I'm not going to complain about it much, all in all they weren't going to please everyone. However the away tickets *ballot* concept seems totally flawed to me.

By ONLY allowing the next level down into the ballot, they're just going to gradually make the band above bigger and anyone in the lower bands further down will still never have a hope in getting to see a game.

I really don't think they've understood the feeling here - saving some tickets from 20+ point holders so they can give them to 15+ points holders sounds like almost as much of a closed shop as it was to start with.

I read it as though everyone below the 'points required' level would be entered into the ballot once it has been sold out.

At the end of the day, the people that follow the club through thick and thin (and I'm not one of them!) deserve to have priority. They've shown loyalty and dedication at great cost so they deserve to reap the rewards of our success more than anyone.

I read it as though everyone below the 'points required' level would be entered into the ballot once it has been sold out. At the end of the day, the people that follow the club through thick and thin (and I'm not one of them!) deserve to have priority. They've shown loyalty and dedication at great cost so they deserve to reap the rewards of our success more than anyone.

The club could still have some form of algorithm so that you have more chance to win in the ballot againts those with less points but then that would make a mockery of it I suppose.

As a day tripper, I'm a bit gutted that it is unlikely that I will get to take my kids to some games at Portman Road next year but hopefully the Cobbold gets done at some stage in the future and that will make things easier.

It is very hard realistically to have a situation that pleases everyone. Having followed Ipswich from afar since leaving University in the 90's and moving to Scotland I understand peoples thoughts on those that paid their hard earned cash should get some form of priority. However my son who is mad on rugby and in a rugby academy at age 16 is now madly also following Ipswich and is desperate to see them live. I would love to take him to a game and keep the passion burning but with the lack of any points from previous seasons then on reading the memebership it would seem that I pay my membership fee and his and hope that we can get some tickets. Sods law would be when he then has an important rugby match!!
I think the one thing this does prove is how desperate it is to extend the ground so that there is a percentage of seats available for "turn up on the day" which allows families to pick and choose games and allows the passion to be kindled in the next generation. The success in high attendance over the last few years has no doubt in part been down to the "pack out Portman Road" initatives along with the performance of the players.

A fair few I reckon.

I’ve never bothered previously and have accepted that I’ll only get tickets for certain away fixtures, but I think I’ll need a membership to have any chance of seeing any away games this year and even then there’s a risk that I’ll get none.

I think that this is as fair as they could make it. You’re never going to satisfy everyone but this seems to strike a reasonable balance

If you live/work in Ipswich, and have a decent social life and many friend groups, you’ll get offered tickets.

I’ve seen people in away ends of sod all people, and there will always be a random face where you think ‘how the hell has he got here’

I didn't really understand the importance of the membership scheme so when I did get to see us away, I didn't amass any points. So I will be purchasing a membership this year in the hope it trickles down to me at some point. Really want to see a few home games especially as there's no TownTV.

So I am in the 15+ band. If there are only a few tickets left when my window starts and I don’t get one, the above makes it sound like I can’t enter the ballot as it’s only for people with 5 to 14 points. Is this right?

That's how I read it too. But that's the point isn't it? A chance for people who had no chance at the expense of people who did have a chance.

Absolutely, I have no problem whatsoever with folk from lower bands joining me in a ballot.

But people from the window in which the game sells out should defo be allowed in the ballot along with the lower points windows people. It feels like they’re saying, bad luck for not getting one of the 3 or 4 tickets left for your window. We’re now giving people below you a better chance of getting one than we gave you. Not really a fair crack of the whip in my opinion.

Different matter if people in the highest bands don’t buy one, they’ve had longer to get one if they wanted one and should be excluded from the ballot.

Don’t think this will affect me personally, but it just seems the only unfair aspect of what is generally a decent system

Exactly. People have to remember there is the season ticket resale option this year. I'm an ST holder but approx 5 games in a season due to other commitments Ive advertised on here before but will put up on the ticket sale site now that we have that option.

I am not sure its a 'better chance'.

It's probably only going to be around 10% of tickets, so 300 tickets for most games.

Plucking a figure out of the air, I would imagine there is going to be thousands of people applying for the ballot. Only a very small portion of ballot applicants are going to get tickets.

Surprised no-one has suggested that the ballot is run a little like a raffle, one entry per point. Obviously gives people with more points better chance but people with fewer points are still in the hat with a chance.

It potentially could be in extreme cases. Hypothetically if theres 500 fans on 15-19 points it gets to 15+ stage with only 5 tickets left then those 500 fans basically have no chance of getting a ticket. +15 can’t enter the ballot for some 300 tickets but the people with less points can? It would make sense to include the last priority window in the ballot so everyone at least has an equal chance.

Don't disagree re your last point. But people need to remember that last season only two games didn't get down to 15+ (with smaller allocations generally). As usual, there is a fair overestimation of the number of people that are sitting at 20+ points.
