Board divisiveness 09:47 - May 31 with 44005 views | PhilTWTD | Getting more than a little fed up with the recent fractiousness on here. There seem to be two groups of posters some of whom's main interest in being on here is to have pops at the other. That then leads to someone reporting a post, PMing or emailing me about the other. Not really sure what to do about it, does seem some posters have unhealthy obsession with others, which is causing the rest of us, especially me a problem. I could ban all those involved on both sides en masse, who I'm sure most other posters could name, but that seems a little draconian and no doubt none of them would feel they had any blame. Any thoughts? A number of those regularly involved with up arrow this post and tell me I'm right to call this out, as happens every time I make a similar request for the bickering to stop. This site is always going to be a broad church of people from different backgrounds, ages, genders and views, so not everyone is going to agree with everyone or see everything posted as in the same way and I think there needs to be a bit more tolerance. But more than anything far less winding up and chipping away at other users, deliberate attempts at subverting other people's threads etc.

I fear that Footers has irretrievably spoilt his ballot paper this time, so that won’t work. When I was at primary school, the teacher used to pull a couple of the ringleaders out of their sniggering little pack at the back and make them sit with the cleverer kids. The ringleaders hated it, but it worked because their hangers-on lost their role models and weren’t half as gobby without the unhealthy back-up. That was the early 1970s though, and option B was to give the bad kid a good smacking in front of the whole class. Once they’d sat there snivelling for 20 mins, their hero status waned considerably. Anyway, hopefully Phil will find this thought-provoking and helpful….

A topic outlining the need to stop sniping descends into childish sniping. I'd just ban people who can't just be adults. I left this forum some years ago, and, having rejoined, find it's the same old faces causing the same old problems. I know what I would do. Hope you have a relaxing weekend. You deserve it.

He offered Phil odds of 500/1 that he wouldn’t get banned didn’t he - wonder if he took up Phil’s request for a £500 bet before getting banned 😂

Poor old Footers can't help himself at times and during Covid and after he didn't much like online me. It is noticeable though that as far as the supposed group spats go on here it seems that it is the anti snowflake, tell it how it is gang that most often resort to the abuse button and get to stay around for more....sensitive lot it would appear. Case in point my post being reported in this very thread. Time wazter whoever it was.

Board divisiveness on 22:00 - May 31 with 3362 views | Godzilla | I think its probably time for a fresh start Phil, there are quite a few younger town fans who are scraed to start to post on TWTD because of the fear of being ridiculed or belittled. This is a shame, as this site is, and will always be the best Ipswich site by a mile. Lose them Phil, and move forward to a new more positive era of supoorting Ipswich.

Thinking on this, Bluesky’s solution is the right one. Three strikes and you are out. Permanently. At the total discretion and judgement of the administrators. If those banned don’t like it, tough. The interests of the sensible majority come first. People are free to express their views, however odd they might be to others, as long as it’s within the rules of the Board. They can be challenged, but in the right way. Post as you would expect to be spoken to face to face. Basic curtesy that the majority exercise to get through life. It’s really not a hard concept to grasp but if it is too much for the minority, then maybe X/Twitter is for you.
Board divisiveness on 22:25 - May 31 with 3233 views | WicklowBlue | Late to the party as usual! I feel your pain Phil, Gav and HamsterMark. I setup a site years ago for a local sports club, I added in a forum posted the rules and warned the members to be civil. I knew all the members posting, even so it was amazing how quickly it descended into chaos and the amount of emails the site sent me about possible abuse! After I had conversations via pm and in person I just shut down the forum. Same in work most of my week is dealing with mature adults taking pot shots at one another, being a people manager is exactly the same as dealing with kids. Personally, I'd hate to get rid of uppies and downies, I know other sites have but as per Gav they are an expression of content posted. Not sure they are the problem here. The provocatuers are the issue poking and poking at old wounds and battles. I actually enjoyed previous posts from the recently released back here but it was pretty obvious within watching a few posts they were stirring. Looking at the stats Gav posted this is a hugely popular forum with great numbers there is a lot of good threads and fun posts. (Unless the shaving thread has gone to pot haven't checked in on that yet ) Lots of fun fond memories over the years and truly legendary conversations. Anyway, without peeing on Gav's chips: - In the short term ban posters who continually breach the posting etiquette. One DM warning no improvement gone. - Please leave the uppie system it's more powerful in terms of thread/poster sentiment. - As per above, posters who get X amount of downvotes over a number of threads without a campaign against, ban for X amount of time. (Day,Week, month etc) - in an ideal world up votes lead to posting status on the forum, down votes or bans rest your reputation. Abusive posters get reset down to noob level while more consistent posters move up the levels to top contributor etc. That immediately stops the "cliques" from following the posting guidelines. - As Gav shared some of the asks mentioned need investment in the software running TWTD and if I read it right an outside developer. Us posters have joked for years about a mobile app etc. Being kind have we reached the point where the software running TWTD and child sites needs a major upgrade? This is not youtube or instaface where influences make millions. However as a community TWTD is more to me than X etc, should we consider a GoFundme or similar to push TWTD into the Premier League? I'm sure amongst us are software developers who could help pro bono too. Just my two cents no offence meant to anyone. Oh also can we keep the emojis whatever happens they are much better than any other site I'm on. Unless this thread has already been delet.... [Post edited 31 May 2024 22:43]

Tbh, I find it annoying that people keep citing X/Twitter. I don’t use it much anymore, but in pre-Musk days when I did, I often found it a more comfortable platform to be on than here, because I could completely block anyone posting abuse or harassment, something you can’t do on TWTD, as Gav has noted. Finding a way technically of doing that here would solve quite a few problems, I feel, in addition to clear, firm boundaries + yellow and red card system as mentioned earlier.

Fair enough. It’s something Mrs C uses, myself very rarely. Anyway my point was about people unable to observe decent, reasonable behaviour being booted off after a few warnings. After that they can post wherever they like.

I can see the card system descending into utter chaos. A fairly innocuous yellow card picked up for a petty foul early on, followed by the Bruno Fernandez crew on here screaming blue murder and pestering Phil at 3am for the red card. I think the introduction of a no-holds barred section, as was suggested earlier in the thread, where differences can be argued out to their full conclusion, without the option of running to teacher is a cracking idea. Probably wholly unworkable, but a trial run for a week or so would iron out many of the problems between the two groups.
