It is nice that Trump has picked a moderate and open minded running mate.
Only kidding, he is sh1tting mental. JD Vance is a top level grifter who will sell out anyone to get to where he wants. He only got this gig cause he U turned on Trump, and Trump loves people who bow down to him. I mean whoever Trump picked it was going to be horrific, but this guy is genuinely one of the worst options. His views are just grim and he is totally unfit for the role.

Absolutely. His views on rape and abortion are inhumane

It was reported on the Today programme that David Lammy had met Vance a few times.
And this is what the Standard says.
"Despite the rhetoric by senator Vance, new Foreign Secretary David Lammy is said to have had several constructive meetings with him."
I suppose at the end of the day, if Trump wins the White House, the UK will have to make the best of it and forge as good relations as are possible.

I can’t see relations between the Trump administration and the Starmer government being very good if David Lammy is still Foreign Secretary when he takes office.

DIdn't Lammy have to delete a tweet over the weekend about the Donald Trump shooting?
I see Labour have got off to a flyer. All that nastiness under the tories is truly a thing of the past eh.

He’s deleted a few. The one about the assassination attempt was an old one but in the context of the recent shooting it wasn’t a good look.
He called Donald Trump a 'woman-hating, neo-Nazi-sympathising sociopath' amongst other things. He may well be right, but he’s now FS and I can’t see how Trump will work with us whilst he’s in position.
I always thought Lammy was the weak link in the Starmer government and probably the first to lose their job as he’s pretty gaff prone. Dougie Alexander would be a much better choice.

Agree. FS is a job that requires a high degree of diplomacy. Something Lammy seems to be woefully lacking in.

There was speculation during the election campaign about whether Lammy would get the job.

I'm surprised he didn't go the way of Emily Thornberry. As well as Alexander I think Hillary Benn would be excellent in that role. Calm and very diplomatic which is the exact opposite of Lammy.

his vp called trump "america's hitler" more recently than lammy's quotes!
suggests trump's either very forgetful or pepared to overlook things if it's in his own interest. also, remember boris was very critical of trump, but went on to become close allies as fs and pm

Fair points. The test will be if an interviewer asks Lammy whether he still think the same as he did when he made the remarks. He may have more of a backbone than Johnson and Vance but I don't see it ending well for him.

Further to my last paragraph, this is from the i newspaper.
"Aides had initially suggested sending a note of sympathy, but Sir Keir decided that he wanted to speak to Trump instead in order to emphasise his sincerity, i understands.
British officials were pleased by how quickly the Trump team agreed to the suggestion once it was put to them via the British embassy, despite the chaos surrounding the presidential candidate after the shooting at his rally in Pennsylvania.
The conversation on Sunday afternoon lasted up to 10 minutes and mostly focussed on the immediate situation, but Trump also took the opportunity to congratulate Sir Keir on becoming prime minister."

Wait til he puts the phone to his ear and then crank up the volume. Give it a good rattling.

The man who said that if Labour were to win the UK election we would be “the first Islamist nuclear power.”
It’s impressive how much he gets wrong in such a short sentence. Not only won’t we become an Islamist country, it wouldn’t be the first. But that requires a knowledge of countries beyond America’s borders, which is probably challenging for him.

It's a good thing that Starmer is building that relationship with Trump already, similar when Lammy met Netanyahu the other day. Those bleating otherwise (elsewhere online, haven't seen much of it here) need to step out of sixth form politics and get with the grown up world.

Bet trump is mightily relieved that Liz Truss turned up at one of his rallies to support him. She is so deluded that she still thinks she has a massive influence in politics even after her complete failure as a P M.

Nothing worse than what Vance has said. Anyone with a shred of integrity will find it almost impossible to work with Trump and the other fascist cranks
