Can anyone recommend some good food pubs in or around Ipswich? 11:09 - Jun 7 with 3715 views | Sarge | The likes of the Tuddenham Fountain, Waldringfield Maybush etc. Am a fan of both of the above so looking for something similar that I may not have tried before.

Not really a pub anymore is it ? And have they fixed the ceiling falling down on people ? Cherry Tree Woodbridge does good food, Swan Westerfield, Woolpack Ipswich. Butt & Oyster Pin Mill was always good, but I've not been for ages

Well not really in the sense that the Maybush is. Nor is it a ‘restaurant’ as such. The ceiling looked solid to me, though I didn’t try hurling a bread roll to test it.

I was in the Butt and Oyster recently. Good pub, good beer on gravity, great location but oh the dogs! They do have a dog free room but it was full.

You don't like dogs? You may as well say you don't like cheese.

I don't dislike dogs I just think food and dogs, or any animal really, don't mix. If there was a non food dog friendly bar then fine. As Jay Rayner put it in a restaurant review "I’m genuinely glad your dogs bring you so much love and comfort and companionship. I just don’t want one indulging in rigorous arse-end frottage against me while I’m trying to get into the asparagus."
Can anyone recommend some good food pubs in or around Ipswich? on 16:16 - Jun 7 with 3035 views | artsbossbeard | For Ipswich dining, I very much like The Arbor but don't mention this in front of Lucan who finds the place too nice & clean (probably) and would prefer peanuts from the bar at The Victoria of a match day. Oh, and the range of pie & mash options at The Spreadeagle make it well worth a visit.

Used to be a regular Thursday night thing, along with a pretty decent quiz night. I say used to be, it probably still is. Haven't been for a while.

I love the Butt & Oyster, wonderful setting next to the water especially when the weather is nice (also true of the Maybush) and a lovely walk to be had there around Pin Mill. In fact the Butt & Oyster was the first place I took my then girlfriend, now wife. Born and raised in Ireland, we met in south London, so when I thought after 6 months I should probably introduce her to my family in Suffolk, that was where we stopped for lunch. Conversion complete she's now a happy BSE dweller and even pretending to show an interest in Town.

Nice - sounds like an Ed Sheeran song. My dad took me there on my 18th birthday to buy me a first pint and the barman asked if I was ok after the last Saturday night.
