No other than the right back cover he's right we do need at least 4-5 more in. It doesn't mean replacing the whole team as we will have the core of the team from last season. We need a much stronger squad and new players can be phased in. Omari is one of the 5 we have brought in so straight away it's only 4 new players signed. We've lost 8 players already and 3-4 more minimum will be sold or loaned. 5 would still see us down Vs outgoings. | |

We use 2 players in each of the front 4 positions in every game. To legislate for cover and a couple of injuries, we need 10 players across those positions. Currently we have:
Burns
Chaplin
Hirst
Delap
Omari
Broadhead (injured and from what I heard could be out for a while)
Harness
Ladapo and Al-Hamadi will go out on loan I expect. So we have 7 options. One of which may be out injured for a while. You could argue Taylor is seen as a 10 which gives another option. But we are easily going to see another 2/3 signings across the front 4.
Then on top of that we need 2 x CMs - one nailed on starter and one squad option, especially if Taylor is seen as more of a 10.
We need one more defender, mainly to cover left back. That is assuming nobody else leaves, if so they will need replacing.
Goalkeeper - all depends whether Walton stays or goes.
So we are looking at minimum 5, probably more like 6/7 once all our business outwards is done. [Post edited 22 Jul 2024 7:51]

Think loan players can only be recalled during a transfer window these days, so we will need a keeper. If we're still in this position at the start of the season then we've failed Slicker a bit as he really should be getting regular football for his development |  | | |

IMO, we need the following;
GK
Centre mid - clearly targeting at least 1 given we worked hard to get Downes
Winger - clearly targeting there also given we missed out on Philogene
Striker
You could also argue we need another option across the back 4 (mainly left back cover).
That's before you look at players who didn't play much last season and have their contracts running out in 12 months - Walton, Edmundson, Ladapo & Harness spring to mind.
You can then also make the case that there could also be loan moves for Slicker, Al-Hamadi, Baggott & Humphries.

"Need" is 2 IMO, a central midfielder to partner Morsy and a top left sided attacking player (Philogene clearly would've been that). Particularly important with Broadhead injured.
Want is probably 3 or 4 more, being another #9, some cover for Davis, potentially a 2nd central player, and some movement in the keeper area, but that's not a need right now while we still have Walton and Slicker around.
If we land those 2 "needs" and bring in good quality there then I think we're in a good spot. |  | | |

The reality is that, of the 28 players that made up the first team squad at the end of last season, 5 went back to their clubs, 3 have been released on a free (with another expected to as well, and one has retired. So that would be 10 signings just to stand still on numbers (or 7-9 if we assume a slightly smaller squad).
That is before you consider whether any Walton, Slicker, Edmundson, Humph, Harness or Al-Hamadi will leave either on loan or permanently.
With 9 players on the bench that gives a match day squad size of 20 (plus any travelling reserves). Some of the squad fillers will probably come in towards the end of the summer but I could certainly see us making another 6 or 7 signings this summer. | | | |
