Brighton AND Chelsea AND stay here. So people are wasting their time worrying about things that are not going to happen. I’d have thought that was self-evident. Aston also knows how agents use the media to pressure for things, so knows there’ll be a lot of noise that’s purely a negotiating tactic. That doesn’t mean the interest isn’t real. Of course there’ll be interest, as he’s the hottest property right now. He will be leaving at some point. I’d rather wait until it’s confirmed he’s gone before worrying about losing him.
