I fear Phil is plucking out a word out of his thesaurus as we speak.

It's poppycock!

Then gave it Barry big licks to the North Stand, I think.

He did, seems a bit of a tw*t but he's young and maybe the right kind of arrogance hopefully.

Is he a luongo type? I'm not sure.

I think that's where he would be most likely to feature for us, if he does indeed join.

Definitely got the potential to be I think, and as everyone has said fits the profile to a tee. Also notable that KM seems to generally like to work with young or more mature players, which is interesting to me in terms of squad building as to a degree you'd hope the younger players have less of an ego and the more senior players have grown up a bit. Making them easier to mould into a cohesive unit.

He's firmly a #6 or #8. An area we definitely need to upgrade, and someone with age on their side would make a lot of sense to take the baton off Luongo.

Is he good enough to help keep a PL team up do you think, at this point in his career?

His shooting numbers are impressive for a midfielder and he looks to have good physicality, especially considering his age. His passing and dribbling stats are average/poor though and in a much weaker division, even if we account for tactics and worse players around him. Downes and Sheaf were playing at a different level to this guy last season.

A lot more upside (in terms of future sell on) and a higher ceiling than Sheaf though. Agree with Jake above, would want a more experienced option to come in alongside him but James would be a cracking signing fitting our recruitment strategy.

I haven't seen loads of him to be honest, I was at both of our games against Brum last season, he looked particularly good at St Andrews. It was only after he went off that they went to sh1t really. Only saw them a few other times though, I don't really like watching Birmingham for some reason. He's certainly got something about him though and they rate him really highly.

Wales aren't a great side admittedly, but to have established himself in their side and be starting big Euros qualifier play offs etc in centre mid is quite an achievement at 19, and to have been a regular in the Championship since 17 / 18. Downes and Sheaf have 5+ years on James so that's a bit of an unfair comparison I think.

Certainly one I would be happy to see come in.

Fits our recruitment profile.

Not sure it does precisely think that is 21-24. Good signing and another that wouldn’t count towards the 25.

The thing to remember is we look at a player and see they fit in. KMc looks at players and sees the future potential, sees what they will become.

For example someone mentions lack of assists , I’m sure KMc knows how to develop that side of the lads game.

Yep, seemed to be quite a common thing last season. I always commented as soon as that happened that it was now going to be game over for them, and it always was!

Before we get the Phil 'nothing in it' stamp of death, if our interest is legit this further cements that we are going for young talented players above the need for Prem experience to date.

I can see the reasoning. A PL 'ready' player may cost stupid wages, may not be easily tempted to a relegation favourite (according to bookies) and may not want to stick around should our stay last one season.

To an outsider it may look like we are 'doing a Luton' even if we are spending more money (on better players)

I'm not sure assists are overly important in our system. The main aims are to be winning the ball back, comfortable in possession and giving it to the attacking midfielders for the magic to happen.

Pretty much everything that Morsy does perfectly for us!

A lack of assists doesn't necessarily mean a lack of creativity.

It could just be that playing in a sh1t team, no one was finishing the chances, or they weren't getting in the right positions.

95 championship matches at the age of 20 says a lot.

No assists last season according to whoscored. Not a bad scoring record in a struggling team.

No assists? Same as Luongo then.

I would say Morsy has been a more complete midfielder during his time here. Brilliant at the defensive work, protecting possession and offloading it to more creative players, but also at driving the ball forwards, making key passes, assists, and of course his eye for goal.

The excitement for this rumour is good enough for me, but I hope our interest in him is as a player to develop like Taylor, rather than as the clear starter I think we also need.

We absolutely do need a guy who really knows the Prem and can start most or all games.
