Getting more than a little fed up with the recent fractiousness on here. There seem to be two groups of posters some of whom's main interest in being on here is to have pops at the other. That then leads to someone reporting a post, PMing or emailing me about the other.
Not really sure what to do about it, does seem some posters have unhealthy obsession with others, which is causing the rest of us, especially me a problem. I could ban all those involved on both sides en masse, who I'm sure most other posters could name, but that seems a little draconian and no doubt none of them would feel they had any blame.
Any thoughts? A number of those regularly involved with up arrow this post and tell me I'm right to call this out, as happens every time I make a similar request for the bickering to stop.
This site is always going to be a broad church of people from different backgrounds, ages, genders and views, so not everyone is going to agree with everyone or see everything posted as in the same way and I think there needs to be a bit more tolerance.
But more than anything far less winding up and chipping away at other users, deliberate attempts at subverting other people's threads etc.

One of the bands I saw at Bearded Theory last weekend was Penetration and it was quite funny to see Pauline Murray complaining about her fear of not being able to get up again as she crouched down to snarl at the audience, true punks are even attitudinal about ageing. So a plea to Starmer:
I know this isn't a music thread (which are my probably favourite threads) but this is a tremendous song, and from recollection Chris Packham's favourite.

Don't worry GB was just defining a Ramones fan....
You’ve missed the point. The faux leftie slacktivists are people who wear a Ramones t shirt but couldnt actually name a Ramones song or tell you which one is Joey.

I don’t know how you would begin to quantify just how many squabbles are escalated by the arrow voting system.
Most disagreements have been cultivated over years and are now irrevocably ingrained.
Two distinct groups of long-term members have formed on here, based exclusively on non-football related issues.
I fully admit that I have cultivated a strong dislike for x5 posters on here, based purely, with one exception, on the tone and content of their contributions on world affairs and politics.
The other one, I’ve had the misfortune of encountering (anonymously) pre-match at a game, and they re-iterated everything I disliked about them in print form.
In the cold light of day, it’s pathetic, but when I pop in to see what’s happening, I find myself siding with those who argue and provoke that group. It’s no surprise they follow the same petty path in response.
I know a couple of the group react badly to downvotes, so it’s a satisfying weapon if you can’t be arsed to engage.
Reading this back for spelling mistakes, it’s actually even more ridiculous and futile and I only drop in occasionally to see what’s happening at Portman Rd.
Imagine being on here most of the day, and that behaviour could become almost compulsive.
I pity Phil, because it’s the familiar faces that cause him the most headaches, he’s alluded to that very clearly in his message, and it will probably get worse in the build up to the General Election.
Upshot is I’ve posted a load of old waffle whilst trying to convince two grandkids that the Champions League Final is far more exciting than TikTok.

This made me chuckle on the first Sunday morning in June.
'I know a couple of the group react badly to downvotes, so it’s a satisfying weapon if you can’t be arsed to engage.'
Says so much.

1) PM warning that they're crossing the line, and they'll get banned if it continues. 2) 3 month ban if they continue (seems about right to give you and eveyone else a break). 3) PM warning before they return that any repeat will be a permanent ban. 4) Permanent ban if they continue to offend.
Takes 2 sides to cause an argument and as you've identified there are 2 groups of posters, I'd be inclined to ban one from each side every time things get out of hand; might be an idea to not even to ban the worst offender from each "side", but just one at random - if someone has had their board privileges taken away because of what another "group member" has done, hopefully they'll start arguing amongst themselves away from here and give you (and everyone else) a break.
Anyway...your pub, your rules, so I hope you can find a solution to make your life on here a bit easier, and easier for users to not have to navigate through personal grudges in threads.

Yeah, let's go back to the 1950s for ideas on how to run schools in a manner which treats individuals fairly & doesn't stoke up resentment for the future ... not.

Are you in the S.A.S?

Why has no-one suggested "knee-capping"?

Also it is going to have to be a condition of being on the TWTD forum that we all have our cameras on and unblocked so that Phil can check that everyone is sitting with their hands on their heads for the quarter of an hour (or however long it takes for the guilty party to own up and say sorry.)
I see my earlier suggestion wasn't too popular...considering that in the OP Phil was considering the idea of banning everyone from each group that are making his life difficult, I'm surprised the idea of banning one random member from each group was considered so harsh.
Anyway, peace and love to all; I'm not going to start an argument about it on a thread asking for people to be less argumentative...

Difference between Phil and you:-
You: "not even .. ban the worst offender from each "side", but just one at random".
Phil: "everyone from each group that are making his life difficult
The difference is that your method would be indiscriminate & unfair; whereas Phil's is even-handed & justifiably targets only those who are making his life difficult.
We just all need to grow up a bit. If we step out of line get out the banhammer.
My one last comment: I know it's been acknowledged but a better ignore function would go a long, long way in solving the issue. More than happy to pay a one off fee or a subscription for it as I know it will take some work.
What would be even better is if one person ignoring someone automatically made the other person ignore them as well. That way people would know they cannot see their posts either and it might stop the odd practice of people ignoring others then checking the forum without logging in every 10 mins to see if they've been mentioned.

As I've said a few times over the years, that's what happens automatically on Twitter/X, has been the case for the 12 years I've been on that platform, & in that respect has often made it a more comfortable space for me. I mentioned it once to Gav (maybe about 4? years ago), but at that point he said it was too difficult technically.
As for the 10 pages - Phil wanted feedback & for the most part, people have been very helpfully giving it. I hope he's able to sift out & apply what's most helpful to him (which will in the long run benefit all of us if it means he's able to continue running the forum & not pack it in because the impact on his time and stress levels becomes too great).
