Sell ons are usually only % of profit? So if Sunderland bought him for £10m and sold him for £18m, the sell on would be 40% * £8m = £3.2m.

A likely link but considering we’re after Szmodics who can play left 10 is this likely? Gonna say nothing in this one but like the player. Although the Journo seems experienced…. Could be …. For Spurs presumably so Sunderland would make 60% of 18m, which is still a profit on 10m (if he was bought for that) all be it a small one. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Depends what they set it up as. Most are of course % on profit Some can still be % of any agreed fee But then anyway. Not sure having looked around what did sunderland actually pay to begin wiht. [Post edited 23 Jul 2024 18:26]

The story i read was that Tottenham paid £10m for him when they bought him from Leeds. Sunderland paid less than £1m (if the story is to be believed) with a huge 40% sell on clause, which does make sense. So hopefully finances wont scupper any deal for Towen

ITFC to offer 18m for Jack Clarke on 18:50 - Jul 23 with 6569 views | The_Romford_Blue | Edit - Ignore that. Just been told we in fact are after him. We did enquire earlier in the summer but have asked again. Not confident it’ll definitely be happen but 18m is the figure mentioned. They have a 25% sell on fee which is something that makes them want more dosh than ideal (unsurprisingly). [Post edited 23 Jul 2024 18:54]

Seems to be a bit of posturing right now. Maybe we're trying to make Blackburn think we're moving on from Szmodics?

I see Szmodics more as an upgrade on Harness, and Clarke would be the replacement for Jez, so not an either-or situation. Much like Delap could be seen as the upgrade on Jackson meaning we would still be after a replacement for Moore up top. Would love to see Jack Clarke sign for us, uuuuurrrrhhhhhhhhh *dribble*

Sure, Sunderland won't want to make a loss. But there is zero evidence that they paid £10m for him plus a 40% sell-on fee. It really does appear that you've just made that up. Yes, FLW are saying 40% sell on fee (first URL below), but then a Sunderland linked news website (second URL below) is saying 25%. That website is written by Sunderland fans who are journalists. Doesn't mean they have any inside track, but if there were credible rumours that Sunderland paid £10m, surely they would be likely to know about that. As indicated by others, there is ordinarily a significant difference between a sell-on percentage of a total fee and a sell-on percentage of profit. But in this case, the two could be extremely similar numbers, because the fee paid by Sunderland may well have been very small. Clarke was running down his contract, and it may well be that Spurs took a hefty sell on clause as second prize when it became clear nobody would pay a big old fee like they did. Spurs paid £10m. The second URL below says that Sunderland only paid £750,000 for him. Frankly, the 40% may be speculation, the 25% may be speculation, and the £750,000 may be speculation. But we don't have anything better, as far as I can see. Where did you get the idea that Sunderland paid £10m? I have seen no such figure anywhere. onefootball says 5.2m euros, which could be made up, or it could be assigning a book value to the sell-on fee. transfermarkt have a question mark, but they have his market value as having declined over that period. One opinion, sure, but I don't see any evidence that anyone is saying that Sunderland paid as much as Spurs paid. I think he'd be a great signing to be honest. There's bound to be competition for him, and he's bound to command a fairly hefty fee, but not one that's governed by Sunderland's need to recoup more than £10m having factored in a 40% sell on fee. https://footballleagueworld.co.uk/ipswich-town-lining-up-big-money-transfer-move https://www.sunderlandafc.news/transfers/the-huge-sell-on-clause-that-spurs-incl

They did pay £750k for him. That's why Spurs added the 40% sell-on fee to guard themselves if he shines. If we paid £18-£20m, that's still £12m of pure profit for Sunderland to work with mind.

The correct figure is definitely 25% sell on fee to spurs after Sunderland paid 750k

If it's as low as 25%, that means Sunderland would get £15m to work with if we got Clarke for circa £20m. That'll get their sporting director's juices flowing for some South American hidden gems that'll never adapt to Sunderland or the Championship.

Would prefer Sarimento or Smodzic, especially if we are looking at £18 million.
